Walking Ulsan Arboretum at the Foot of Daeunsan on 1- and 2-Hour Routes
Ulsan Arboretum is a public arboretum operated by Ulsan Metropolitan City at the foot of Daeunsan in Onyang-eup, Ulju-gun. From Site Confirmation in 2014 to the Management Office Opening in 2020
Ulsan Arboretum is a public arboretum operated by Ulsan Metropolitan City. The site for its planned development was confirmed on September 12, 2014, and after the basic plan was established from January through September 2015, it was designated as a planned arboretum site on February 26, 2016.
The arboretum development plan was approved and publicly announced on February 23, 2017. Construction began on January 25, 2018, and was completed on July 31, 2019. The current management system was established when the Arboretum Management Office opened on January 1, 2020.
The site lies on the slopes of 742-meter-high Mount Daeunsan, at the boundary of Ulju-gun, Yangsan City, and Gijang-gun, Busan. It was developed as a space for collecting, displaying, and researching warm-temperate and cold-temperate tree species, making use of the terrain extending along Naewonam Valley and oak forests.
Why It Closes at 18:00 from April to October, with Admission Until 17:00
During the summer season, from April through October, it operates from 09:00 to 18:00, with admission closing at 17:00. During the winter season, from November through March, it operates from 09:00 to 17:00, with admission closing at 16:00. Therefore, if you plan to take the longer two-hour course, you should arrive with plenty of time before the closing admission time.
The arboretum as a whole is generally open year-round, but the exhibition greenhouse is closed on January 1, the day of Seollal, and the day of Chuseok. Admission and parking are both free. Inquiries about operating status or group tour approval can be made by calling the Arboretum Management Office at 052-229-8588.

One-Hour Round Trip to the Exhibition Greenhouse, Two Hours to Pascal Fragrance Garden
The official one-hour round-trip course starts at the Arboretum Management Office, passes in order through the Silver Grass Garden, Camellia Garden, Bamboo Garden, Aquatic Plant Garden, Five Senses Therapy Garden, and exhibition greenhouse, and returns to the management office. If you have limited time or are visiting with a stroller, this route is the better basis for your itinerary.
The official two-hour round-trip course adds the Rock Garden, Flowering Tree Garden, Hosta Garden, Lawn Garden, and Pascal Fragrance Garden after the management office and exhibition greenhouse. Since the itinerary involves walking through a large area, prepare water and comfortable shoes. During winter, you must arrive before admission closes at 16:00.
The grounds are divided into the Meeting District, Education District, Research, Observation and Plant District, and Central District. The Education District contains the Camellia Garden, Bamboo Garden, Aquatic Plant Garden, and exhibition greenhouse, while the Central District contains the Daylily Garden, Chrysanthemum Garden, Rare Plant Garden, Fern Garden, and Red Spider Lily Garden.
100 Meters from Daeunsan Public Parking Lot to the Entrance
Vehicles cannot enter the arboretum, so visitors must use Daeunsan Public Parking Lot at the arboretum entrance. This public parking lot is free, and the distance from the parking lot to the arboretum entrance is approximately 100 meters.
Electric vehicle users can use the two chargers installed at Daeunsan Public Parking Lot. Since the routes through the parking lot and the arboretum are separate, it is convenient to reduce your luggage and collect any necessary items at the entrance first.
By public transportation, the recommended route is to take bus 705 from Ulsan Express Bus Terminal to Lucky Apartment, transfer to village bus 50, and get off at Daeunsan Third Public Parking Lot. From Yangsan Intercity Bus Terminal, you can combine bus 52 with village bus 50.
About 700 Books and Four Restrooms, with Two Rental Items of Each Type
The library on the first floor of the Arboretum Management Office contains approximately 700 books on plants, insects, and birds, which can be read during the arboretum's opening hours. If you want to look up more plant information after a short visit, the management office is a convenient starting and ending point.
There are four restrooms: at the public parking lot, outdoors on the first floor of the management office, near the exhibition greenhouse, and on the first floor of the upper cafeteria building. The first floor of the management office has 22 storage locker compartments in total. Visitors are advised not to leave valuables in the lockers and to keep them with them.
Two strollers and two wheelchairs are available for free rental on the first floor of the management office, but supplies are limited. If needed, prepare your own equipment first and call 052-229-8588 before departure to check availability.
Daeunsan Forest, Where Stream Creature Collection and Pet Access Are Restricted
Because Ulsan Arboretum manages both the Daeunsan valley and forest, catching freshwater snails, fish, and other aquatic creatures in the valley is prohibited. Vehicles and two-wheeled vehicles are also not permitted inside the arboretum, so walking routes should be planned with pedestrian travel in mind.
Pets, smoking, drinking, cooking, camping, group entertainment, and access beyond open areas are also restricted. It is best to plan your visit with the understanding that this is a plant exhibition and forest education space, not a valley swimming area or campground.
The exhibition greenhouse is a worthwhile priority during a short visit. It is included in the one-hour course and, unlike the outdoor botanical gardens, is closed only on Seollal, Chuseok, and New Year's Day, so your itinerary can be adjusted even in rainy weather.
When Combining It with Naewonam Valley, a Morning Visit Is the Safest Schedule
Ulsan Arboretum is located on the same slopes of Mount Daeunsan as Naewonam Valley, making it easy to combine forest trails and the valley area into one itinerary. However, the official two-hour arboretum course alone takes two hours round trip. If you also plan to walk through the valley, arriving before 15:00 in summer or before 14:00 in winter is a reasonable choice.
An online Ulsan City media outlet introducing summer visitor reviews stated that forest interpretation programs are operated by advance reservation from May through November. Since the program schedule, eligible participants, and reservation method may change each year, those planning to participate should check both the arboretum notices and the Forest Education and Culture Center information.
In 2026, a stamp tour is scheduled from June 27 through November 30. Visitors who complete the procedures at three locations—the management office information desk, exhibition greenhouse, and first floor of Manbo House—will receive a companion plant. This event may vary depending on the dates and available stock.
