Jecheon Oriental Medicine Expo Park is a mixed educational, cultural, and leisure complex themed around traditional medicine culture and traditional medical practices. Jecheon City established a direction for the park to function as the main center of “Jecheon, a City of Traditional Medicine and Wellness,” and developed it to convey the value of traditional medicine culture and traditional medical practices through experiential programs for visitors and the placement of cultural tourism interpreters.
According to the official information, the cultural facilities cover 48,415㎡, and the park has a capacity of 1,500 people. The park exhibition hall covers 13,124㎡ and the plaza 14,543㎡, so it is more accurate to understand this as a complex facility where visitors use multiple facilities and outdoor spaces rather than simply an indoor exhibition venue.
Why the Seasonal Admission Cutoff Times Are 09:00 and 09:30
The park’s summer operating hours are 09:00–17:30, with last admission at 17:00. Winter operating hours are 09:30–17:00, with last admission at 16:00. Since arriving in the late afternoon may leave little time to tour each building, foreign travelers who want to see several exhibition halls should enter before 17:00 in summer and before 16:00 in winter.
The park is closed every Monday, and when Monday is a public holiday, it closes the following day. It is also closed on January 1, Lunar New Year, and Chuseok. Distinguishing the Three Free Exhibition Venues from Paid Experiences
The Oriental Medicine Life Science Museum, International Fermentation Museum, and Medicinal Herb & Herb Botanical Garden are free exhibition venues. Admission to the Medicinal Herb Exploration Hall is also free, but its experiential programs charge separate fees. Therefore, no admission-ticket budget is needed to view the exhibitions themselves, but visitors should prepare additional program fees for foot baths, tea, and craft experiences.
Experience fees vary by program. A medicinal herb pouch costs 5,000 won; the oriental medicine foot bath experience and astragalus tea cost 9,000 won; oriental medicine foot care costs 10,000 won; and programs including one of an oriental medicine foot bath experience, astragalus tea, ssanghwatang tea, jujube tea, or ginger tea cost 12,000 won. Oriental medicine hop-oil candles, oriental medicine aroma diffusers, fabric softener, and perfume, oriental medicine picture cups, and oriental medicine hop tea-making each cost 16,500 won, while an oriental medicine healing infusion costs 18,700 won.
What to See and in Which Order at the Three-Story Oriental Medicine Life Science Museum
The Oriental Medicine Life Science Museum is a three-story above-ground building with a total floor area of 6,663㎡ and a capacity of 300 people. The first floor contains a special exhibition room, multipurpose auditorium, and information desk, while the second floor has an exploration hall, experience hall, and flexible exhibition room. Since the information desk is on the first floor, it is a good idea to ask first about the exhibition route and whether same-day experiences are available when you arrive.
The third floor has an Understanding Hall, Learning Hall, 4D Theater, and VR Experience Hall. Exhibition themes include the history of the human body and disease, the principles of traditional Korean medicine, and diagnosis and treatment methods. If traveling with children, prioritize the second-floor Experience Hall and the third-floor video and VR spaces, and allow plenty of time because the Oriental Medicine Life Science Museum spans several floors.
The Connection from the International Fermentation Museum to Jecheon’s Medicinal Herb Market
The International Fermentation Museum is a two-story above-ground building with a total floor area of 2,456㎡ and a capacity of 150 people. It exhibits fermented foods and fermentation methods and processes from around the world, showing that the theme of the Oriental Medicine Expo Park extends beyond medicinal ingredients to everyday foods and the fermentation industry.
The first floor has an exhibition room on traditional fermentation methods and fermentation, as well as an exhibition of traditional alcoholic beverages by region. The basement introduces fermented products made in Jecheon, a fermentation-aroma experience, and future industries related to fermentation. The medicinal herb sales area in the park continues the tradition of Jecheon Medicinal Herb Market, one of Korea’s three major traditional medicinal herb markets, and sells medicinal ingredients including its representative herb, astragalus.
The Medicinal Herb & Herb Botanical Garden and Children’s Park for Seeing Herbs in Every Season
The Medicinal Herb & Herb Botanical Garden has a total floor area of 2,398㎡ and a capacity of 100 people. It presents traditional medicinal herbs cultivated, produced, or growing naturally in Korea in their natural forms, making it an exhibition space where visitors can view medicinal herbs throughout the year. It is suitable for visitors who prioritize year-round herb exhibitions over places where outdoor scenery changes with the seasons.
The Oriental Medicine Expo Children’s Park combines traditional medicine education and play, and has a capacity of 20 people. At the Medicinal Herb Exploration Hall, visitors can experience making medicinal herb soap, scented herb pouches, oriental medicine hand cream, and oriental medicine foot care. The medicinal herb pouch experience is available for groups of 1 to 60 people and costs 5,000 won, while the deer antler and agarwood pill experience is available for 1 to 80 people and costs 3,000 won per item.
A Visit Plan Based on a Car Departure Point Rather Than Jecheon Station
The current bus route numbers and service intervals from Jecheon Station were not confirmed in the official information. If a first-time foreign visitor uses public transportation, a practical approach after arriving in central Jecheon is to give the park’s address, “19 Hanbang Expo-ro, Jecheon-si, Chungcheongbuk-do (660 Wangam-dong),” as the destination. Before departure, visitors can also call 043-920-5500 to ask about directions and connections.
By car, the park is described as approximately 1 hour 30 minutes from Seoul via the Yeongdong Expressway, Jungang Expressway, and Jecheon IC, and approximately 2 hours from Daejeon via the Gyeongbu Expressway, Jungbu Expressway, Jeungpyeong IC, Eumseong, and Chungju. The Oriental Medicine Life Science Museum parking lot has space for 103 vehicles: 96 small vehicles, 5 large vehicles, and 2 accessible parking spaces. The Park’s Current Role Demonstrated by the 2025 Expo
Jecheon Oriental Medicine Expo Park was used as the venue for the 2025 Jecheon International Oriental Medicine and Natural Products Industry Expo. The event was held throughout the park for 30 days, from September 20 to October 19, 2025, and the event site was listed as covering 123,997㎡.
At the time, participation was planned for 250 companies from 30 countries. This record shows that the park is not only a permanent exhibition venue but also a site capable of hosting international traditional medicine and natural products industry events. However, expo-period operations differ from normal operations, so current visits should be planned primarily around the free permanent exhibitions and separate experience programs.
