September 2–6: 2026 K-Culture at the Great Courtyard of the Korean Independence Hall

The 2026 Cheonan K-Culture Expo will be held for five days, from Wednesday, September 2, through Sunday, September 6, at the Korean Independence Hall, 1 Dongnipgwan-ro, Mokcheon-eup, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungcheongnam-do. Because the expo weaves K-content into industry, exhibitions, performances, and hands-on activities against a setting symbolizing the spirit of independence, the contrast between the large outdoor stage in front of the historic buildings and the latest Korean Wave content was especially impressive. During the day, the main exhibition, K-Food Industry Exhibition Hall, K-Webtoon Industry Exhibition Hall, and K-POP pop-up exhibition operate from 10:00 to 19:00. The themed exhibition is titled ‘K-Lifestyle in Everyday Life Around the World,’ while the K-POP pop-up exhibition, ‘Be the K: K-Culture Hunters,’ lets visitors create their own idol IP through a seven-step AI experience. The Ice Cream & Ramen Festa features theme zones, photo zones, and on-site giveaway events using brand stories and products from major ice cream and ramen companies, making it a pleasant stop between exhibitions. Matching your visit to a performance date makes the trip feel more focused. The opening performance on September 2 features AlphaDrive One, Davichi, and Rescene; the K-ROCK concert on September 3 features 10CM and YB; and the K-OST concert on September 4 features Kim Na-young, MeloMance, and K.Will on the main stage at the Great Courtyard. On September 6, the Cheonan Foreigners’ Festival will be followed by the closing ceremony and celebratory closing performance, bringing the expo to an end with a scene in which people from various cultural communities in Korea enjoy K-culture together. 12 km from Cheonan Station and a direct package from Seoul Station: planning routes for international visitors

This is not an event you can walk to from a subway station. The Korean Independence Hall is 12 km from Cheonan Station, served by Seoul Subway Line 1, and takes about 40 minutes by city bus. From Cheonan-Asan Station, where KTX and SRT trains stop, it takes about 25 minutes by taxi. From in front of Cheonan Bus Terminal, it is also 14 km and about 40 minutes by city bus, so if you have set a performance time, it was more convenient to plan the round-trip travel time first. Official directions

During the event period, September 2–6, shuttle buses run from Wednesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 22:00 and on Sunday from 10:00 to 18:30. Route 1 goes to the Korean Independence Hall via Cheongsu-dong, Cheonan Station, and Cheonan Terminal; Route 2 passes Baekseok-dong and Cheonan-Asan Station; and Route 3 passes Dujeong-dong and Ssangyong-dong. The stop in front of the GS25 Cheonan Station branch across from Cheonan East Station and stop 2356 at Cheonan Terminal are also listed as boarding points for Route 1, so this route felt most practical for a friend staying near Cheonan Station. Official shuttle bus information

International visitors making a day trip from Seoul should take a look at the official shuttle package on the English booking page. You can choose a round-trip route from Seoul Station or Sports Complex Station to the Korean Independence Hall, make a reservation and cancel free of charge up to five days before departure, and receive immediate confirmation after payment. The official website offers Korean, English, Chinese, and Vietnamese menus, making it easy to read the basic information. Official shuttle booking page for international visitors

The hanbok experience zone operates at the information center from September 2–6, with booths related to K-POP, K-creators, K-goods, K-fashion, Hangul, and traditional culture. Comfortable sneakers and a portable charger were useful when moving around the expansive venue, and if you plan to watch the outdoor main-stage performances, it is a good idea to bring a light outer layer. Parking is available at the Korean Independence Hall’s main parking lot with 1,302 spaces and the Solsup Rest Area parking lot with 300 spaces, but on performance days, taking the shuttle felt more relaxing. Colt Show on September 5 and the 123,459-person Saturday in 2025: points to avoid in advance

If you want to see performances up close, choosing the date is most important. Reserved seats for the K-Radio live broadcast ‘Two O’Clock Escape Cultwo Show’ on September 5 are free, but reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of two tickets per person. The reservation period is from 17:00 on August 12 to 23:59 on August 17. Standing viewing is possible even without a reserved-seat ticket, but the audience entrance time will be announced separately, so if you succeed in reserving a ticket, it is safest to check again before setting out. Information on reserving Cultwo Show reserved seats

The September 3 K-ROCK concert is planned as a standing performance that engages with the audience, so if standing for a long time is difficult, it was better to enjoy the exhibitions first and join just before the performance began. The K-Culture NOW & NEW talk concerts will also be held at the Convention Hall of Gyeore Nuri Hall from 13:00 to 15:30 on September 3 and 5. On the 3rd, Monk Sunjae, Jeong Hye-gyeong, and Chae Jong-hun will discuss K-Food and K-POP; on the 5th, Gwedo, Oh Seung-hwan, and Kim Won-hoon will discuss the expandability of K-content, providing an option to rest indoors while listening. The crowds were not something to take lightly. On Saturday, June 7, 2025, 123,459 people visited the venue in a single day, distributed among the main stage, Welcome Zone, Univ Zone, Experience Zone, Food Zone, and Kids Zone. In 2026, Cheonan is also reviewing its transportation, safety, tourism, environmental, and food-service response systems, so on popular performance days, it is a good idea to move up your shuttle boarding and meal times rather than leaving them until just before the performance. Admission fees for the expo as a whole and payment methods for individual booths were not presented separately, and only the Cultwo Show reserved seats were announced as a free performance, so preparing both a card and some small cash would provide peace of mind. The two images below are photos from the 2025 venue. The viewing area in front of the lawn and the night scenery created by the drone show made it clear why it is worth moving early and preparing for the possibility of a long wait for popular stages.

K-Lifestyle’s seven stages and the Korean Independence Hall: who this trip suited

This expo was a good fit for friends who like K-POP but want to encounter food, webtoons, fashion, Hangul, and traditional culture along one route rather than simply listening to music and leaving. In particular, following the K-ICON costume competition held in the Welcome Zone and throughout the expo grounds on September 4–5, the hanbok experience at the information center, and the Univ Zone in the plaza in front of the Tower of the Nation made visitors feel as if they were stepping directly into the scene instead of merely looking around.

Thanks to its setting at the Korean Independence Hall, the event did not feel like a festival where modern K-culture suddenly appeared; rather, it felt like a day in which Korean history and today’s creative works were connected in one place. Choosing one performance date, viewing the exhibitions from 10:00 to 19:00 first, and then moving to the Great Courtyard around sunset made the day in Cheonan much more memorable.
