There are many beer festivals in Korea, but places that highlight "beer made with honey" are rare. Chilgok is known as a neighborhood with one of the largest acacia nectar-producing areas in the country, and the star of this festival is the 'Chilgok Honey Beer' brewed with that honey. It is paired with 'Bundo Sausage,' made by monks at a monastery in the traditional German way. When I visited, it felt less like a simple drinking event and more like a summer-night courtyard where a food zone, hands-on activity zone, and stage were all gathered together on the lawn of Chilgok Peace Fountain, with families and young people mingling. The venue is around the Chilgok Peace Fountain area in Waegwan-eup, Chilgok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and admission is free.

Honey beer and Bundo sausage: start with this combination

There is a clear must-eat item at this festival: Chilgok Honey Beer and Bundo Sausage. Chilgok Honey Beer was developed jointly by the Chilgok-gun Agricultural Technology Center and Gyeongbuk Science College, and it was clearly one of the most popular items on site. It has a slightly sweet aroma and is not too heavy, so it suits summer nights well. Pair it with a salty German-style sausage and the combination is complete. In addition to the main food zone, there are local craft beer booths, food trucks, and agricultural and specialty products for sale, so there was no need to worry about snacks. If you do not drink alcohol, there are separate honey-themed making experiences and tasting programs, so you can enjoy those instead.

Taking the Daegyeong Line train is the best choice

For foreign travelers coming without a car, this will be the most welcome part. Since the Daegyeong Line (Daegu-Gyeongbuk metropolitan railway) opened in 2025, access by train from nearby major cities such as Daegu and Gumi has become much easier. In particular, the Haha & Skull performance on the last night reportedly drew thousands of spectators through the rain.
