[Sports Seoul | Reporter Kim Mi-young] Actor So Ji-sub is once again proving his brand power with SBS’s ‘Kim Bu-jang,’ his first drama comeback in four years, while the drama is receiving overwhelming support from movie fans.

According to an online movie community on the 29th, movie fans added ‘Kim Bu-jang’ to their must-watch list, saying, “It’s the time for repayment of kindness.” Ahead of the broadcast, posts encouraging viewers to watch began pouring in across various online communities, such as “So Ji-sub, the savior of movie fans, one hour before the live broadcast” and “If you’re a movie buff, you have to watch the live broadcast.”

Aside from his acting career, So Ji-sub has participated as an investor in film import and distribution companies since 2014, consistently bringing independent and art films from overseas. Starting with ‘The Miracle of Philomena,’ he introduced films such as ‘The Secret Garden of Madame Prust,’ ‘Hereditary,’ ‘Midsommar,’ and ‘The Zone of Interest’ to Korea, earning love from movie fans as a film investor.

In a past interview, he explained the reason for his involvement, saying, “I started this with the intention of introducing good films to Korean audiences rather than pursuing commercial profit,” and “I regretted that independent films and art films had few opportunities to be introduced in Korea.”

However, he also expressed the difficulties, saying, “Honestly, it is tough. The losses are really big, and I end up in the red. I never thought I would keep doing this for so long,” while also revealing his determination as an investor: “Even if I keep losing money, I still want to continue doing it.”

Meanwhile, ‘Kim Bu-jang’ recorded a viewership rating of over 18% after just two episodes, drawing attention as SBS’s biggest hit since the 2021 drama ‘Penthouse.’
