BTS Jungkook Speaks Out on 'Finger Gesture' Controversy…"I’m Sorry, but I’m Not Wrong"

[Sports Chosun Reporter Kim Jun-seok] Jungkook, a member of the group BTS, apologized to fans as he spoke directly about the 'middle-finger' controversy.

Jungkook mentioned the recent profanity controversy during a Weverse live broadcast, a fan communication platform, on the morning of the 8th.

He bowed his head, saying, "I think I should apologize to ARMY, the fandom, for the recent live broadcast," adding, "I haven't shown that kind of behavior until now, so ARMY may have felt uncomfortable. To the ARMY members who felt that discomfort, I'm sorry. I'll refrain from it going forward."

However, he drew a clear line regarding the profanity and behavior that were at the center of the controversy. Jungkook said, "Did I do something that wrong? I'm not really sure about that," and added, "To be honest, I'm not a public figure, and people working in YouTube or this industry actually say those kinds of things too."

He also revealed his discomfort regarding some critical public opinion, saying, "I don't really have anything to say to people who are always eager to criticize everything. Thank you for paying attention."

Jungkook added, "I hope you understand how I see ARMY. I've always been sincere," and "I'm not a perfect person, but I treated my fans with genuine sincerity. If something seems uncomfortable or wrong, tell me, and I'll accept it."

He continued, "This will probably be edited and posted in a provocative way too," and reiterated, "It might be uncomfortable to use profanity in front of a camera, but I don't think the act itself is wrong."

Previously, Jungkook sparked controversy on the early morning of February 26 while conducting a Weverse live broadcast, when he was seen making a middle-finger gesture toward an acquaintance or swearing.

The words and actions from the approximately 1 hour and 30 minute-long 'drunken live' broadcast spread online, leading to heated debate.
