Twice Wins the U.S. ‘American Music Awards’ for the First Time by a K-Pop Girl Group… World-Class Moves

Group TWICE won the honor of receiving an award at the American Music Awards (AMA) as the first K-pop girl group ever.

TWICE received the Best Female K-pop Artist award at the American Music Awards (AMA), held on the 25th of last month (local time) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, USA.

At the AMA ceremony, one of the three major music award shows in the United States along with the Grammy Awards and Billboard Music Awards, TWICE received its first trophy on its second nomination.

Since the winner is decided 100% by fan votes, this award proves TWICE's popularity and influence. TWICE has been carrying out its world tour < THIS IS FOR > (This Is For), which began in Incheon last July and spans a total of 78 shows across 43 cities worldwide.

The North American tour, which concluded in April, was held 35 times in 20 cities and drew a cumulative audience of 550,000, making TWICE the K-pop girl group with the largest audience ever in North America. In Japan, it became the first overseas artist to draw 240,000 fans over three days at Tokyo National Stadium.

Now in its 12th year since debut, TWICE is currently on its European tour. It has completed performances in Lisbon, Barcelona, Paris, Turin, Berlin, and Cologne, and is set to perform in Amsterdam on the 30th and 31st.

Meanwhile, at this AMA, TWICE won the grand prize category of Artist of the Year for the second time overall with its fifth full-length album, Arirang, released in March.
