A 1,000-Year Irrigation Landscape at Jecheon Uirimji and Jerim
Uirimji is an ancient irrigation facility dating back to the Samhan period. Together with Jerim, the forest along its embankment, Yeonghojeong Pavilion, and Gyeonghoru Pavilion, it creates a picturesque lakeside landscape. It can be reached by bus from Jecheon Station or Jecheon Bus Terminal, and visitors can explore the lakeshore and walking trails free of charge.

Uirimji Reservoir, now designated Jecheon’s No. 1 Scenic View among the Ten Scenic Views of Jecheon
Uirimji is a reservoir introduced as Jecheon’s No. 1 Scenic View among the Ten Scenic Views of Jecheon, Chungcheongbuk-do. The official designation as National Heritage Scenic Site No. 20 applies to ‘Uirimji Reservoir and Jerim Forest in Jecheon’; the designation date was December 4, 2006, and the designated area is 211,038㎡ (71 parcels).
This is not merely a park where visitors look at water, but a historic scenic site featuring Jerim Forest along the embankment, lakeside pavilions and towers, boardwalks, fountains, and an artificial waterfall. The official tourism address is 33 Uirimji-ro, Jecheon-si, Chungcheongbuk-do, while the lot number address provided by the user is 241 Mosan-dong, Jecheon-si, Chungcheongbuk-do.
An Agricultural Reservoir Recorded in the Samguk Sagi and Joseon-era Maps
Uirimji is recorded as one of Korea’s representative ancient hydraulic facilities, together with Byeokgolje in Gimje and Susanje in Miryang. Its name appears in the Samguk Sagi, Goryeosa, Sejongsillok, and Sinjeung Dongguk Yeoji Seungnam, and it is also marked on Joseon-era maps such as the Yeojidoseo, Jecheon Hyeonjido, Cheonggudo, and Daedong Yeojido, showing the history of water management that has continued to the present.
Uirimji is introduced as a place that continued serving as a reservoir until recently. The cross-section of the embankment exposed during a typhoon in 1972 became evidence for examining ancient construction techniques. The method of building the embankment by placing organic material between layers of soil explains that the present embankment at Uirimji originated as agricultural infrastructure rather than merely a walking path.
A Walking Route Shaped by a 1.8 km Lakeside Trail and 200-Year-Old Pine Trees
The circumference of Uirimji’s lakeside is listed as 1.8 km, while an article by the Korea Tourism Organization introduces the surrounding walking trail as approximately 2 km. Based on visitor reviews, walking around the lake takes about 20–30 minutes, but allowing more time is advisable if you plan to take photographs and visit the pavilions and waterfall.
Jerim Forest on the embankment is the woodland protecting Uirimji, with pine and willow trees forming its core. An article by the Korea Tourism Organization introduces 200-year-old pine and willow trees, while the official National Heritage description also mentions fir, ginkgo, and cherry trees, so the impression of the forest varies by season.
How to Find Yeonghojeong Pavilion from 1807 and Gyeonghoru Pavilion from 1948
Yeonghojeong Pavilion and Gyeonghoru Pavilion stand beside the lake. Yeonghojeong was built in 1807, the seventh year of King Sunjo’s reign in the Joseon period, while Gyeonghoru was constructed in 1948. As pavilions from different eras, the two buildings show that Uirimji was not limited to being a relic of a single period but remained a place in continuous use.
Ureukjeong Pavilion and Ureuksaem Spring are also listed as available facilities during a walk. Yongchupokpo Falls is introduced as a 30 m-high natural waterfall, and artificial waterfalls and fountains around the lake can also be seen. Although Uirimji itself is open year-round, Yongchupokpo Falls and the fountains are closed every Monday, so visitors should not plan a Monday itinerary centered on water-play facilities.
15 Stops from Jecheon Station and 9 Stops from the Bus Terminal
If arriving by train, take bus numbers 31, 35, 523, 531, or 541 from the Jecheon Station stop and travel 15 stops, or approximately 19 minutes, before getting off at the Uirimji stop. The walk from the bus stop to Uirimji is listed as five minutes. Do not depart based only on the bus number; confirm at the Jecheon Station stop that the vehicle is headed toward Uirimji.
If arriving by intercity bus, you can take bus numbers 31, 3-1, 3-2, 35, 523, 531, or 541 from the stop in front of the Jecheon Bus Terminal. Travel nine stops, or approximately 12 minutes, get off at the Uirimji stop, and walk for five minutes. By car, directions indicate traveling from the Jecheon IC of the Jungang Expressway toward downtown Jecheon and then turning left toward Uirimji.
No Admission Fee, but the Museum Charges Separately
Uirimji itself is listed as having no admission fee. The Uirimji parking lot is available, and parking is introduced as free. Restrooms and a tourist information center are also included among the available facilities, so no separate ticket is needed for an itinerary focused solely on a lakeside walk.
The Uirimji History Museum opened beside Uirimji in January 2019 and consists of five spaces. The museum is introduced as operating from 09:00 to 18:00 and being closed on Mondays and January 1. Admission is 2,000 won for adults and 1,000 won for children and teenagers. Exhibition explanations can be requested on site, making the museum suitable for visitors who want to supplement their understanding of the reservoir’s structure and local history indoors.
Waterfalls Easily Missed on Mondays and Reservations for Tour Guides
Uirimji itself is open year-round, with the official operating-hours description stating “open year-round.” Yongchupokpo Falls and the fountains, however, are closed every Monday. Therefore, a Monday visit can focus on the lake, Jerim Forest, and pavilions; if waterfall and fountain operation is central to your itinerary, another day is more suitable.
Tourism and cultural interpretation services are offered from 10:00 to 18:00 from March to October and from 10:00 to 17:00 from November to February. The advance reservation phone number is 043-641-6731. The Uirimji Tourist Information Center can be reached at 043-651-7101. Jecheon City’s official information indicates that wheelchair access is possible and pets are allowed, but it does not provide confirmed information about full-route stroller access, photography restrictions, cash-only payment, English guidance, or an audio guide.
Calculate Duck-Boat Fees and Visiting Time Separately
A blog guide lists a 30-minute duck boat at 19,000 won for three people, 22,000 won for four people, and 23,000 won for five people. Since these prices and current operation have not been confirmed on the official facility page, visitors should not treat the duck-boat experience fee as part of Uirimji’s free admission.
A brief visit takes 20–30 minutes for one circuit, while including Jerim Forest, the pavilions, Yongchupokpo Falls, and the museum requires additional time for the approximately 2 km walking trail and museum visit. Because this is a place for walking by the water and through the forest, the recommended schedule differs between visitors who only want to see the lakeside and those who also want historical explanations. If you include the museum, also consider its 09:00–18:00 operating hours and closures on Mondays and January 1.
