Muju Firefly Land is located at 1324 Museol-ro, Seolcheon-myeon, Muju-gun, Jeonbuk State, and its main telephone number is 063-324-1155. The official website is https://tour.muju.go.kr/bandiland/. The Insect Museum displays real specimens of insects from Korea and around the world, including fireflies, an environmental indicator species. It is a facility for collecting, preserving, exhibiting, educating about, and researching biological resources. Food, pets (except guide dogs), kickboards, bicycles, and strollers for infants may not be brought into the exhibition hall.

Insect Museum 09:00–18:00; ticket sales end at 17:00

The regular visiting hours for the Insect Museum are 09:00–18:00, and ticket sales end at 17:00. From November through February, the hours are shortened to 09:00–17:00, with ticket sales ending at 16:00. The museum is closed every Monday, January 1, Lunar New Year's Day, and the day of Chuseok. If Monday is a public holiday, it closes the following day.

Individual admission is 5,000 won for adults, 4,000 won for teenagers, and 3,000 won for children. Groups of 20 or more are classified as groups and require advance group reservations. The group rate is 4,000 won per adult and 2,400 won per child. Adult residents of Muju County pay 3,500 won, and children pay 2,100 won. These rates are current as of August 2026.

Why the 660-square-meter ecological greenhouse is shaped like a volcanic crater

The ecological greenhouse has an indoor area of 660 square meters, and its basic form is modeled on a volcanic crater. More than 200 species and approximately 10,000 plants grow inside, allowing visitors to see plant exhibits regardless of the season. The official description introduces it as an ecological greenhouse where flowers bloom throughout the year.

Heating, humidification, ventilation, and watering in the greenhouse are automated. Therefore, subtropical plants can be seen even when outdoor temperatures are low, but visitors should check on-site whether the greenhouse's visiting area and hours are the same as those of the Insect Museum. If you want to see both plants and insects in one visit, it is safest to arrive during the Insect Museum's operating hours.

An aqua zone ranging from Deogyusan fish to tropical fish

At the Insect Museum's aqua zone, visitors can see fish living from the uppermost reaches of Deogyusan Mountain to the mouth of the Geumgang River. The exhibits also include otters and tropical fish, so the route does not end with fireflies and insects alone.

On weekends and public holidays, scheduled commentary is provided four times a day at 11:00, 13:00, 14:00, and 15:00. Reserved commentary runs from 10:30 to 16:30 Tuesday through Friday, with a break from 12:00 to 13:00. Since the operation of English commentary or an audio guide was not confirmed in the official information, foreign visitors may find it practical to prepare a translation app.

The Astronomy Science Museum opens after 13:00; nighttime observations vary by season

The Astronomy Science Museum operates from 13:00 to 22:00 from March through October and from 13:00 to 21:00 from November through February. Ticket sales begin at 13:00 and remain available until one hour before closing. Individual exhibition hall admission is 3,000 won for adults, 2,000 won for teenagers, and 1,000 won for children. The adult fee for the individual astronomical observation program is 2,000 won.

Daytime observations take place monthly during either 13:30–14:20 and 14:30–15:20 or 14:00–14:50 and 15:00–15:50. Nighttime observations are held from 19:00 to 19:50 from November through February and from 20:00 to 20:50 from March through October. To visit the Insect Museum first and then use the Astronomy Science Museum, you need an itinerary that begins in the afternoon and continues through the nighttime program.

The four-season sledding area stops from 12:00 to 13:00

The four-season sledding area normally operates from 10:00 to 17:00 and during peak season from 09:30 to 17:30. Operations stop from 12:00 to 13:00 and from 15:00 to 15:20 for equipment inspections. Individual admission is 7,000 won for adults, 6,000 won for teenagers, and 5,000 won for children. The child category covers children from 36 months old through elementary school age.

Ticket sales stop when it snows or rains and may also stop if the waiting line becomes too long. Muju County residents receive a 30% discount on the one-day admission fee for the water playground and four-season sledding area by presenting identification. Because the weather and line length can affect availability, visitors who only plan to use the Insect Museum and those who plan to sled should consider separate itineraries.

How to combine the July–August water playground with lodging facilities

The outdoor water playground operates from 10:00 to 17:00 in July and August, but its actual operating period and hours may change flexibly depending on the temperature. Admission includes use of auxiliary facilities such as the shower rooms. The water playground, four-season sledding area, and Insect Museum are closed every Monday, January 1, Lunar New Year's Day, and the day of Chuseok. If Monday is a public holiday, they close the following day.

Firefly Land operates log cabins, a youth campground, and the Muju Firefly Youth Training Center. Log cabin use is from 15:00 until 11:00 the following day, while the youth campground is available from 14:00 until 12:00 the following day. Since the official information does not confirm the lodging reservation process or number of rooms, those planning to stay overnight should first inquire at 063-324-1155.

Visitor rules that first-time foreign visitors may easily miss

Strollers and wheelchairs can be rented at the Insect Museum information desk, but rented equipment may be used only inside the museum. The museum has an infant rest room, nursing area, diaper-changing table, microwave, and water purifier, so visitors with babies and young children can use these facilities.

Camera flashes and tripods are prohibited in the exhibition rooms. All areas of Firefly Land are non-smoking, and bringing food or beverages into the exhibition halls is prohibited. The official information does not confirm parking availability or fees, public transportation stops, bus routes, walking times, English information, or audio-guide availability. The official driving route from Seoul passes through Daejeon, Geumsan, Muju Interchange, Muju, and Seolcheon-myeon; from Jeonju it passes along National Route 26, Jinan, Ancheon, Muju, and Seolcheon-myeon; and from Busan it passes through Yeongdong, Muju, and Seolcheon-myeon.

Choosing admission options when visiting the Insect Museum and Astronomy Science Museum together

The Insect Museum and Astronomy Science Museum accept the Firefly Travel Pass. The pass is used within the time option purchased, based on the time of the first admission check. It is for one person only, and partial refunds or partial cancellations are not possible. Therefore, you should first coordinate the operating hours of both facilities before purchasing.

During the day, schedule the Insect Museum visit from 09:00 to 18:00 along with the ecological greenhouse and aqua zone, then move to the Astronomy Science Museum, which opens at 13:00, in the afternoon. Some reviews mention spending approximately one hour at Muju Firefly Land, but the stay becomes longer if you add the sledding area or nighttime astronomical observation.
