BTS 'Swim' tops Billboard Hot 100, dominates U.S. singles and albums charts (Comprehensive)

[Seoul=Newsis] Reporter Lee Jae-hoon = Global supergroup Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS) has taken the No.1 spot on the US Billboard main singles chart, the "Hot 100," with the title track "Swim (SWIM)" from their fifth full-length album "Arirang (arirang)."

According to a Billboard chart preview article, "Swim" rose to the top of the Hot 100 for the April 4 issue, marking Bangtan Sonyeondan's seventh overall No.1 on the Hot 100.

Starting with "Dynamite" (the first Korean artist to reach No.1), they added No.1 hits with "Life Goes On" (the first Korean-language song to reach No.1), "Butter," "Permission to Dance," "Savage Love" (collaboration), and "My Universe" (collaboration), and now "Swim."

With the fifth full-length album "Arirang" also reaching No.1 on Billboard's main album chart, the Billboard 200, they simultaneously topped both main singles and albums charts with the new release. "Arirang" is Bangtan Sonyeondan's seventh No.1 album on the Billboard 200.

Billboard said that with this achievement Bangtan Sonyeondan became the group with the most Hot 100 No.1s since the Bee Gees in the 1970s, roughly half a century later. The record for most group No.1s was listed as The Beatles (20 songs), The Supremes (12 songs), followed by the Bee Gees and The Rolling Stones (8 songs each).

The Hot 100 is compiled by combining US streaming (audio and video), radio airplay, and sales data. "Swim" is the 1,190th No.1 song in Hot 100 history and the 88th "Hot Shot" to debut at No.1 on the chart.

From its release on the 20th through the 26th, "Swim" recorded 15.3 million streams in the US, 25.8 million radio audience impressions, and 154,000 in sales (combined digital and physical singles). Included in the sales were two CD single versions (including an instrumental version) and seven digital singles featuring individual member cover art.

It also ranked No.2 on Streaming Songs, No.18 on Radio Songs, and No.1 on Digital Song Sales.

Billboard added that as solo acts, Jimin ("Like Crazy") and Jungkook ("Seven") have also reached No.1 on the Hot 100.

"Swim" is the first song with the word "Swim" in its title to reach No.1 on the Hot 100; the previous highest-charting related song was Bobby Freeman's 1964 "Come On and Swim," which peaked at No.5.

Meanwhile, the fictional girl group Huntrix's song "Golden," from the Netflix animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters" OST, was No.6 on this week's Hot 100 (down one spot from the previous week), having accumulated eight weeks at No.1 overall and remaining on the chart for 40 weeks. Billboard noted that in the past four years the groups to reach No.1 on the Hot 100 were Bangtan Sonyeondan and Huntrix, and both are associated with K-Pop.
