Where did the name Beomcheondong Hocheon Village come from?

Hocheon Village is a hillside-road village in Beomcheondong, Busanjin-gu, Busan. Busan City and the Busan Tourism Organization explain that it was named “Hocheon (Tiger Stream)” based on stories that the terrain was rugged in the past and tigers often appeared.

This place name is also connected to why tiger images are displayed throughout the village today. Tiger murals have been created on residential walls, and this mural street is signposted as “Eoseulleong Horaengi-gil.”

Taking Bus 87 from across from Seomyeon Lotte Department Store

Travelers visiting Busan for the first time can use the bus stop across from Lotte Department Store Busan Main Store in Seomyeon as their starting point. Official guidance recommends taking Bus 87 from here and getting off at “Hocheon Village Entrance.”

The address of Hocheon Village is 491 Eomgwang-ro, Busanjin-gu, Busan (Beomcheondong). The Korea Tourism Organization states that there is no parking lot in the village, so taking a bus or taxi is more practical than renting a car; the current interval between Bus 87 services could not be confirmed from the available guidance.

Why walking downhill from the top is easier than climbing

Because Hocheon Village is located on hillside roads, it has many uphill sections and stairs. Busan tourism guidance recommends taking a village bus or taxi to the upper area and then walking downhill while viewing the alleys and scenery, rather than walking up from below.

A sloped elevator has also been installed to assist residents and visitors. However, official materials do not separately specify the areas of Hocheon Village accessible to wheelchairs or strollers, so the entire route should not be assumed to be flat, especially since it includes 180 stairs and sloping paths.

Finding the blue tiles at the 180 Stairs beside Baekyong Supermarket

There are “180 Stairs” beside Baekyong Supermarket in Hocheon Village. Blue tile murals continue along the stairs, creating the appearance of a waterfall, with carp swimming upstream and fully bloomed lotus flowers depicted.

When looking for the stairs, it is better to use Baekyong Supermarket as a landmark rather than search only for the name. The stairs are both a photo spot and an actual route used by residents, so it is important not to block passageways or occupy the stair railings and entrances to homes.

How to see a recreation of Namil Bar at the Hocheon Culture Platform

The Hocheon Culture Platform is located at the rooftop park of the Manri-san public parking lot at 491 Eomgwang-ro, Busanjin-gu, Busan. It is introduced as a space that exhibits and sells works by local handicraft artists and offers cultural experiences and education. It also includes a recreated space modeled on “Namil Bar” from the drama.

However, the information page lists the Hocheon Culture Platform’s hours as 10:00–22:00 while also stating that operations are currently temporarily suspended. If the soju-bottle lights, vintage props, or “Youth Is About Getting into Trouble” photo zone in the recreated space are your main destinations, check this operating status first.

Why can’t visitors enter the real Namil Bar from the 2017 drama?

One reason Hocheon Village became widely known is the drama Fight for My Way, which aired in 2017. After being introduced as a filming location for the production, the village’s hillside roads and alleys became a reason for drama fans to visit.

However, the actual Namil Bar filming location in the drama is the rooftop of a private home. Therefore, the actual filming house is a place to view from outside, not a tourist facility that visitors may enter. When taking photographs or visiting, do not infringe on residents’ privacy or residential space.

Current information on the Hocheon Living Culture Center and “Kkeuti” Café

The address of the Hocheon Living Culture Center is 36 Eomgwang-ro 495beonga-gil, Busanjin-gu, Busan, and its listed hours are 09:00–21:00. The center operates a village health center and is introduced as a place where visitors can take a short rest.

The café inside the center is called “Kkeuti,” a Busan dialect word meaning “end.” It is said to have been named because it is located at the end of Hocheon Village, and the center is introduced as offering hand-drip coffee experiences. However, according to the Busan City Bulletin, the café inside the Hocheon Culture Platform was not operating on January 19, 2026.

The route down to the Disaster Prevention Park and Eoseulleong Art Museum

Hocheon Village Disaster Prevention Park is a 242-square-meter space built where two vacant homes were demolished. It is the first project of the “15-Minute Healing Park Development Project,” designed for everyday use as a resting area and for emergency use in connection with firefighting facilities.

There is also the “Eoseulleong Art Museum” beside Hogyecheon Stream. Calligraphy works made directly by village residents to help revive Hogyecheon Stream are displayed along the wooden deck in front of Cheonil Senior Center in Beomcheon 2-dong. This allows visitors to see the area’s local everyday history more closely than by following a route that only views the murals.

Enjoying free night views while respecting the residential village

Hocheon Village as a whole is listed as open year-round, at all times, and free of charge. The densely packed homes on the hillside and Busan’s downtown nightscape are its signature views, and Busan tourism guidance explains that evening is the best time to visit for the night scenery.

However, official materials do not separately state recommended visiting hours for the entire village, photography restrictions, or whether English guidance and audio guides are available. Hocheon Village is a place where residents actually live, so keep voices and flash photography to a minimum at night, and explore without entering the interiors of homes or the actual house used as the Namil Bar filming location. About 300 meters from the Hocheon Culture Platform, there was a banner introducing the newly opened “Starlight Café” as of January 19, 2026.
