Gimhae Nakdonggang Rail Park — A Rail Bike Ride Across a Disused Gyeongjeon Line Railway Bridge and the Saengnim Tunnel Wine Cave
Gimhae Nakdonggang Rail Park has revived a former single-track Gyeongjeon Line railway that once crossed the Nakdong River as a tourist attraction. Its highlights are a 3-kilometer round-trip rail bike ride across the railway bridge and a wine cave created from the former Saengnim Tunnel. Since opening in 2016, it surpassed one million cumulative visitors in 2018 and was designated an Open Tourism Site by the government in 2019.

From the Masan Line in 1905 to a Rail Park in 2016 — The Transformation of a Disused Railway
The roots of the Gyeongjeon Line date back to 1905. On May 26, 1905, the day after the Gyeongbu Line opened, the railway section between Samnangjin and Masan was opened, establishing the first section of what is now the Gyeongjeon Line. The Saengnim Tunnel, now home to the wine cave at Nakdonggang Rail Park, is also said to have been constructed around this time. The railway bridge crossing the Nakdong River was completed later, on December 20, 1962, when Nakdonggang Station was relocated to its present site.
This single-track railway fell into disuse when the Samnangjin–Masan section of the Gyeongjeon Line was converted to double-track electrification on December 15, 2010. Gimhae City decided to develop the 2.1-kilometer section from Nakdonggang Railway Bridge to Saengnim Tunnel as a tourist attraction, creating a rail park that opened in 2016. On November 11, 2018, two years and six months after opening, cumulative visitors exceeded 1 million—twice the population of Gimhae City. In 2019, it was selected as an Open Tourist Site, a designation jointly awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Tourism Organization, and Gimhae City. The number of visitors in 2022 was recorded at 216,279.
A 3-Kilometer Round Trip with 34 Rail Bikes
The rail bikes travel a 1.5-kilometer one-way course, or 3 kilometers round trip, combining a 0.5-kilometer ground section and a 1.0-kilometer section on Nakdonggang Railway Bridge. A total of 34 bikes operate, and riders can use both manual pedals and an automatic motor, making it manageable even when traveling with a companion who is not confident in their stamina. Each bike can accommodate up to four people, and the two-person fare applies even when only one person rides. The operating time is listed as approximately 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the source.
As riders approach the turnaround point, they reduce speed according to the safety staff's instructions, then turn the bike around on a turntable and return along the opposite rail. Reservations are available online only, and passengers must arrive at the ticket office at least 20 minutes before their designated time to collect their tickets.
A Wine Cave Repurposed from the 1905 Saengnim Tunnel and Raspberry Wine
The wine cave was created by preserving and using the interior of the disused Saengnim Tunnel. Inside, visitors can sample or purchase raspberry wine made by aging raspberries, a specialty of Gimhae. There is also a photo zone featuring “Be,” a raspberry character, along with a light-decorated tunnel and trick art. In the separate Digital Cave, visitors can experience a tunnel combining digital media, lighting, and raspberry wine.
The train café is a space created by renovating two actual Saemaeul-ho train cars that operated during the 1980s and 1990s. It sells meals and snacks made with local agricultural products. The course that visits the train café and wine cave after the rail-bike experience is listed as taking approximately 80 minutes and covering 3.7 kilometers.
The 15-Meter-High Nakdonggang Railway Bridge Observatory and “The King's Sunset”
At the end of the disused railway bridge in the middle of the rail-bike course stands the Nakdonggang Railway Bridge Observatory, measuring 15 meters high, 50 meters wide, and 6 meters long. The observatory can accommodate approximately 100 people at once. From here, visitors can see the panorama of Samnangjin-eup in Miryang City to the north, Muchuksan Mountain in Gimhae to the south, and the Nakdong River winding through the landscape to the east and west.
The sunset seen here around dusk is called “The King's Sunset,” a name paired with “The Queen's Sunset,” viewed from Bunsanseong Fortress. It is also said that wishes made as the sunset turns the sky red will come true.
Closed on the Last Monday of Each Month, with Weekend Night Extensions through October 2026
According to the official information, rail-bike operating hours are 09:30–18:00 from April to October and 09:30–17:00 from November to March. The wine cave is open from 09:00 to 18:00. The last Monday of each month is a scheduled closure for facility inspections; if that day is a public holiday, the following day becomes the closure day instead.
Through October 31, 2026, weekend and public-holiday hours will be temporarily extended into the evening, with rail bikes operating until 19:20 and the wine cave remaining open until 20:00. During this period, packages combining the rail bike and wine cave start at 28,000 won for two people. In summer, even though daylight lasts longer, closing time can arrive sooner than expected, so it is safer to arrive before ticket sales end.
Rail-Bike Fares from 18,000 Won for Two — Including Wine-Cave Packages
For individual rail-bike use, the fares are 18,000 won for two people, 23,000 won for three, and 28,000 won for four. Group and Gimhae resident discount fares are 15,000 won for two, 18,000 won for three, and 21,000 won for four. However, these discounts apply only on weekdays and are not available on weekends or public holidays. The two-person fare applies even when only one person rides.
Packages combining the rail bike and wine cave cost 28,000 won for two people, 38,000 won for three, and 48,000 won for four. Discounted fares for Gimhae residents, volunteers, and groups are 24,000 won for two, 31,000 won for three, and 38,000 won for four. For the wine cave alone, admission is 2,000 won for adults, 1,500 won for teenagers aged 13–18 and seniors aged 65 or older, and 1,000 won for children.
41 Masaro 473beon-gil, Saengnim-myeon — More Convenient by Car than Public Transportation
The rail park is located at 41 Masaro 473beon-gil, Saengnim-myeon, Gimhae, Gyeongsangnam-do, along the road from Samnangjin in Miryang to Saengnim-myeon in Gimhae. As it is an outlying area with few facilities besides the rail-bike and wine-cave buildings, no city-bus route allowing access on foot after getting off at a stop has been confirmed. The nearest railway station is Samnangjin Station on the Gyeongjeon Line, but public transportation connections from the station to the rail park are unclear, making travel by private car or taxi the most practical option for now.
Parking is free, and visitor reviews repeatedly mention that the parking lot is spacious because there are no other buildings besides the rail-bike and wine-cave facilities. Five spaces are also reserved for visitors with disabilities.
The Wine Cave in Hot Summer and Railway-Bridge Scenery That Changes with the Seasons
Summer visitor reviews often mention escaping the heat in the wine cave during the day and riding the rail bikes when the river breeze is blowing. The railway bridge is open on all sides, allowing visitors to feel the river breeze directly, but it also has relatively little shade. The official introduction highlights the changing seasonal scenery visible from the bridge, including spring fields, summer river currents, autumn foliage, and winter snow-covered landscapes.
Autumn visitor reviews include several accounts of day trips with children, as well as comments that parents and grandparents especially enjoyed the atmosphere of the old railway tracks. Conversely, travelers planning to visit using only public transportation should consider their transportation options in advance.
Open Tourist Site Facilities for Families with Wheelchairs and Strollers
After being designated an Open Tourist Site, the rail park added five accessible parking spaces, an approach to the entrance without steps, one wheelchair available for loan, and an accessible restroom. It also has Braille and tactile-audio information boards for visitors with visual impairments, as well as ramps equipped with tactile handrail panels. Electrically powered rail sections are available on uphill stretches that may be difficult for older visitors to climb.
The nursing room is equipped with a diaper-changing table, sink, baby dining table, microwave, and other amenities. Sensory experience elements are also available, including artist Jeong Man-young's installation art “Open Wind Chime.” However, the availability of foreign-language guidance has not been separately confirmed.
