Seodong Miro Market began with three markets—Seodong Traditional Alley Market, Seodong Local Market, and Seodong Market—that formed as displaced residents forcibly relocated to Seodong, Geumjeong-gu, in the late 1960s gathered to live there. The three markets stretched for approximately 1.5 km from Seodong Samgeori to Seodong Gogae, with alleys connected to one another, and the complex layout of these paths led to today’s name, ‘Miro Market.’

Geumjeong-gu integrated these three markets, and in 2014 they were selected as a Culture and Tourism–oriented Market. ‘Miro’ combines the meaning of a maze (MAZE) with that of a beautiful road (美路). According to current official information, the market covers approximately 20,000㎡ of land, has about 13,000㎡ of operating floor space, and contains 391 stores.

Ten minutes from Seodong Station Exit 1: How to enter the heart of the market

By public transportation, the official guidance says it takes approximately 10 minutes on foot from Exit 1 of Seodong Station on Busan Metro Line 4 to the market. The market area is around Seodong-ro 141beon-gil, Geumjeong-gu, Busan Metropolitan City. Rather than heading toward just one main gate, it is best to walk along Seodong Market-gil and through the inner alleys as well.

Buses 42, 99, and Dongnae-gu 1 stop at the rear entrance of Sewoong Hospital; buses 148, 155, and 179 stop at Seo 3 Public Security Center; and buses 29, 183, and 189 stop at the Seo 1-dong Saemaeul Credit Cooperative. Village buses Geumjeong-gu 6 and Geumjeong-gu 6-1 pass Seodong Market Bus Stop and connect with the Oncheonjang Station area.

The 145-space public parking lot at Seo 3-dong 190-9 and navigating the narrow alleys

For visitors arriving by car, it is practical to set Seodong Miro Market Public Parking Lot at Seo 3-dong 190-9 as the primary destination. This parking lot was established on June 10, 2020, and is officially listed as having 145 spaces across an area of 3,679㎡. Because the market alleys are shared by pedestrians and shop delivery traffic, visitors should park at the public parking lot and walk rather than driving into the alleys.

Additional public parking lots nearby include Seo 1-dong Second Public Parking Lot with 87 spaces, Seo 1-dong Third Public Parking Lot with 80 spaces, Seo 1-dong Fourth Public Parking Lot with 61 spaces, and Seo 2-dong Public Parking Lot with 80 spaces. Since parking fees are not listed on the official tourism page, it is safest to check the on-site fee table before exiting.

Seodong’s everyday foods, read through egg dumplings, pickled cabbage, handmade sundae, and kalguksu

The best-known specialty product among the market’s offerings is egg dumplings. Geumjeong-gu introduces them as a signature snack with a 40-year tradition shared with Seodong Market. Unlike ordinary dumplings, they are an egg-based dish filled with glass noodles. Visit Busan introduced the egg dumplings at Matna Bunsik inside the market at 1,500 won per serving, but because this price was accurate only at the time of posting, visitors should check the menu again before ordering.

Pickled cabbage is also introduced as a market specialty that has continued for more than 40 years. The explanation that it began in a residential environment where there was not enough space to pickle cabbage during kimchi-making season shows that the market was not merely a place of commerce, but also the foundation of daily life for Seodong residents. Geumjeong-gu describes handmade sundae as food prepared directly every morning and kalguksu as a specialty menu item that has continued for 25 years.

From Seodong Art Creation Space in 2012 to Sky Garden in 2015

Seodong Miro Market is not simply a market made up of restaurants and daily necessities stores. Seodong Art Creation Space opened on June 28, 2012, and was built with a total floor area of 529.6㎡, comprising two above-ground floors and one basement floor. It includes a multipurpose room, exhibition room, studios, lecture rooms, a small library, a rooftop rest area, and an outdoor performance venue, providing a base for market cultural events and the Merchants’ Culture Academy.

On the rooftop of Seodong Art Creation Space is Sky Garden, which opened on October 13, 2015, with a total area of 50 pyeong. In October of the same year, a Secret Garden was created inside the market, and Seotgol Cultural Arts Village opened on April 15, 2015. Since operating programs and opening hours for the cultural facilities are not confirmed as permanently fixed information, visitors planning to tour them should first contact the Geumjeong-gu Culture and Tourism Division at 051-519-4085.
