A Glass Walkway 15 m Beyond the Edge of Seungdumal Cliff, with Oryukdo Beneath Your Feet

The site where Oryukdo Skywalk stands was formerly known as “Seungdumal” in Yongho-dong, Nam-gu, Busan. The Korea Tourism Organization explains that the name changed to Seungdumal from “Seungduma,” a term used for the horseshoe-shaped terrain, and records that haenyeo divers and local residents also called this area “Jalrokgae.”

Construction began on September 12, 2012, and the facility opened on October 18, 2013. It is 15 m long and has a U-shaped structure extending about 9 m toward the sea from the edge of the Seungdumal cliff.

Skywalk is an aerial promenade built by installing steel beams on a coastal cliff approximately 35 m high and connecting 24 glass panels in a horseshoe shape. The floor is described as high-load bulletproof glass 55.49 mm thick, made by combining four 12 mm glass panels with bulletproof film.

Visitors must wear shoe covers provided on site before entering, and running or playing on the glass is prohibited. Travelers with a fear of heights or difficulty looking down through a transparent floor for long periods may prefer to view Oryukdo from the entrance and the observation area near Haemaji Park rather than walk across the entire glass walkway.

Why Oryukdo Appears as Five Islands at High Tide and Six at Low Tide

Oryukdo got its name because it appears to consist of either five or six islands depending on the tide. The Busan Geopark explains that the underlying strata beneath Bangpaeseom and Solseom, the two islands closest to the mainland, are connected. Thus, at high tide they appear as one island called Usakdo, while at low tide they appear divided into two.

The islands are Bangpaeseom, Solseom, Suriseom, Songgutseom, Gulseom, and Deungdaeseom. This area is also known as the boundary between the East Sea and the South Sea, and Oryukdo and Igidae are included among the geological attractions of the Busan Geopark. Getting There by Bus 24, 27, or 131 from Exit 5 of Kyungsung University–Pukyong National University Station

The most direct public transportation route is to transfer from Exit 5 of Kyungsung University–Pukyong National University Station on Busan Metro Line 2 to city bus 24, 27, or 131, and get off at the “Oryukdo Skywalk” stop. If you use the Busan City Tour Bus Green Line, you can get off at the “Oryukdo” stop.

When approaching from the Igidae Coastal Trail, another option is to take bus 20, 22, 24, 27, 39, or 131 and get off at “Igidae Entrance,” or take bus 131, 22, or Nam-gu Village Bus 2 and get off near “Oryukdo SK View Apartment.” First-time foreign visitors should note that the stop names are similar, so it is a good idea to check “137 Oryukdo-ro, Nam-gu, Busan” on a map again before getting off.

Skywalk Public Parking: 300 Won per 10 Minutes and the Wind Factor

Visitors arriving by car can use the nearby Skywalk public parking lot. For passenger cars, the parking fee is listed as 300 won per 10 minutes, with a daily maximum of 8,000 won, and the parking lot operates 24 hours a day. Visitor reviews from 2025 mention that paid parking space is not particularly ample, so public transportation or an early visit is more reliable on weekends and public holidays. Following Busan’s Southeastern Coast from Haemaji Park to the Igidae Galmaet-gil Trail

Skywalk adjoins Oryukdo Haemaji Park and is also connected to one end of the Igidae Coastal Trail. The Korea Tourism Organization introduces the route from Igidae Urban Natural Park to Oryukdo Skywalk as approximately 4.7 km, taking about 2 hours and 30 minutes on foot. An itinerary for briefly viewing the glass walkway and one for walking the coastal trail require different footwear and fitness plans.

Information on barrier-free facilities, including a level main entrance, an accessible restroom, and dedicated accessible parking spaces, is provided for wheelchair and stroller users. However, the psychological burden of moving across the glass floor and whether access is restricted due to the day’s weather should be considered separately.
