Seogwipo Healing Forest: Jeju Dialect Forest Trails and Reserved Entry Across 174 ha

Hogeun-dong, home to Jeju’s first healing forest since June 26, 2016
Seogwipo Healing Forest is located at 2271 Sanroknam-ro, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province (Hogeun-dong), and opened on June 26, 2016. Covering 174 hectares, it features vegetation from subtropical, temperate, and boreal forests across elevations of 320–760 m.
Its distinction as Jeju’s first healing forest is reflected in the names of its forest trails and program areas. Several areas contain hinoki cypress forests with trees averaging more than 60 years old, while the Hinoki Heat Healing Room and Dadam Room, where visitors finish by drinking tea, are available as program spaces.
Trail options at Seogwipo Healing Forest: you do not walk all 174 hectares at once
The entire trail network is described as totaling 15 km. The longest, Nolmeong Healing Forest Trail, is 2.1 km; Gameongomeong Forest Trail is 1.9 km, Gabetttorong Healing Forest Trail is 1.2 km, and Haneulbaragi Healing Forest Trail is 1.1 km.
For shorter routes, compare Benzorong Healing Forest Trail at 0.9 km, Ogosaengi Healing Forest Trail at 0.8 km, Sumbisori Healing Forest Trail at 0.7 km, Eomburang Healing Forest Trail at 0.7 km, and Sandorok Healing Forest Trail at 0.6 km. Gameongomeong Forest Trail has universal design features and an 870 m barrier-free deck facility.
Jeju dialect in Gameongomeong, Gabetttorong, and Sumbisori
At Nogorok Forest, a healing space on Gameongomeong Forest Trail, “Nogorok” means “comfortable” in the Jeju dialect. Gabetttorong is explained as meaning “light and easy,” while Benzorong means “fresh and splendid.”
Sumbisori refers to the sound a haenyeo makes when coming out of the water after diving, while Ogosaengi means “just as it is” and Sandorok means “refreshing.” Knowing the trail names lets you choose a course in connection with Jeju’s everyday culture rather than simply by distance.
38 km from Jeju International Airport: a rental car is simpler than the bus
The site is approximately 38 km and 50 minutes by car from Jeju International Airport. From Seogwipo City, the journey is about 8.4 km and 15 minutes; from Jungmun, it is about 13 km and 20 minutes. The address is 2271 Sanroknam-ro, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. The official transportation information refers public transportation visitors to “notices” and does not provide bus route numbers, stop information, or subway exit details.
The parking lot accommodates 66 vehicles, including up to two large buses. Parking fees are KRW 1,000 for small vehicles, KRW 2,000 for medium and small vehicles, and KRW 3,000 for large vehicles. Foreign visitors planning to travel by bus from the airport or Jeju City should separately check the notices and actual schedules on the day of departure. The official page does not specify the walking distance from the ticket office to the trail starting point.
Entry at 08:00 or 09:00; no entry after 16:00
Seogwipo Healing Forest is open year-round. During the summer season, April–October, trail entry is from 08:00 to 16:00 and the descent deadline is 17:30. During the winter season, November–March, entry is from 09:00 to 16:00 and the descent deadline is 17:00. In other words, visitors arriving late in the afternoon may find that entry has closed even though the facility is still operating.
Same-day online reservations are available until 15:59, and reservable dates are released at 09:00 on the 1st and 16th of each month. If spaces remain, same-day online reservations and on-site ticketing are available. However, advance reservations are limited to 600 people per day, and entry is not possible once capacity is reached.
General admission for adults: KRW 1,000; forest healing programs: KRW 20,000
General admission is KRW 1,000 per adult, or KRW 800 per person for groups of 10 or more. Youth admission is KRW 600 individually and KRW 500 for groups. Infants, children, families with multiple children, people with severe disabilities, Jeju residents, and eligible national veterans, among others, are admitted free of charge. The main inquiry number is the Forest Recreation Management Office at 064-760-3067~8.
Forest healing programs operate by advance reservation. Programs lasting approximately three hours cost KRW 20,000 for adults and KRW 10,000 for youth and children, with admission and parking fees waived. Programs lasting approximately two hours cost KRW 12,000 for adults and KRW 6,000 for youth and children. Participants walk about 2 km with a forest healing instructor before returning downhill to the starting point, the ticket office, making the round-trip distance approximately 4 km.
A forest where only water is allowed; high heels and pets are restricted
Only water may be consumed inside the forest. Eating and drinking outside designated areas, as well as smoking, are prohibited, and bringing pets is not allowed. Long sleeves, long pants, and athletic or hiking shoes are recommended. Entry may be restricted for high heels, dress shoes, slippers, and Crocs.
If access to the mountain is restricted because of weather warnings or on-site conditions, reservations may be canceled. Visitors using wheelchairs or strollers may wish to prioritize Gameongomeong Forest Trail, which has an 870 m barrier-free deck facility, and the Nogorok Barrier-Free Sharing Trail. However, the latest operating status of wheelchair rentals, restrooms, and nursing rooms, as well as the availability of English information and audio guides, is not confirmed in the official information.
Gweyong Sutgul Bomyeong at 10:00 and Jatdamgil Georeumeong on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays
The guided interpretation program “Gweyong Sutgul Bomyeong” takes place twice daily, at 10:00 and 14:00. The forest healing program includes self-guided measurements of the autonomic nervous system, stress, and blood pressure in the health measurement room, as well as use of the Hinoki Heat Healing Room and Dadam Room. Advance reservation is required.
“Jatdamgil Georeumeong” operates every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday from 10:30 to 12:30. Since no official recommended viewing time has been confirmed for general visits, it is more realistic to plan around the reserved program, the distance of the selected trail, and the 16:00 entry cutoff rather than attempting to walk the entire 15 km.
Designated an Accessible Tourist Site in 2020, but preparation is still necessary
Seogwipo Healing Forest was designated an Accessible Tourist Site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2020 and was selected in the nature and forest healing category of the 2024 Jeju Wellness Tourist Sites. The forest is introduced as having trails rich in hinoki cypress and cedar trees, mats woven from palm bark, and the Nogorok Barrier-Free Sharing Trail.
However, the designation “Accessible Tourist Site” does not mean that every section is flat or that every service is available in foreign languages. First-time foreign visitors should search for “Seogwipo Healing Forest” on Seogwipo City’s e-ticket site and make a reservation, then prepare athletic shoes, long pants, water, and a descent schedule. It is safest to plan for the 38 km journey from Jeju International Airport.
