Jeonju Movie Street is a permanently open street stretching from the Jeonju Ogeori Cinema Tower to the Jeonju Film Production Center. It is a place where memories of the 1950s cinema district overlap with screenings, exhibitions, and alley screenings of the Jeonju International Film Festival. The Area Stretching from Jeonju Ogeori Movie Tower to the Jeonju Film Production Center
Jeonju Movie Street was named as the street stretching from the Jeonju Ogeori Movie Tower to the Jeonju Film Production Center, between Paldal-ro, Daedong-gil, and Chunggyeong-ro. Therefore, it is more accurate to understand it not as a single building or paid exhibition hall, but as an urban space where cinemas, landmarks, structures, and film-related institutions are connected.
The street is open at all times and is described as operating year-round. Since no official admission fee for the street itself has been confirmed, a walk along Movie Street can be planned without a separate admission ticket. However, tickets for individual screenings are required to enter indoor facilities such as the Jeonju Digital Independent Cinema and watch a film.
Gosa-dong’s Theater District, Transformed from the 1920s to the 1990s
Jeonju’s film culture and sense of place developed from the 1920s through the 1990s. Research explains that a theater district was formed around Gosa-dong from the 1920s to the 1950s, that Jeonju had the highest concentration of theaters in the country, and that it was a center of the film industry in the 1950s.
During the 1960s and 1970s, large theaters and 70 mm projectors were central, while in the 1980s and 1990s, theater formats changed to small cinemas and multiplexes. The reason several screening venues and film-related institutions appear concentrated in one area today is that changes in this theater district combined with the relocation and establishment of film institutions after the 2000s.
Jeonju’s Film Culture Created by Cinemas, a DVD Reading Room, and a Production Center
Jeonju Movie Street’s film culture goes beyond simple viewing and is divided into sharing, criticism, and production. Film festivals, cinemas, and the DVD reading room belong to sharing culture, while magazines, social media, and books were introduced as media of film criticism.
Education, production, and post-production are categorized as production culture. The Jeonju Film Production Center, the key indoor space on the street, houses the Jeonju Digital Independent Cinema, which is located on the fourth floor of the Jeonju Film Production Center. Rather than looking only at the building exterior and turning back, remember first that the screening theater is on the fourth floor if you want to watch a film.
Film Festival Routes from April 29 to May 8, 2026
The 27th Jeonju International Film Festival was held from April 29 to May 8, 2026. The opening ceremony was on April 29, the awards ceremony on May 5, and the closing ceremony on May 8. The official program consisted of 237 films from 54 countries, including 97 domestic films and 140 international films, and screenings were held across 21 screens at five theaters.
Movie Street was included among the venues for the 100 Films 100 Posters exhibition and other events, while alley screenings were also presented as a program operating in the alleys of Movie Street. During this period, audience-participation events and promotional booths were planned around Movie Street, so visitors needed to consider event routes and waiting crowds rather than treating the visit as an ordinary downtown walk.
Rules That Are Easy to Miss When Entering the Jeonju Digital Independent Cinema
During the film festival, the general screening venues included the Jeonju Digital Independent Cinema, CGV Jeonju Gosa, Megabox Jeonju Gaeksa, and Jeonbuk National University Samsung Culture Center. Online reservations allowed a maximum of two tickets per transaction and supported only credit cards, debit cards, and easy payment; bank transfers and mobile micropayments were unavailable.
Tickets could be reserved until 10 minutes before the screening, and cancellations were permitted only until 60 minutes beforehand. After the festival opening day, a cancellation fee of KRW 1,000 per ticket was charged. Because screenings began on time, entry was restricted after 10 minutes had passed, and films sold out online could not be purchased on site either. This is why viewing only the posters on Movie Street and attending a film screening should not be treated as the same kind of schedule.
159 m from Gonggugeori Bus Stop and 175 m from Bukmun Bus Stop
When traveling by public transportation, it is practical to first arrive in Jeonju at places such as Jeonju Station or Jeonju Express Bus Terminal and then set a nearby Movie Street bus stop as the destination in a map app. The bus stop number for Gonggugeori·Sangjin Credit Union·Movie Street is 30721, approximately 159 m from the street, and buses 6 and 6-1 operate there.
The bus stop number for Bukmun·Movie Street is 30694, approximately 175 m away, and buses 6-1, 8-2, 102, 165, 430, and 500 operate there. The Jeonbuk Bank Gyeongwon Branch·Movie Street bus stop is 30701, approximately 180 m away, and buses 61, 383, 385, 386, 420, and 430 stop there. Routes may change, so it is safer to check both the bus stop number and the direction of arrival rather than memorizing only the bus numbers.
During the Film Festival, Public Transportation Is Better Than Ogeori Public Parking
The number of spaces and fees for regular parking directly on Movie Street have not been confirmed. During the film festival, vehicle traffic around theaters and event venues may be extremely congested, and theater parking may be difficult to use because of increased attendance. Official guidance therefore recommends public transportation or allowing plenty of extra time.
During the film festival, Ogeori Public Parking is available from 10:00 to 23:00, with a 50% discount for ticket holders. Visitors who watched festival screenings at CGV Jeonju Gosa or Megabox Jeonju Gaeksa could register for up to three hours of free parking at the information desk at each venue; after that, KRW 1,500 was charged per 30 minutes. Temporary free parking lots were also listed at Jeonju Elementary School, Jungbu Church, Seongam Church, Seomun Church, Zionseong Church, Jungang Adventist Church, and the riverside parking lot at Nambu Market, but the number of spaces and operating hours may change according to each parking lot’s circumstances.
How to Keep the Address, Phone Number, and Operating Hours at Hand

The street itself is described as open at all times and operating year-round, but screening and ticketing hours at the Jeonju Digital Independent Cinema and film festival venues are separate. As of 2026, festival on-site ticket booths operated at six locations: J Lounge, CGV Jeonju Gosa, Megabox Jeonju Gaeksa, Jeonju Digital Independent Cinema, Jeonbuk National University Samsung Culture Center, and the Korea Sori Culture Center. J Lounge operated from 09:00 to 20:00 from April 30 to May 5, from 09:00 to 18:00 on May 6–7, and from 09:00 to 12:00 on May 8. The CGV Jeonju Gosa ticket booth was on the first floor of the building, while the Megabox Jeonju Gaeksa ticket booth was on the second floor.
