Gangchon Rail Park Gim You-jeong Station

Gangchon Rail Park Gim You-jeong Station offers a one-way course that begins with a 6 km rail-bike ride along the abandoned Gyeongchun Line, continues with a 2.5 km romantic train ride from the midway rest area, and ends with a return by shuttle bus. Since the course starts right next to Gim You-jeong Station, it is convenient to reach by Gyeongchun Line train, but careful planning is essential to coordinate reservations, ticketing, and the departure time precisely.

How the Discontinued Gyeongchun Line Became Kim Yujeong Rail Bike in August 2012

The Gangchon Rail Park Kim Yujeong Station course is a rail bike facility that uses the former Gyeongchun Line railway tracks. The Gyeongchun Line was a railway connecting the Seoul metropolitan area with Chuncheon, and after the railway function of this section changed, Gangchon Rail Park opened on August 10, 2012, as a one-way 6 km route from Kim Yujeong Station to the Gangchon-ri Rest Area.

The current course consists of a 6 km rail bike ride departing from Kim Yujeong Plaza and passing through the Pink Muhly, Soap Bubble, Milky Way, and Club tunnels before arriving at the Midway Rest Area; a Romantic Train ride covering 2.5 km; and a free shuttle bus returning to the starting point. In other words, this is not simply a round-trip experience of pedaling out and back, but an approximately two-hour itinerary connecting rail tracks, a train, and road transportation in one sequence.

How to Choose a Departure Time, from the First Train at 09:00 to the 18:30 Last Train in Peak Season

As confirmed in August 2026, regular operations run nine times a day at 09:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30, 16:30, and 17:30. On weekends and public holidays from May through October, a tenth departure at 18:30 is added, so if you want an evening ride in summer, first check whether the 18:30 departure is available on the reservation page for your date.

On Lunar New Year's Day and Chuseok Day, only departures from the fifth through the tenth run. Passengers with reservations must arrive at the boarding area at least 20 minutes before departure. If you miss the departure time, you cannot board and a refund is difficult to obtain. The 09:00 departure is convenient for planning a schedule before a meal in downtown Chuncheon, while for the 17:30 departure or the 18:30 departure on weekends and public holidays, it is safer to allow ample time for the return train and shuttle bus.

  • Regular operations: 09:00–17:30, 9 departures
  • Weekends and public holidays from May to October: 18:30 departure added
  • Lunar New Year's Day and Chuseok Day: only departures after 13:30 operate
  • Required arrival at the boarding area: 20 minutes before departure

KRW 40,000 for Two Seats and KRW 56,000 for Four Seats: Choosing Tickets by Group Size

Fares for the Kim Yujeong Rail Bike are KRW 40,000 for a two-seater and KRW 56,000 for a four-seater. The price is per bike, not per person. A group of three must purchase a four-seater, while a group of five must reserve one two-seater and one four-seater. Two-seaters and four-seaters also cannot depart together under the operating rules, so if your group needs several bikes, it is better to use the same type for all of them.

Children under 36 months may ride with an accompanying adult after the guardian agrees to a safety pledge at the ticket office, while children aged 36 months or older must sit in a seat and wear a seat belt. Because a rail bike is heavier than a regular bicycle, children and older adults should ride with a guardian, and the capacity limit cannot be exceeded. Since tickets are not sold as admission-only tickets, the admission fee in the essentials section is most accurately listed as the price per bike.

No Same-Day Reservations: Completed Payment, an RS Reservation Number, and Ticket Issuance 20 Minutes Before Departure

Gangchon Rail Park operates by reservation, and an online reservation is confirmed only after payment has been completed. Same-day online reservations are not available, while on-site sales are offered on a first-come, first-served basis only when there are cancellations or unsold tickets. Peak season is listed as May 1–31 and October 1–31, and standard discounts are restricted during these periods.

To change a reservation, you must cancel the existing payment and make a new reservation; the date, time, and number of bikes cannot be changed immediately after confirmation. When collecting tickets, prepare the reservation text message and the reservation number beginning with “RS,” and do not lose the ticket once it has been issued. Cancellations three days before the date of use receive a full refund, cancellations two days before receive an 80% refund, and cancellations one day before receive a 70% refund. Same-day cancellations must be processed at least one hour before departure and are refunded after a 50% deduction.

  • Same-day online reservations: Not available
  • On-site purchase: First come, first served, subject to remaining seats
  • Group discount: 10% for reservations of 30 or more people
  • Group inquiries: 033-245-1000~2

From the Starting Point Beside Kim Yujeong Station to the Romantic Train and Former Gangchon Station Shuttle

The address is 1383 Kim Yujeong-ro, Sindong-myeon, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, and the operator lists the address as Gangchon Rail Park Kim Yujeong Station, 323-2 Jeung-ri, Sindong-myeon, Chuncheon-si. Since the starting point is directly beside Gyeongchun Line's Kim Yujeong Station, travelers from the Seoul area can practically choose between the Gyeongchun Line subway toward Cheongnyangni or Sangbong, and a combination of the ITX-Cheongchun and subway, according to the timetable for the day of departure.

After the course ends, follow the blue line on the ground from the Romantic Train's disembarkation area to the shuttle bus boarding area near the former Gangchon Station. The shuttle bus is free to the Kim Yujeong Station starting point. If you brought a vehicle, you can return to the starting point and retrieve your parked car. Since parking fees and same-day full-capacity status are not clearly fixed in the official notices, it is best to confirm them before departure by calling the main number, 033-245-1000.

The 50 m Rule: Operations Continue in Rain and Snow but May Stop in Torrential Rain or Heavy Snow

The rail bikes generally operate as normal even when it rains or snows. However, operations may be suspended without prior notice in the event of sudden severe weather, such as torrential rain or heavy snow, or for safety reasons. If the operator decides to cancel due to weather, customers are eligible for a 100% refund. The refund policy for personal cancellations does not change simply because of rain.

Because braking distances become longer on rainy days, maintain at least 50 m between rail bikes in front and behind, rather than the usual 10 m or more. Drinking alcohol, smoking, getting off without authorization, sudden stops, and throwing litter are prohibited during the ride, and passengers may board or disembark only after the bike has come to a complete stop. In summer, bringing a plastic raincoat and shoes that can get wet is helpful; in winter, gloves that cover the hands help with pedaling and maintaining body temperature.

A Continuous Two-Hour Itinerary through the Book Café, Yujeong Shop, and Midway Rest Area

The Kim Yujeong boarding area has a Book Wall photo zone, a book café, and Yujeong Shop. Drinks and snacks purchased at the book café may be brought onto the rail bike. According to a 2021 notice, the Kim Yujeong Station Book Station Café was open from 08:30 to 17:30, so visitors using an early departure should reconfirm by phone whether it is actually operating on the date of their visit.

The Midway Rest Area, the endpoint of the 6 km pedaling section, is the departure point for the Romantic Train. Food trucks and a photo kiosk are listed there, allowing visitors to handle snacks and photos during the middle of the itinerary. Since the route continues with the 2.5 km Romantic Train and the shuttle bus return, it is better not to schedule another appointment immediately after boarding. Allow at least two hours, and even more time on weekends to account for possible waiting.
