Best Time to Visit

To explore Asan Hyeonchungsa most comfortably, it is best to visit from spring to autumn (March to October). During this period, the site is open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, making it easy to plan your schedule.

The most recommended time of day is the morning. If you visit early, it is relatively quiet, allowing for a leisurely visit. On the other hand, weekends tend to be crowded with many visitors, so if possible, weekday mornings from Tuesday to Friday are the best.

When planning your visit, note that Mondays are closed, so avoid them.

How Long to Stay

If you tour Hyeonchungsa quickly, 50 minutes to 1 hour is enough. A typical visit that includes both the outdoor area and the memorial hall takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. If you plan to walk around slowly, take part in activities, or visit nearby attractions as well, allow about 2 to 2.5 hours.

How to Get There

Asan Hyeonchungsa is relatively easy to reach by public transportation. Foreign travelers usually find it most convenient to travel from Onyangoncheon Station or the Asan Onyang Intercity Bus Terminal.

How to Get There by Subway/Train

The most convenient starting point is Onyangoncheon Station. After leaving the station, transfer to a city bus. The collected information does not confirm the exit number, so please follow the station signs to the bus stop.

Take bus 900, 910, or 920 and ride to the Hyeonchungsa Terminal Stop; it takes about 20 minutes.

How to Get There by Bus

If you arrive at the Asan Onyang Intercity Bus Terminal, transfer to a city bus as well.

For Hyeonchungsa, buses 970 and 971 stop nearby, and you can get off at the Hyeonchungsa stop.

Walking

After getting off the bus, simply follow the signs and walk a short distance to the Hyeonchungsa entrance. Walking access is most commonly done after getting off the bus, and walking all the way directly from Onyangoncheon Station is not recommended because it is inefficient due to the distance.

• Side wall path beside the old house: In the section where the wall next to the old house and the plum trees continue, stand at an angle along the wall and photograph toward the old house; the flowers and hanok will come together naturally. Early morning to late morning offers vivid colors and a quiet atmosphere.
• Garden around the bantong pine: The garden with the transplanted bantong pine is a good place to highlight the unique shape of the tree. If you shoot from slightly below, looking up at the tree rather than straight on, the form appears more impressive. Late afternoon gives softer shadows and more depth.
• Tree-lined path in the spacious grounds: If you want to capture both the wide grounds of Hyeonchungsa and its well-tended trees, stand on the walking path so that the road leads into the frame and photograph straight ahead. In the morning, it is good for capturing a quiet atmosphere, and near sunset, for warm tones.

When the nightscape lighting comes on at Asan Hyeonchungsa, the serene old house and walking paths are softly illuminated, creating a calm atmosphere different from the daytime. Since the lights stay on at night, you can explore the area around the old house fairly comfortably, and there are also night lighting zones and photo spots themed around stars, the moon, and planets, making it great for photography.

The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed, and many families also visit. Rather than being intensely lit, the lighting is soft and warm, making it suitable for a slow walk. During cold weather, the night air can be chilly, so it is a good idea to prepare warm clothing.
