Geumseong-dong’s living area in a basin formed at an elevation of 400 m

Geumjeongsanseong Village Food Street is located in Geumseong-dong, Geumjeong-gu, Busan Metropolitan City, in a basin at an elevation of 400 m on Geumjeongsan Mountain. The ridges of Geumjeongsan, rising 500–600 m above sea level, surround the village, creating a mountain-village landscape unlike the flat commercial districts of central Busan.

Geumseong-dong covers 7.45㎢ and has a population of approximately 1,300. Its administrative area consists of three administrative units and ten neighborhood sections. The village has the Geumseong-dong Community Service Center and Geumseong Elementary School, and functions as a local tourism area with about 150 restaurants serving mainly regional specialties.

Specialized Food Culture Improvement Street designated in 2011 and signature dishes

Geumjeongsanseong Food Street has been designated as a Specialized Food Culture Improvement Street by the Ministry of Health and Welfare since 2011. There is no admission fee for the food street itself, but menus and prices vary by restaurant, so visitors who arrive without choosing a specific restaurant should allow time to decide.

Black goat bulgogi, introduced as a food designated by Busan Metropolitan City, has a 30-year tradition. Duck and acorn jelly are also signature foods here. Rather than expecting an ordinary Busan restaurant district based only on the menu names, it is better to plan this as a destination for tasting the regional specialties of the mountain village.

Geumjeongsanseong Makgeolli made using a 500-year-old nuruk method

Geumjeongsanseong Makgeolli is introduced as a local liquor made using a nuruk production method passed down for 500 years. The brewery uses the climate and clear water of the foothills of Geumjeongsan at an elevation of 400 m, and makes makgeolli using hand-kneaded nuruk.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs designated Geumjeongsanseong Makgeolli as Food Master No. 49. The brewery address is 453 Sanseong-ro, Geumjeong-gu, Busan (Geumseong-dong), and the main telephone number is 051-517-0202. This address is the location of the makgeolli brewery, not a shared address for the entire food street.

Route from Busan Station to the mountain-village area via Exit 3 of Oncheonjang Station

From Busan Station, take Busan Subway Line 1 and get off at Oncheonjang Station, then leave through Exit 3. The officially recommended route is to take express bus 203 near SK Hub Sky across the pedestrian overpass and get off in front of the Geumseong-dong Community Service Center.

At Hwamyeong Station, leave through Exit 6, take village bus 1, and get off in front of the Geumseong-dong Community Service Center. From the direction of Gupo Station, the recommended route is to take city bus 15 or 59 to Gupo Market, then transfer to village bus 1. The latest service intervals for bus 203 and village bus 1 could not be confirmed through official guidance, so if you have a reservation at a mountain restaurant, it is safer to allow extra time for transfers.

General operating hours for the food street and possible gaps on site

Common operating hours and closing days for the entire Geumjeongsanseong Food Street could not be officially confirmed. Therefore, do not plan on the assumption that every shop will be open at any given time. If you have a particular restaurant in mind, you should contact that restaurant separately to ask whether it is open and to confirm menu prices.

A shared main telephone number, public parking location, and parking fees for the food street itself could not be confirmed. Common information regarding wheelchair and stroller accessibility, photography restrictions, cash-only payment, English guidance, audio guides, waiting times by restaurant, and reservation availability was also unavailable. Given the location in a mountain village at an elevation of 400 m, visitors using mobility aids should check each restaurant’s entrance and the presence of slopes in advance.

Makgeolli-making experiences require reservations two weeks in advance

As of 2026, reservations for the Geumjeongsanseong Makgeolli experience generally must be made two weeks in advance. Operating hours are 10:00–15:00 from Monday through Friday. The program requires at least five participants on weekdays and at least ten participants on public holidays and weekends. Lunch is not provided.

Nuruk stepping takes about 40 minutes and costs KRW 10,000 per person. Makgeolli brewing takes about 20 minutes and costs KRW 20,000 per person, while filtering makgeolli takes about 20 minutes and costs KRW 15,000 per person. Combining brewing and filtering takes about 40 minutes and costs KRW 35,000 per person. Completing nuruk stepping, brewing, and filtering takes about 1 hour 30 minutes and costs KRW 45,000 per person. For inquiries, call 051-583-0222. The location is 453 Sanseong-ro (Geumseong-dong).

Adding the cultural experience village at 42 Jukjeon 2-gil

Geumjeongsanseong Cultural Experience Village is located at 42 Jukjeon 2-gil (Geumseong-dong) and offers programs such as pottery making, natural dyeing, and farm crop experiences. The main telephone number is 051-513-6848. Experience fees are provided separately, so they should not be assumed to be the same as the makgeolli experience fees.

The experience fee at Sanseong Ceramics is listed as KRW 20,000 for individuals and KRW 15,000 for groups as of 2026. If you combine a meal at the food street with a separate experience, note that the locations are divided between 453 Sanseong-ro and 42 Jukjeon 2-gil; these activities do not take place consecutively in the same building.

Nearby options to check after a meal

Geumjeongsanseong Village is not a single facility consisting only of restaurants; it is a village within the residential area of Geumseong-dong, with about 150 restaurants distributed throughout it. The nature-oriented programs at Geumjeongsanseong Cultural Experience Village and the Geumjeongsanseong Makgeolli brewery experience can be combined with a meal, but the reservation requirements and locations for each program differ.

Kim’s Art Field Museum was established on April 1, 2006, and admission to Exhibition Halls 1 and 2 is listed as free. A generally recommended length of stay for the food street could not be officially confirmed. Even the makgeolli experience alone can take from about 20 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes depending on the program, so leave separate time for bus transfers when scheduling a meal and an experience on the same day.
