Gongsanseong Fortress was the representative mountain fortress that protected the royal capital during the Baekje Ungjin period (475~538), and it is an important historical site in Korea's ancient history. Located on a fortress-type mountain ridge and valley at an elevation of about 110 m along the Geumgang River in Gongju-si, Chungcheongnam-do, it is currently designated Historic Site No. 12. Inside the fortress, not only Baekje remains but also traces of Unified Silla and the Joseon period remain, including former gate sites, secret gates, defensive facilities, ponds, and building sites. Best Time to Visit

Gongju Gongsanseong can be visited year-round, but the most recommended seasons are spring and fall. The weather is pleasant for walking, making it easy to explore the fortress trail. How to Get There

Gongsanseong is located in the center of Gongju, so traveling from the bus terminal or Gongju Station is the most convenient. Foreign travelers can get there relatively easily via Daejeon.

Subway + Bus

Gongju does not have a subway station. The easiest way is to use the Daejeon subway and then transfer to a bus.

• Take Daejeon Urban Railroad Line 1 and get off at Guam Station or Hyunchungwon Station.
• From the station, move to the bus stop and take an intercity bus bound for Gongju.
• After arriving in Gongju city, get off at Gongju Intercity Bus Terminal.
• From the terminal to Gongsanseong, you can take a short taxi ride or transfer to a city bus.

Bus

• If departing from Seoul or another city, take an express bus or intercity bus to Gongju Intercity Bus Terminal.

If coming from Daejeon, it is also practical to take an intercity bus directly to Gongju city.

Walking

From Gongju Intercity Bus Terminal to Gongsanseong, the distance is a bit far, so it may feel long if you go only on foot. If you have luggage or if the weather is hot, a taxi or city bus is recommended.

If you are already in the center of Gongju city, you can head toward Gongsanseong along the roads around the Geumgang River. Local signs display Gongsanseong or Gongsanseong Fortress, so it is not difficult to find.

Train

• You can travel to Gongju Station by KTX or regular train.
• Since Gongsanseong is far from Gongju Station, using a taxi is the fastest option.
