Best Time to Visit

Yangnim-dong Historic and Cultural Village is best visited in spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November). The weather is comfortable for walking, making it ideal for exploring the alleys and modern cultural heritage sites at a relaxed pace.

Within the day, a visit between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM or 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM is recommended. It is less hot than midday, easier to move around, and generally less crowded.

The nearest station is Namgwangju Station on Gwangju Subway Line 1. It is about a 12-minute walk from Namgwangju Station. After exiting the station, head toward Yangnim-dong.

After getting off at Namgwangju Station or the Jeonnam National University Hospital / Namgwangju Market stop, follow the signs to Yangnim-dong Historic and Cultural Village. Since there are many alleys in the village, comfortable shoes are recommended.

• Holly tree hill photo zone: This is an official photo spot near the site of Missionary Woo Il-seon's residence within Yangnim-dong Historic and Cultural Village. Stand in front of the photo zone and take a shot so that the hill and surrounding buildings appear together. From late morning to early afternoon, the light is soft and good for portraits.
• In front of Missionary Woo Il-seon's residence: If you shoot from the front yard or entrance path where the building can be seen at a glance, you can capture the atmosphere of modern architecture well. Standing slightly at an angle toward the front of the building adds depth. Morning is the best time for clean shots.
• Around the Owen Memorial Hall: It is connected to the walking route through Yangnim-dong Historic and Cultural Village, so it is easy to visit together. The night of Yangnim-dong Historic and Cultural Village is characterized by a quiet and atmospheric mood. Lights added around early 20th-century Western-style buildings such as Yangnim Church and the Owen Memorial Hall, as well as traditional houses like Lee Jang-woo House and Choi Seunghyo House, create a different charm from the daytime.

In particular, the observation tower offers a panoramic view of the village nightscape, and the lights running along the trees softly illuminate the walking paths, making it good for photography. The art pieces along the cultural street can also be enjoyed at night, making this a suitable course for a light evening stroll.

The recommended time is after 6:00 PM until around 8:30 PM. Right after sunset has the best atmosphere, and early evening is more comfortable than very late hours.

A representative modern cultural heritage site is a building known as the oldest existing Western-style house in Gwangju. It is believed to have been built in 1910, and the story goes that it was rebuilt after a fire in 1920.
