How the 2002 drama turned ‘a bridge over Yeojwacheon’ into Romance Bridge
Romance Bridge was originally one of several footbridges crossing Yeojwacheon, which flows through Yeojwa-dong. After a scene featuring the characters played by Kim Ha-neul and Kim Jae-won in the 2002 MBC drama <Romance> was filmed here, it began to be widely known as ‘Romance Bridge,’ after the broadcast title.
Yeojwacheon is a narrow stream that rises in Jangboksan and flows into Jinhae Bay. Because deck walkways run along both sides of the stream and are connected by bridges, there are sections where the branches of cherry trees appear to overlap above the water. Changwon City improved the pedestrian route through the Yeojwacheon Deck Road Connection Project in 2011, and the approximately 1.5-kilometer section from Jinhae Station to Pyeongjigyo is currently promoted as a representative cherry blossom route.

What to know for a free 24-hour walk starting at 16 Yeojwacheon-ro
The tourist information address is 16 Yeojwacheon-ro, Jinhae-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, and the lot-based address is 217 Yeojwa-dong, Jinhae-gu. Admission is free, and the site is listed as open 24 hours a day, year-round. Therefore, there is no set admission closing time, but temporary controls or detours may be introduced for pedestrian safety during peak cherry blossom season and the Jinhae Gunhangje Festival.

If you only take a short look at Romance Bridge, allow 20–30 minutes; if you walk round trip along the deck path from the Jinhae Station side toward Pyeongjigyo or include photography, allowing 60–90 minutes is more realistic.

How to reach the 1.5-kilometer Yeojwacheon deck from Jinhae Station Public Parking Lot
Yeojwacheon is close to Jinhae Station, making it easy to reach on foot from the area around the railway station. Korea Tourism Organization information states that Jinhae Station Public Parking Lot can be used free of charge. Since roads in downtown Jinhae become congested during cherry blossom peak season, it is better to park and continue on foot. Rather than entering only the address into a navigation system, check ‘Yeojwacheon Romance Bridge’ and ‘Jinhae Station Public Parking Lot’ separately as destinations to make route decisions easier.
Public transportation users should use Jinhae Station as their reference point and follow the Yeojwacheon deck path after arriving. During the Gunhangje Festival, temporary shuttle and traffic-control systems may be adjusted each year separately from regular bus services, so check the temporary routes in Changwon City’s Gunhangje announcements again on the day of departure. Visitors to Romance Bridge are directed to use public parking lots around the station rather than a dedicated parking lot.

Why the ‘night landscape lighting’ creates a different experience from daytime in cherry blossom season

Along with its significance as a filming location for a 2002 drama, this creates strong demand for nighttime visits.
When choosing a visiting time, it is best to schedule photography-focused visits for early morning and lighting-focused visits for after sunset. In particular, pedestrian movement along the 1.5-kilometer deck path may slow during the middle of the day in the Gunhangje Festival period, so visitors with strollers or wheelchairs should come when foot traffic is lighter and take the stairs and sloped sections of the walkway into account.

However, the Yeojwacheon Romance Bridge section itself includes both stairs and ramps, and wheelchair rental is reportedly unavailable. Therefore, rather than attempting the entire route, choose an accessible path centered on the photo zones and exhibition spaces around Romance Bridge and Seolyeongyo, and for those requiring mobility assistance, visiting with a companion is safer. A route through old Jinhae continuing on foot to Pyeongjigyo and the Inland Water Environmental Ecology Park
Rather than ending the visit after seeing only Romance Bridge, walk along Yeojwacheon toward Pyeongjigyo and combine it with Jinhae Inland Water Environmental Ecology Park to see stream, reservoir, and cherry tree scenery along one route. The rear entrance to Jinhae Inland Water Environmental Ecology Park is located west of the parking lot beside Pyeongjigyo in the upper reaches of Yeojwacheon, and the park can be reached from Romance Bridge via the streamside walking trail.
A recommended itinerary for a day in old Jinhae starts at Yeojwacheon and continues to Jungwon Rotary, Jehwangsan Park, and Gyeonghwa Station. Passenger services at Gyeonghwa Station were discontinued in 2006, after which the site was used as a former railway-track park, making it a good place to compare with Yeojwacheon’s waterside decks. If both locations are included, it is better to allow at least 3–4 hours during cherry blossom season.

Staying on a bridge for too long can obstruct the flow of pedestrians behind you, so it is better to take photos from a safe spot at the edge of the deck after crossing the bridge. Rather than making Romance Bridge the only destination, first decide which direction to walk along the approximately 1.5-kilometer section from Jinhae Station to Pyeongjigyo, which can reduce the time spent retracing your steps.
In seasons without flowers, the density of the ‘cherry blossom tunnel’ is lower, so it is difficult to recommend a long journey to travelers for whom cherry blossom scenery is the main purpose without checking bloom information. Conversely, if the filming location and the stream walk itself are the goal, visiting is still possible outside the festival period thanks to free admission and 24-hour access. Festival dates, bloom conditions, and traffic controls vary each year, so check official announcements immediately before visiting.
