Best Time to Visit
The Goseong Dinosaur Fossil Site is often visited together with the coastal walking trail, so spring (April to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best times to go. The weather is relatively mild and it is comfortable to walk for a long time, making it the most suitable season for foreign travelers as well.
The recommended visiting time is 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. or after 4:00 p.m. At midday, the sun can be strong and the weather hot, making it less comfortable to walk along the coastal section.
The quietest days are Tuesday through Thursday on weekdays. Weekends and public holidays can be busier because of family visitors. In particular, spring and autumn weekends with good weather tend to be more crowded.
In short, weekday mornings in spring and autumn are the most pleasant. Summer can feel hot and humid with greater crowding, while winter can feel colder because of the sea breeze.
How Long to Stay
If you just take a quick look around, about 1 hour is enough. If you include the basic exhibitions and hands-on experiences, it is usually best to allow 2 to 3 hours. If you plan to also see other dinosaur-related attractions or coastal sightseeing spots nearby, a half-day or more is recommended.
How to Get There
The Goseong Dinosaur Fossil Site is located in the Sanggokam County Park area, Deokmyeong-ri, Hai-myeon, Goseong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do. For foreign travelers, the most practical option is usually to travel by bus via Goseong Bus Terminal.
How to Get There by Bus
From Goseong Bus Terminal, take a local or rural bus bound for Danghangpo. It is safest to confirm with the driver whether the bus goes toward Sanggokam County Park or the Dinosaur Museum before boarding. After getting off, you can walk to the dinosaur fossil site and the coastal trail.
How to Get There by Subway
There is no subway station in Goseong. You should first use the subway in the nearest major city, then transfer to an intercity bus to Goseong. Usually, you would come to Goseong Bus Terminal from Busan or Changwon, then transfer at the terminal to a local or rural bus bound for Danghangpo.
Walking Route
After getting off in the Sanggokam area, if you walk up the hill path, it connects toward the back entrance of the Goseong Dinosaur Museum. The coastal section of the fossil site and the area around the museum are accessible on foot, but the path includes uphill sections and may have rocky coastal areas, so comfortable sneakers are recommended.
Bus intervals may be long, so it is a good idea to check the timetable before departing from Goseong Bus Terminal.
Photo Spots
- Dinosaur track fossils on the wave-cut platform in front of Sanggokam
Location: the flat rock surface that appears when you go left from the fork in the Sanggokam County Park coastal trail.
Shooting direction: photograph downward so the outline of the tracks on the ground is visible, and if possible, shoot with the sea behind you.
Recommended time: morning or late afternoon. Side lighting helps the track shadows stand out better than at midday. - Rock layers and dinosaur tracks along the coastal trail
Location: the rocky area that continues along the Sanggokam County Park coastal walking trail.
Shooting direction: frame the entire rock layer broadly toward the sea from the walking trail, and if you include one person, the scale of the tracks becomes more apparent.
Recommended time: late afternoon. The sea and rock textures come alive together, making it good for landscape photos. - Close-up of the rock layers near Sanggokam
Location: a section of the rock strata around Sanggokam where many tracks remain.
Shooting direction: if you photograph a single track from a diagonal angle above rather than straight on, the depth and shape will appear clearer.
Recommended time: morning. The relatively soft light shows the texture of the fossil surface well. - Cave photo zone
Location: the photo zone around the cave-shaped rock formations in the Sanggokam area.
Shooting direction: photographing from inside the cave toward the sea outside gives a strong framing effect, while photographing inward from the entrance is good for silhouette portraits.
Recommended time: afternoon. The light near the entrance is stable, making it easier to capture both people and the background.
Night View
At night, the Goseong Dinosaur Fossil Site area takes on a different atmosphere as lighting is added. Around Sanggokam, nighttime landscape lighting (delight-style effects) is installed to illuminate the dinosaur-themed space, and the egg-shaped nest lighting is especially impressive. From the approximately 3-meter-high observation deck, you can take in a panoramic view of the park decorated with lights, and the symbolic 8-meter Super Tree is also worth seeing as a nighttime highlight.
The atmosphere is family-friendly and ideal for a light walk, and it is also suitable for photography. The best time to visit is from just after sunset into the evening, when the lights are most visible. During special events or expo periods, night openings may be operated and there may be more to see, so it is recommended to check the official schedule and operating hours before visiting.
