How Long to Stay

Sangmujigu is a downtown commercial district, so if you only cover the main highlights, 1 to 2 hours is enough; if you also enjoy meals, cafes, and shopping, about half a day is appropriate. If you combine it with nearby spots such as Gwangju Airport and Yu Square (about 10 minutes by taxi), or Gwangju Songjeong Station (about 15 minutes), it is convenient to make it part of a one-day itinerary.

How to Get There

Sangmujigu is located around Chipyeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City. For foreign travelers, using the subway or bus is the most convenient.

Subway

Take Gwangju Metro Line 1 and get off at Sangmu Station. Usually, using Exit 5 or Exit 6 is convenient for heading toward the center of Sangmujigu. After leaving the station, walk along the main road, and it takes about 10 to 15 minutes on foot to reach the main streets of Sangmujigu.

Bus

From the Nonghyup Uncheon Branch Stop, you can take Seat Bus No. 2 toward Sangmujigu. According to the original information, this route runs toward Sangmu Sculpture Park. Seat buses are more expensive than regular buses, so prepare cash or a transit card in advance.

The service interval is about 30 to 50 minutes, and the first bus is listed as 06:00. Since intervals can be long, it is best to check real-time arrival information in a map app.

On Foot

If you start from Sangmu Station, the easiest way is to walk from the station exit along the main road toward the center of Chipyeong-dong. The roads are relatively flat and wide, so walking is not difficult. If you get off the bus, you can also walk from around Sangmu Sculpture Park to the center of Sangmujigu.

If you are not comfortable with Korean, it helps to show your destination written as "Sangmujigu" or "Chipyeong-dong".

Photo Spots

Night View

The representative place to enjoy the night view in Sangmu-district is Mugaksa Temple. The dark night sky and the temple lights blend together to create a calm yet impressive atmosphere.
