Event Overview

“Dialogue in the Dark, January~February 2026” is a permanent hands-on exhibition located in the heart of Bukchon, Seoul (71 Bukchon-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul). In a space completely cut off from light, you follow a guide called a roadmaster and for about 100 minutes you move without ‘seeing’ — walking, touching, listening, and talking to each other. While your eyes rest, your ears, fingertips, and above all your ‘conversation’ become busy.

As of March 5, 2026 the January–February 2026 period has already passed, but this exhibition is not a seasonal pop-up; it is a regular program run in time slots. You can book by selecting a date/time on Interpark according to your travel schedule (slots run every 15 minutes; operating days/times follow official guidance).

Standing in front of the quiet alleys of Bukchon and the concrete-textured building, you first get the feeling, “If I go inside, I really won’t see anything.” And that feeling is… pretty accurate. You must store anything that can emit light, like phones or smartwatches, and inside the dark you rely on each other’s voices to move.

Advantages from the perspective of foreign visitors

1) An indoor experience perfect for winter Seoul, but not a typical indoor attraction: January–February in Seoul is windy and cold, and here you can focus solely on the ‘experience’ without worrying about the weather. It’s not like quietly viewing a museum; you move as a team and physically experience shifting senses.

2) The Bukchon location naturally connects to travel routes: It’s within walking distance from Anguk Station (about 15 minutes based on official guidance), and nearby spots like Bukchon Hanok Village, Samcheong-dong, Insadong, and Changdeokgung make for a lovely route of “morning palace + afternoon experience + evening café.”

3) Transport tips: Use Anguk Station on Line 3 as a reference; village buses Jongno01/Jongno02 are also available (alight at ‘Anguk Seonwon’ or ‘Samgeori’ as instructed).

4) On-site preparation tips (really important): (a) Arrive at least 15 minutes early to check in and organize lockers (b) use the restroom before entry because it is difficult to use during the experience (c) wear comfortable shoes since small discomforts feel larger in the dark.

Drawbacks from the perspective of foreign visitors

1) Language barriers can become a safety, not just an emotional, issue: To move safely in the dark you must immediately understand staff directions, so foreigners who have difficulty communicating in Korean are recommended to book after prior consultation (official guidance: entry may be restricted if you book without prior consultation). Travelers are advised to inquire in advance about “whether English is available / at which times” for peace of mind.

2) The disappointment of having almost no photos/videos left: Photography is not allowed inside, so the trip is filled with memorable conversations rather than ‘proof photos’. If documentation is important to you, take plenty of pictures in the Bukchon alleys before entering.

3) Condition issues: If you have claustrophobia or panic issues, it’s better not to force it. 100 minutes in the dark can feel longer than expected. Having the mindset that “I can say immediately if I’m uncomfortable” really helps.
