500 camping chairs that filled Louvre Square have come to DDP
When you come to Seoul in summer, there is one problem. It is too hot during the day, and at night it is hard to find somewhere to go. But the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) fills your entire evening this summer. DDP Vacation: Music Festival will be held for three days, from July 31 to August 2, 2026, at DDP Oullim Square. It opens every day at 4 p.m. and wraps up at 11 p.m., so if you avoid the daytime heat and head out around sunset, it is perfect.
The concept of this festival is a 'city vacation you do not need to travel far for.' So it is not just a stage; the entire space has been designed like a resort. What I was most curious about was the healing zone, and more than 500 Helinox camping chairs that filled the Pyramid Square at the Louvre in France are installed here at DDP as well. Rows of camping chairs beneath the silver, spaceship-like building designed by Zaha Hadid looked unreal even in photos.

Jazz, classical, and folk — every night is different
The real charm of this festival is that the musical style changes completely from day to day. The main live stage runs from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., with the first day as 'Jazz Night,' the second day as 'Classical Night,' and the third day as 'Folk Night.' It is fine to go for just one day, but if you have a favorite genre, you can pick the day you want.
What is interesting is that the hours between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. are not empty. Events continue during the afternoon, and the full live program begins at 9 p.m., so even if you finish work, have dinner, and arrive gradually, it is not too late. If you are a traveler like me, I recommend eating around the Dongdaemun shopping area nearby and entering once it gets dark. The performance itself is music that does not require language, so even if you do not know Korean, you can simply sit in a chair and enjoy it. As the night deepens, the curved outer walls of DDP light up and become the backdrop for the stage, and that is a scene you can only see in Seoul.

Admission is free, but bring your wallet for food and drinks
First things first: admission is free. You can enter Oullim Square without a separate ticket. However, some food and drinks inside the venue are paid. The market zone offers DDP beer, premium distilled spirits, pairing food, and non-alcoholic drinks, and 20 small business vendors such as Gundangso, Mels Kitchen, and Eunseol sell items like ice cream, pesto, and chips. Nongshim is also introducing a new potato chip product and running an event to give away tickets to the musical 'Jump.'
Payments for food and drinks are generally made by card or mobile pay, but some small-business booths may vary depending on on-site conditions, so bringing a little cash in small bills will give you peace of mind. And remember one important thing — the lounge resting zone made with bean bags is operated for pre-registered visitors. Registered guests also receive a 'DDP Vacation Package' consisting of drinks, snacks, and souvenirs. There may be some spots available on a first-come, first-served basis on site, but if you want to lie back comfortably in a good spot, reserving in advance is the surest option. For detailed reservation methods and same-day operating information, check the official DDP notice.
- Period: July 31, 2026 to August 2, 2026 (every day from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.)
- Live stage: 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. / Day 1 Jazz, Day 2 Classical, Day 3 Folk
- What to bring: even on a summer night it is outdoors, so a light outer layer, insect spray, and an umbrella or raincoat for rain
Easy to reach, just one subway stop away
Transportation is a major advantage of this festival. DDP is directly connected to Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station on Subway Lines 2, 4, and 5. If you exit from Exit 1, Oullim Square is right in front of you, so you will hardly get lost. Since it ends at 11 p.m., you may worry about getting home, but Seoul subway last trains are generally around midnight, so even if you stay until the end of the performance, you can still leave by subway. However, last-train times differ by line, so it is reassuring to check the last train for your direction to your accommodation in advance.
The surrounding area is also traveler-friendly. Promotions are being carried out in connection with nearby Dongdaemun shopping areas such as Hyundai City Outlet and Doota Mall near DDP, and this district is originally a shopping area that stays open until late into the night, so even after the festival ends, you can continue with late-night snacks or shopping nearby. Facilities related to restrooms and luggage can use DDP's own building infrastructure, so it is relatively comfortable for an outdoor festival.
Who it is recommended for
It is perfect for travelers who want to quietly enjoy a Seoul night alone, or for anyone who wants to stretch out tired legs in a camping chair after daytime sightseeing and just listen to music. The experience of entering for free without a ticket and listening to jazz or classical music against the backdrop of the city nightscape is more memorable than you might expect. There are also participation programs such as beach-themed photo zones, frame photo booths, a 'Cheers Time' toast event, and a lucky draw, so there is plenty to do for photos and fun. If you want a special scene on a Seoul summer night, do not miss these three days.
