Top attractions include the Asia Culture Center, Yangnim-dong, Penguin Village, 1913 Songjeong Station Market, and Mudeungsan. Gwangju is a city where you can experience art, modern history, and local food all together.
Gwangju is known for Korean set meals, tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties), sangchu twigim (fried wraps served in lettuce), duck soup, and Songjeong-ri tteokgalbi. With its many traditional markets and long-established local eateries, the city is a great destination for a food-focused trip.
Popular side trips include Juknokwon Bamboo Garden and the Metasequoia Road in Damyang, the Hwasun Dolmen Site, and Naju Innovation City with the Yeongsan River area. Gwangju also makes a convenient base for exploring inland Jeollanam-do.
