From the 1592 Naval Battle Site to the Dinosaur Exhibition Hall: A Route through Danghangpo Tourist Site in Goseong

Danghangpo Tourist Site is a paid attraction where visitors can experience the memory of the 1592 Battle of Danghangpo and Goseong’s dinosaur attractions in one location. With indoor exhibitions, outdoor coastal walks, camping, and pensions, the site covers a wide area, so it is best to allow at least three hours.

From the 1981 Fundraising Campaign to the November 1987 Opening

Danghangpo Tourist Site was developed to commemorate the site of the Battle of Danghangpo, where Yi Sun-sin defeated Japanese forces during the Imjin War. In 1981, Goseong County residents began developing the battlefield site through fundraising, and the area was designated a tourist site in 1984 before opening in November 1987.

The site today is characterized by the combination of Yi Sun-sin and dinosaur themes. Alongside the memorial shrine, memorial hall, and Battle Victory Monument related to the Battle of Danghangpo, its facilities include the Goseong Natural History Museum, Turtle Ship Experience Center, Chungmugong Diorama Hall, Theme Hall, and Dinosaur Country Botanical Garden. Planning it as a place where you simply view one exhibition and leave may therefore result in an inefficient route.

Why Visit the 2,969㎡ Theme Hall and 16-Minute 4D Theater First

The center of the dinosaur attractions is the Theme Hall, built in 2006. It has a total floor area of 2,969㎡ and three above-ground floors, with a 4D Theater, Safari Theater, Dinosaur Exhibition Hall, and Experience Zone. Admission to the Theme Hall is available from 09:00 to 17:00, so if you arrive late in the afternoon, it is better to schedule the indoor attractions before the outdoor ones.

The 4D Theater costs an additional 2,000 won, with each show lasting 16 minutes and accommodating 180 people. Shows begin at 10:00, 11:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, and 16:30. The Safari Theater runs continuously from 09:10 to 17:00, with each viewing lasting about five minutes. It accommodates 40 people at a time and can be viewed freely without waiting, making it convenient to visit between 4D showings.

Reading Yi Sun-sin's Second Battle of Danghangpo along Danghangman Coastal Road and at Songchungsa

Danghangpo is directly connected to naval history from the early years of the Imjin War. On the fifth day of the sixth lunar month in 1592, the Joseon allied fleet led by Yi Sun-sin is reported to have defeated 28 Japanese warships here. Songchungsa within the tourist site is a shrine commemorating Yi Sun-sin, who led the victory in the Battle of Danghangpo.

Even on an itinerary focused on dinosaurs, it is better not to separate the Yi Sun-sin themed area from Danghangman Coastal Road. Danghangpo Tourist Site features a coastal road and camellia forest path along the calm waters of Danghangman. Seeing the terrain and sea of this historic battlefield together helps explain how this narrow harbor came to hold the memory of a naval battle.

From 1,000 Won for the Tram and 45,000 Won for Auto Camping: Plan Around Your Energy Level

Because the grounds are extensive, groups traveling with young children or people with difficulty walking may want to consider the tram car. A single tram ride costs 1,000 won, while an unlimited day pass costs 3,000 won. Viewing the indoor exhibitions, outdoor dinosaur facilities, and naval battle ruins takes about three to four hours at a minimum. Including showings, walks, and play areas, it is realistic to allow four to six hours.

If you plan to stay overnight, an ordinary auto-camping site costs 45,000 won per section, while an S site costs 50,000 won per section. An additional night costs 30,000 won. Pension rates are listed as 100,000 won on off-season weekdays, 120,000 won on off-season weekends, and 170,000 won during peak season. For camping and pension reservations, check availability through the separate inquiry numbers 055-670-7421~7423.

Things to Check Before Renting a Stroller or Wheelchair or Bringing a Pet

The Korea Tourism Organization's Accessible Tourism information states that strollers and wheelchairs are available for free rental, and that convenience facilities include elevators, lifts, nursing rooms, diaper-changing tables, an emergency medical room, and accessible parking. However, the number available and same-day rental procedures may change, so if needed, it is advisable to call 055-670-7400 before admission.

Pets are listed as not permitted. Foreign visitors should note that many outdoor facilities rely primarily on Korean-language information. To see both the Dinosaur Theme Hall and the naval battle ruins, it is better to prepare a mobile-phone translation function and allow sufficient viewing time. Passenger-car visitors can use paid parking, but since up-to-date details on public transportation routes and walking times from stops could not be confirmed in the official information, separate verification through a map service based on your departure point is necessary.

How Visiting Changes During the Dinosaur Expo, October 1–November 9, 2025

Danghangpo Tourist Site is a major venue for the Goseong Dinosaur World Expo in Gyeongsangnam-do. The 2025 event was held here for 40 days from October 1 to November 9, and during the expo, event tickets and operating hours different from those for general tourist-site admission may apply.

There have also been cases when the site operated without its regular closing day during event periods, such as the summer water festival, so do not assume it is closed simply because it is Monday. Conversely, parking, ticketing, and waiting times for the 4D Theater may differ from usual on event days. Confirm the operating conditions for your specific date through official announcements and the main phone number before finalizing your plans.
