IU Releases a New Song After a Year… Kim Yeong-ok Appears in the Music Video

According to her agency EDAM Entertainment on the 10th, IU will release her new digital single ‘From This Star’ at 6 p.m. that day. The single includes ‘From This Star’ and ‘Dear My Crazy Soulmate’ as double title tracks, and IU wrote the lyrics for both songs herself.

In particular, this new release is meaningful because it is her first new music in about a year since ‘Bye, Summer,’ released last September, and because it previews part of her upcoming sixth full-length album. Rather than being a one-off single, it serves as the first clue to the musical direction and narrative of her next full-length album.

The music video for ‘Dear My Crazy Soulmate’ will also be released on the day of the single’s release. In the teaser unveiled at midnight that day, IU and actress Shim Dal-gi appear as police officers, while actress Kim Young-ok makes an unexpected appearance as another character, creating a strong narrative atmosphere even within the short video.

As scenes showing the relationships among the three characters rapidly becoming entangled unfold from the moment a window shatters, anticipation is also building for the full version, which is structured more like a short story than a simple performance-style music video.

The music video for the other title track, ‘From This Star,’ will be released at midnight on the 16th. Releasing the song and music videos at different times is also being interpreted as a move to sustain interest over a longer period leading up to her sixth full-length album.
