Chaebol IU and Royal Byeon Woo-seok, Fashion Goes to the Extremes… Visual Couple Preview (Daegunbuin)

(Xportsnews Jeong Min-gyeong Reporter) 'Wannabe royal couple' IU and Byun Woo-seok tease viewers with glamorous and elegant fashion.

The leads IU (as Seong Hee-ju) and Byun Woo-seok (as Ian Daegun) of MBC's new Fri-Sat drama "21st Century Grand Princess," which will premiere on Friday, April 10, revealed their characters' styling concepts themselves.

IU, who plays Seong Hee-ju, said, "Seong Hee-ju is a chaebol family member and at the same time a character who has the aspect of a celebrity that draws attention and creates buzz wherever she goes," adding, "Her basic style is a CEO-like suit and a sharp parting, but sometimes I deliberately stepped away from TPO with bold colors, light dresses, jeans with red sneakers, and so on. I considered as many styling variations as possible so that within the drama's world they could draw attention."

Byun Woo-seok explained the behind-the-scenes process of crafting Ian Daegun's styling concept: "We started from the assumption that the royal family has continued to the present day, and tried to capture a mix of the modern, developed era we live in and traditional beauty. I consulted with the costume team, tried on clothes to get ideas, and shaped the style that way," he said.

In fact, Byun Woo-seok personally took part in costume production to realize the constitutional monarchy setting, repeatedly deliberating and adding detailed opinions.

In the released photos, Seong Hee-ju (played by IU) shows a CEO's presence with suits in various colors that combine intensity and elegance, and demonstrates the character's fashion sense through various combinations such as everyday hanbok and floral shoes, and jeans with red sneakers.

Ian Daegun (played by Byun Woo-seok) emphasizes an elegant yet vintage charm with outfits that reinterpret hanbok—such as cheollik, jeogori, and durumagi—in a modern way, and with suit-type pieces like shirts and jackets that incorporate traditional elements such as silk and otgoreum (coat ribbons) and dongjeong (detachable white collar).

IU and Byun Woo-seok plan to heighten immersion in the constitutional monarchy world of "21st Century Grand Princess" through detailed styling and character settings, and they said viewers can look forward to transformations that will target different tastes each episode with various fashions.
