Jeonju, the City of Tradition and Flavor
Jeonju is a historic city known as the birthplace of the Joseon Dynasty and one of Korea’s leading culinary destinations, designated a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. What makes it special is that tradition here is not frozen in the past, but still part of everyday life.
Places You Shouldn’t Miss
Jeonju Hanok Village, home to around 700 traditional tiled-roof houses, is a living village where residents still go about their daily lives. As the hometown of bibimbap, Jeonju is also the best place to try a beautifully prepared bowl of Jeonju Bibimbap. Completed in 1914, Jeondong Cathedral is also well worth a visit for its striking architecture and historical significance.
Travel Tips
Jeonju Station is about 1 hour and 50 minutes from Seoul Station by KTX. It’s an ideal destination for a relaxed 1–2 day stay centered around Hanok Village, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy traditional experiences and local food.
