According to Seoul City data, it opened in 1982 as the first station encountered after Line 2 crossed the Tancheon from Songpa-gu into Gangnam-gu. Its road-name address is 583, Teheran-ro, underground, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and it sits across the Teheran-ro / Yeongdong-daero intersection from the address often used by travelers for the COEX area, 513, Yeongdong-daero, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
The station name “Samseong” is unrelated to the Chinese characters for the conglomerate Samsung. Seoul City guidance explains the hanja for the station name as “三成,” and also notes that the station’s north side borders Samseong-dong and its south side borders Daechi-dong. Therefore, this place is more accurately understood not as a private station for a single company facility, but as a pedestrian node in eastern Gangnam where the trade center, exhibition halls, shopping mall, and business district intersect.
5 to 10 minutes from Exits 5 and 6 into COEX at 513 Yeongdong-daero
If your destination is COEX or Starfield COEX Mall, follow the direction of Exits 5 and 6 of Samseong Station on Line 2. COEX event information states that you enter through a passage directly connected to these two exits, pass Millennium Plaza, and proceed into Starfield COEX Mall; based on the guide materials, it takes about 5 to 10 minutes on foot to reach destinations inside COEX. In rain, extreme heat, or severe cold, this underground route is preferable to crossing at street level.
When your destinations differ, such as Starfield Library, the COEX exhibition hall, or food and beverage venues, you should check the signs again after entering the underground passage. COEX is a large complex venue for exhibitions and international conferences, and its main phone number is 02-6000-0114. Exhibition admission follows the ticket policy for each event rather than a separate entrance fee for Samseong Station or COEX itself, so it is necessary to confirm the event name and entry time on COEX’s official website on the day of your visit.
How to split your destination between Samseong Station Exits 5 and 6 and Bongeunsa Station Exit 7
For access to the west side of COEX, Exits 5 and 6 of Samseong Station are convenient, while access to the east side near ASEM Plaza has an alternative passage directly connected to Exit 7 of Bongeunsa Station on Line 9. When going from Samseong Station to an event hall inside the COEX Convention Center, the route passes through COEX Mall from Exits 5 and 6, so if you have a lot of luggage or it is your first visit, it is safer to allow an extra 10 minutes or more.
Outside Samseong Station, construction for a large underground mixed-use development along Yeongdong-daero continues, so routes and bus stop locations may change. At the Samseong Station stop designated by Gangnam-gu, several bus routes stop there, including 143, 146, 343, 350, 401, branch routes 2413, 3422, 4318, 4319, and village buses Gangnam01 and Gangnam06. Because there are multiple bus stops with the same name “Samseong Station,” it is a good idea to check the stop ID and travel direction together in your map app before boarding.
Avoiding the hours when commuter crowds and exhibition crowds overlap on a single island platform
Samseong Station has a structure in which a single island platform serves tracks in both directions. Seoul City’s explanation of the station renovation points out that there are no escalators on the stairs connecting the platform and the concourse, and that when passengers gather all at once, movement to the upper level may be delayed. On days when large exhibitions, concerts, or international conferences are held, it is necessary to separate the platform signs from the flow of people and move accordingly rather than heading straight to the exit after getting off the train.
Post-trip guidance identifies 08:00 to 09:00 and 18:00 to 19:00 on weekdays as crowded periods. This cannot be taken as an official congestion figure, but it is worth reflecting in your schedule that these hours overlap with commuting in the Teheran-ro business district and entry and exit for COEX events. If your main purpose is photography or visiting Starfield Library, it is better to choose a time that does not overlap with office crowds, such as weekday mornings or right after an exhibition opens.
Subway entry is free; train fares are paid separately based on the transportation card
Samseong Station is a railway station, so there is no separate admission fee or regular closing day for sightseeing. However, when you pass through the fare gates and use the train, public transit fares are charged according to distance traveled and the mode used, and it is difficult to describe the station operating hours like fixed opening hours for a tourist facility. For first and last train times and service changes due to construction, rallies, or other disruptions, the safest approach is to check Seoul Metro Cyber Station or Seoul City TOPIS right before departure.

The station notice states that the on-site customer service office is outside the fare gates on Basement Level 1 near Exits 1, 2, 7, and 8, so it is better to distinguish between purposes such as document issuance or district office civil service matters and simple subway movement.
Why wheelchair and stroller users should choose elevator locations on the map before departure
Seoul City explains in its subway accessibility guidance that almost all stations are accessible by elevator, but older stations may have elevators located far from the exits or may not connect directly to the platform in a single trip. At a place like Samseong Station, which has eight exits and connects to underground routes leading to COEX, wheelchair users, stroller users, and travelers with large suitcases should check both the Seoul Metro station map and the elevator icons in their map app rather than moving based only on exit numbers.
All Seoul Subway stations have platform screen doors, and trains provide space for wheelchairs and strollers. However, the stairs between the platform and the concourse at Samseong Station can become a bottleneck when crowded, so if you need assistance, use the station office at 02-6110-2191 or the call device inside the station. Station names are provided in Korean, English, and Chinese, so foreign visitors can confirm directions using the label “Samseong / 219 / Line 2.”
For private cars, start with COEX Basement Level 2 Purple Zone and 1,500 won per 15 minutes
Information on Samseong Station’s own parking lot is difficult to confirm separately, so if your destination is COEX, it is practical to plan based on the COEX parking lot. According to the 2026 COEX event FAQ, general parking is 3,000 won for the first 30 minutes, then 1,500 won per 15 minutes, and 60,000 won for a full-day pass; Hall A of the exhibition center is closest to the Purple Zone E, F, G, H, and I on Basement Level 2. Because official guidance repeatedly notes that parking can be crowded during exhibition periods, it is better to prioritize Line 2 Samseong Station or Line 9 Bongeunsa Station when visiting the COEX exhibition center. If you must arrive by private car, decide first on the hall location, expected entry time, and whether you need a full-day pass before departing. The underground passage connecting Exits 5 and 6 of Samseong Station to COEX is convenient for pedestrians, but it is separate from the vehicle drop-off point, so it is a good idea to decide where to meet the driver using the above-ground exit number as well.
