How 3.43㎢ of greenhouse farmland became an ecological park in 2009
Daejeo Ecological Park is situated on the right bank of the Nakdong River in Daejeo 1-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan. It covers 3.43㎢ and stretches 7.62 km. The park extends from Daejeo Water Gate to the Gimhae Airport Ramp, while the area downstream of Gupo Bridge borders the Nakdong River Estuary Migratory Bird Habitat, Natural Monument No. 179.
The wide grasslands and wetlands seen today were originally greenhouse farmland. The Nakdong River Management Headquarters of Busan City explains that it began removing the greenhouses and renovating the area in 2009 as a leading project of the Four Rivers Restoration Project. Sports facilities were installed in parts of the upper and lower sections, while the remaining areas were restored as wetlands and natural grasslands.

Spring walking route through the 370,000㎡ canola landscape complex from Sugwan Bridge to Gupo Bridge
The canola flower complex stretches from Sugwan Bridge to Gupo Bridge and officially covers 370,000㎡. Canola, wheat, and barley are planted as landscape crops to create viewing areas, while the site is managed to provide food and resting places for winter migratory birds. The area described as 760,000㎡ in past reports reflects period-specific figures that broadly calculated the festival and viewing zones, so it is more accurate to distinguish those figures from the 370,000㎡ listed in current park information.
Rather than planning a long stay focused solely on spring flowers, it is practical to allow 1.5 to 2 hours to combine the flower area with the riverside path. In spring 2026, the Gangseo Nakdong River 30-ri Cherry Blossom Festival was held from April 3 to 5 at Daejeo Ecological Park and along the embankment. Before setting out in a future spring, check the Nakdong River Management Headquarters announcements again for the festival dates, traffic controls, and flowering conditions.

The season for encountering colonies of prickly water lilies at Sindeok Wetland beneath Sugwan Bridge
Sindeok Wetland, north of the flower complex, is located beneath Sugwan Bridge and covers 258,004㎡. It is described as being relatively deeper than other wetlands and as a site where large colonies of prickly water lilies, an endangered wildlife Class II species, grow. Reed, wild rice, cattail, and willow communities dominate the area, allowing visitors to observe wetland vegetation distinct from the canola fields.
This section is a habitat for living organisms rather than a walking area centered on landscape crops. Accordingly, visitors should avoid entering beyond the trails and maintain a sufficient distance so as not to disturb migratory birds or wetland plants, rather than moving through the area with flowers as a backdrop. Some sections have little shade from the sun in summer, so bringing a hat and water is advisable.

Eight minutes from Exit 2 of Gangseo-gu Office Station on Line 3 to Sindeok Village
By public transportation, use Exit 2 of Gangseo-gu Office Station on Busan Metro Line 3. From the Gangseo-gu Office Station bus stop behind the exit, transfer to Gangseo-gu 11, Gangseo-gu 13, 307, 1009-1, or 1012, get off at the Sindeok Village bus stop, and walk for approximately 8 minutes. Because the park stretches 7.62 km, you should decide on your destination—among the canola flower complex, Sindeok Wetland, and sports facilities—before arriving.
Visitors arriving by car can set “Daejeo Ecological Park Parking Lot” as their destination. However, during flower festivals or major events, congestion at specific parking lots, entry controls, and temporary routes may change. Daejeo Ecological Park is both a walking park and a space for community sports. It has three soccer fields, two baseball fields, eight basketball courts, eight tennis courts, three gateball courts, one inline skating rink, and three park golf courses. The park golf facilities consist of one 18-hole, one 27-hole, and one 45-hole course, with a total area listed as 50,821㎡.
The sports facilities cannot simply be used on arrival. According to the official information, visitors must submit a reservation request on a first-come, first-served basis before using them, and reservations are available from one month before the intended date of use. After rain, the park golf courses may close because of surface conditions or standing water.
