From Haewoljeong Pavilion to the 2.2 km point of Moontan Road: the walking route along Busan’s Dalmaji-gil

Dalmaji-gil is a walking course developed by Haeundae-gu in April 2008 under the name “Moontan Road.” Located at the starting point of Haeundae’s Sampo-gil, it connects a coastal hillside path overlooking Haeundae Beach, Dongbaekseom Island, and Gwangan Bridge with a pine forest trail.

This area was selected as one of Busan’s Eight Scenic Views for its landscape of blue sea, white sandy beaches, and pine forests. The Busan Geopark explains that the evening moon seen from Dalmaji Hill and Cheongsapo is included among Korea’s Eight Scenic Views. As the name suggests, Haewoljeong Pavilion is the key spot for viewing the moonrise, while during the day it is more practical to think of the route primarily as a walking course with sea views.

2.2 km of Moontan Road Descending from Haewoljeong into the Forest

Moontan Road is a 2.2 km circular walking trail, and returning to the starting point takes about one hour. After following the road uphill to Haewoljeong, descend along the narrow path and join Moontan Road to continue through the forest section without retracing the same route.

Official tourism information introduces Moontan Road as a trail illuminated from after sunset until 23:00, and again from 05:00 until sunrise. Therefore, if you plan an evening walk, it is safest to schedule the forest section to finish before 23:00. Since the route includes sloping hills and dirt paths, sneakers are more suitable than sandals.

Village Bus Routes 2 and 10 from Haeundae Station Exit 1 to the Haewoljeong Entrance

By public transportation, official information recommends transferring from Exit 1 of Haeundae Station on Metro Line 2 to Haeundae-gu village bus route 2 or 10, then getting off at the “Haewoljeong Entrance·Hillside Supermarket” stop. It takes about seven minutes to walk from the stop to Haewoljeong.

From Jangsan Station on the same Line 2, you can also take village bus route 2 or 10 to approach the area near the entrance to Dalmaji-gil. From Haeundae Metro Station, you can take route 200 or late-night route 141, get off at Dongbaek Elementary School, and walk for about nine minutes. The City Tour Bus Blue Line, which passes Haeundae Beach, stops at the “Dalmaji-gil” stop.

Dalmaji-gil 190 and Two Public Parking Lots: Why the Bus Is Better During Cherry Blossom Season

The main address is 190 Dalmaji-gil, Haeundae-gu, Busan, and Dalmaji Square has the same address. Visitors arriving by car can first check the Moontan Road Tourist Public Parking Lot at the entrance to Dalmaji-gil and the Haewoljeong Dalmaji-gil Public Parking Lot in front of Haewoljeong, but Busan City warns that they are likely to be full during cherry blossom season.

Dalmaji-gil is a road lined with cafés, restaurants, and residences along a coastal hillside, so it is better to set a public parking lot as your destination rather than rely on roadside parking. Especially on spring weekends, taking a village bus from Haeundae Station or Jangsan Station can reduce parking waits and the time needed to return.

Moonrise at Haewoljeong and Optional Routes Toward Mipo and Cheongsapo

Haewoljeong is a pavilion midway along Dalmaji-gil, and official tourism information describes it as a good location for viewing the moonrise from Dalmaji Hill. A local legend says that promises of love made beneath the full moon of the first lunar month will come true, and this legend is also associated with the pavilion. For visitors, however, Haewoljeong can be used as a point for switching between a road walk and a forest walk.

After completing the Moontan Road loop, you can return directly to the starting point, or continue toward Cheongsapo and Songjeong Beach via the former Donghae Nambu Line railway tracks. Conversely, if you start from Mipo and climb toward Haewoljeong, the uphill section comes first. Visitors with strollers or wheelchairs should therefore plan a shorter route centered on sections marked with ramps, accessible parking, and accessible restrooms.

How to Divide Your Visit Between Cherry Blossoms from Late March to April and Walks Before 23:00

Dalmaji-gil attracts concentrated visitor demand in spring from people hoping to see the cherry blossoms. In a 2026 spring article, the Busan City Children’s Newspaper provided information on access via Jangsan Station and village bus routes 2 and 10, as well as parking congestion during cherry blossom season. If flowers are your main focus, visiting in the morning or on a weekday is preferable, and combining the metro with a village bus instead of driving makes it easier to manage your route.

At night, the Moontan Road lighting ends at 23:00. If you plan to depart late after dining at Haeundae Beach or Mipo, it is better to take a short walk around Haewoljeong and the nearby viewpoints than to force yourself to complete the entire forest trail. On days when heavy rain, strong winds, or typhoons are forecast, walking conditions on the coastal hillside may change, so check Busan tourism information or on-site controls before setting out.
