Oscar Awards Best Original Song winner Lee Jae drew attention with an outfit that highlighted Korean traditional beauty.

Lee Jae won the Best Original Song at the 98th Academy Awards held on the 15th (local time) for the Netflix animation 'K-Pop Demon Hunters'.

On the day, Lee Jae performed the OST 'Golden' in a celebratory stage with Audrey Nuna and Ray Ami, and wore a custom dress by a Korean designer brand based on the Daehan Jeguk imperial court ceremonial robe. The brand responsible for the outfit, 'Reju (LEJE)', is known for clothing collaborations that incorporate Korean identity with artists such as Jennie.

Reju explained via official social media that this outfit visualizes the 'shining moment' mentioned in 'Golden' and is a work completed within the brand's philosophy of connecting the time of tradition with a modern sensibility.

The brand said it placed Korea's national flower, Mugunghwa, at the center of the outfit to symbolize eternity, tenacity, and life, and extended the meaning around it by continuing the dangchomun (vine motif), which signifies life and prosperity.

It also stated that based on pure white, symbolizing the Baekui Minjok, it expressed the symbol of 'light' with gilt bronze ornaments that evoke the golden crowns of ancient Korea. The metal decorations were made using traditional methods and were completed by the hands of a duseokjang artisan.

Reju conveyed the message that a 'shining moment' is born within the time one finds their own path rather than being created instantly, and congratulated Lee Jae on the award.

Through 'Golden', Lee Jae is being credited with introducing the K-pop genre to the world while also imprinting Korean traditional aesthetics on a global audience with an outfit inspired by the Daehan Jeguk ceremonial robe on the Academy Awards celebratory stage.
