June 2007: Korea's first suburban premium outlet opens

Shinsegae Simon, which operates Yeoju Premium Outlet, is a corporation established through a joint investment by Shinsegae Group and Simon Property Group of the United States in June 2005. Yeoju Premium Outlet, which the company opened in June 2007, is considered Korea's first suburban-style premium outlet, and celebrated its 19th anniversary in 2026.

With the opening of the expanded second building on February 24, 2015, the site area increased from 264,500㎡ to 453,100㎡, the retail area grew from 26,500㎡ to 53,400㎡, and the number of tenant brands rose from 145 to more than 270. Before the expansion, the outlet had recorded 6.2 million annual visitors and 33 million cumulative visitors.

More than 270 brands, including around 60 luxury labels — names found only in Yeoju

Yeoju Premium Outlet is home to more than 270 brands, including around 60 luxury labels such as Gucci, Burberry, Moncler, Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent, and Balenciaga, giving it the largest selection of luxury brands among premium outlets in Korea.

Loro Piana, Maison Margiela, Acne Studios, WOOYOUNGMI, and RECTO are among the brands that can be found exclusively at Yeoju among Korean outlets. In April 2026, the business-casual brand POTTERY opened a new store in the WEST area, marking its first store opening in a Korean outlet channel.

Summer and winter hours differ, and the outlet closes on Lunar New Year's Day and Chuseok Day

Operating hours vary by season. During summer (May–October), general stores are open from 10:30 to 21:00, while the specialty restaurant area operates from 11:00 to 21:00. During winter (November–April), general stores are open from 10:30 to 20:30 Monday through Thursday and from 10:30 to 21:00 Friday through Sunday and on public holidays. The specialty restaurant area maintains hours of 11:00 to 21:00. The outlet is closed on Lunar New Year's Day and Chuseok Day, and hours may change depending on operating circumstances.

Wheelchair users can access the main entrance without steps, and wheelchairs and strollers are available for rent at the information center. Elevators, accessible restrooms, and designated accessible parking spaces are also provided.

How to get there without a car — direct bus from Gangnam Express Bus Terminal and a parking tower

Because the outlet is located on the outskirts of Yeoju, access by public transportation was difficult. However, on July 1, 2023, Dongbu Express launched an intercity bus service directly connecting Seoul Express Bus Terminal (Gyeongbu Line) with the outlet. The total route distance is 80.7 km. As there is no ticket office at the stop, passengers must reserve through the TmoneyGO app or purchase a ticket on board, and the route is separate from the one serving Yeoju Bus Terminal.

From September 28, 2023, service was increased to 10 trips per day on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. Starting in June 2026, one additional weekday round trip was added, creating a schedule of eight weekday trips and 10 weekend trips. A new 7:00 p.m. departure from Gangnam Terminal and a 9:00 p.m. departure from Yeoju made it possible to shop into the evening. From the launch through May 2026, cumulative ridership reached approximately 250,000, while the number of foreign passengers more than doubled from the previous year. Travelers using Yeoju Station must transfer to a city bus, and visitor reviews repeatedly mention that buses departing at 9:00 and 9:30 a.m. on weekend mornings are especially crowded.

Visitors arriving by car can use the large on-site parking lot and separate parking tower. Multiple visitor reviews describe the parking tower as large enough to be used as a meeting point. However, no official information on parking fees has been confirmed.

One-day tours for foreign visitors departing from Hongdae and Myeong-dong, plus payment infrastructure

For foreign independent travelers (FITs) without cars, Shinsegae Simon operates one-day tours in partnership with inbound travel agencies. Since April 2025, it has operated a tour with HanaTour ITC that departs from Hongik University, passes through Myeong-dong, includes five hours of shopping at the outlet, and returns to Seoul. In partnership with Wondertrip, it has also operated tours departing from Hongdae and Myeong-dong with a five- to six-hour stay. From July 1, 2026, the frequency of Wondertrip tours increased from three to five times per week.

Payment infrastructure has also expanded, with Line Pay added to WeChat Pay and Alipay. As a result, foreign-customer sales from January through March 2025 increased 70% year over year, while tax refunds rose approximately threefold from the previous year. According to the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute, the rate of repeat visits among foreign visitors to Korea is 56.6%, and 57.6% cite shopping as a main purpose. This trend is accompanied by repeat visitors expanding their trips from downtown areas to suburban outlets.

Combine it with Yeoju Premium Village across the street for 400 brands

Across from the outlet was the former 375 Outlet. Shinsegae Simon renovated it as a community-oriented shopping town and named it Yeoju Premium Village, holding its grand opening in June 2024, the 17th anniversary of Yeoju Premium Outlet. Yeoju Premium Village is home to more than 120 brands focused on young casual fashion, sports, and beauty. Together, the two complexes offer approximately 400 brands across all categories.

At a 20th-anniversary event in June 2025, Shinsegae Simon announced plans to expand the Yeoju location by 2027 and develop it into a “Premium Outlet 2.0” comparable to Woodbury Common in the United States and Gotemba Premium Outlets in Japan. The plan would add 10,000㎡ to the existing 53,400㎡ of retail space, bringing the total area to 90,000㎡ when the community shopping center is included. The company is targeting sales in the trillion-won range, a first for a single premium outlet location in Korea.

Restaurants to visit during your shopping break — from Knotted to Yeoju Farmers Market

The specialty restaurant area operates from 11:00 to 21:00 year-round. Visitor review sites list information on 72 restaurants, including the doughnut shop Knotted, the tteokbokki restaurant Igane Tteokbokki, and the pork cutlet restaurant Supsogui Oven.

When the outlet was expanded in 2015, Yeoju Farmers Market also opened. Covering approximately 500 pyeong (1,700㎡), it sells local Yeoju specialties such as rice, sweet potatoes, and peanuts. Family amenities were also enhanced with a children's playground covering 270 pyeong, rides, and a kids' café.

A Yeoju outing paired with Silleuksa and Yeongneung — and who may not find this place suitable

Yeoju developed as a transportation hub along the Namhangang River during the Joseon period. Nearby attractions include King Sejong's Tomb (Yeongneung), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, King Hyojong's Tomb, and Silleuksa Tourist Area. Every year from April to May, the Yeoju Ceramic Festival is held, offering visitors the chance to enjoy works by ceramic artisans and hands-on making experiences.

However, because the outlet is located in a suburb that takes about an hour each way from central Seoul, it is not easy to make an impromptu visit using only public transportation without reserving a direct express bus or one-day tour. Even after getting off at Yeoju Station, visitors must transfer to a city bus. On winter weekdays, general stores close at 8:30 p.m., which may make time tight for those planning an after-work visit. The concentration of passengers on buses departing around 9:00 a.m. on weekends is also something to consider in advance if you prefer to travel at a relaxed pace.
