He Was Lee Byung-hun's Open-Recruitment Classmate... Actress Lee Kyung-sil Became a Shaman, 'Died, They Say, Because of My Mother' (Teukjong Sesang)

Actress Lee Kyung-sil's recent situation has been revealed.

In episode 730 of MBN's in-depth documentary program 'Teukjong Sesang', broadcast on March 12, the story of Lee Kyung-sil—who had worked as an actor specializing in shamanic roles—becoming an actual shaman was introduced.

Lee Kyung-sil, a member of KBS's 14th class of recruited actors, said her peers included Lee Byung-hun, Son Hyun-joo, and Kim Jung-nan, and that her strong features led her to be cast often in shaman roles. She became known through the 1997 drama 'There Is a Bluebird', but it was reported that she is currently living as a shamanic practitioner as a 'sin jeja' (spirit disciple).

Lee Kyung-sil also revealed a shindang (house spirit shrine) in her home. She explained that she had reorganized the shindang she had separated a few years ago and brought it into the house.

She said she received the shamanic calling in 2000 and is now in her 26th year. She added that it is a Jeon Janggun shindang with strong male spirit energy.

She opened up about the severe shock she experienced after her mother's accidental death. After her mother was struck by a bus and died at a crosswalk, she recalled attending a Jinogwi-gut ceremony to honor the spirit and hearing the words "This happened because you did not receive the spirit," which led her to live almost as a recluse for about a year. She later returned, but said that her broadcasting career and daily life felt so meaningless that it was very difficult.

She also experienced strange occurrences afterward, and repeated experiences such as deceased acquaintances appearing in her dreams made her feel she could no longer continue acting, so she said she had no choice but to accept the shamanic calling.
