A Night Beside the Han River Breeze: How to Use Nanji Camping Site’s 124 Pitches

Nanji Camping Site, redesigned across 27,000㎡ in 2021 after opening in 2002

Nanji Camping Site is located at 28 Hangangnanji-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul, within Nanji Hangang Park, and opened in 2002. Seoul Metropolitan Government data records the site as approximately 27,000㎡, and following a comprehensive renovation in 2021, it operates as a reservation-based facility with five zones: general camping, free camping, glamping, barbecue, and campfire.

According to the current information, the camping areas include 83 general camping sites, 5 glamping sites, and 36 free camping sites, for a total of 124 sites. Located within Nanji Hangang Park along the Han River, it is suited to combining a one-night stay or same-day barbecue visit with access by public transportation or taxi from central Seoul, unlike remote auto-camping sites intended primarily for overnight stays.

83 general sites, 36 free-camping sites, and 5 glamping sites: how to choose based on your equipment

Unlike the glamping zone, the general and free-camping zones generally require visitors to bring their own camping supplies. Seoul Metropolitan Government guidance states that tents, sun shelters, barbecue grills, and other camping equipment cannot be rented outside the glamping zone. If you plan to rent tents, sleeping bags, mats, or cooking utensils, carefully review the conditions again before making a reservation.

The glamping zone has five units, accommodates up to four people, operates from 15:00 until 11:00 the following day, and costs 100,000 won. The restrooms and showers are shared, so it is not suitable for travelers expecting a private bathroom inside their accommodation. It is safest to prepare based on the information for the relevant date shown on the reservation page, including the range of bedding, toiletries, and seasonal warming equipment provided.

  • General and free camping: Suitable for visitors with their own tents and equipment
  • Glamping: Up to 4 people, 15:00–11:00 the following day, with shared restrooms and showers
  • All zones: Use requires advance reservation and payment through the Seoul Public Service Reservation system

11:00–16:00 and 17:00–22:00: two sessions at the 26 barbecue sites

For a meal-focused visit without an overnight stay, the 26 barbecue sites are an option. Operating hours are 11:00–16:00 for the first session and 17:00–22:00 for the second. From December through February, the second session is shortened by one hour, running from 17:00 to 21:00. Since the time slots are fixed, calculate your shopping and travel time based on the departure time rather than the arrival time.

Barbecue site fees are 10,000 won for 4 people, 15,000 won for 8 people, and 20,000 won for 12 people. You must reserve a site appropriate for your group size. Since all spaces require advance payment, it is better to check the available dates and sessions on the reservation page first rather than expect an open site on the day. The shop is said to sell camping, barbecue, and campfire supplies as well as food and beverages, but alcohol, prepared foods, and fireworks are not sold.

Five campfire sites divided into 17:00 and 20:00 sessions, with shorter winter hours

There are five campfire sites, divided into a first session from 17:00 to 20:00 and a second session from 20:00 to 23:00. From December through February, the second session runs only from 20:00 to 22:00. Therefore, in winter, even if you reserve the later session, you should reflect in your schedule that it will not be possible to use the site for three hours.

Fees are 5,000 won for 8 people and 10,000 won for 15 people. The fire-use area operates separately from the barbecue zone, so if you plan to have both a meal and a campfire, check whether each reservation is available and whether the sessions run consecutively. Fireworks are excluded from the items sold at the shop, and the latest instructions on campsite safety rules and conditions for using fire should take priority.

  • Campfire session 1: 17:00–20:00
  • Campfire session 2: 20:00–23:00; from December through February, 20:00–22:00
  • Fees: 5,000 won for 8 people / 10,000 won for 15 people

Why you should check the date-specific options first on the Seoul Public Service Reservation system

All areas at Nanji Camping Site require advance reservation and payment through the Seoul Metropolitan Government Public Service Reservation system. Previous official guidance stated that reservations for the following month opened on the 15th of each month and could be made until 14:00 on the day of the visit. However, the April 2026 general camping product was listed as accepting applications from 14:30 on March 16, 2026, until 17:00 on April 30. In other words, opening and closing times may vary by month and product.

The reservation page states that if use becomes unavailable due to facility maintenance or campsite circumstances, separate advance notice and a full refund may be provided. Before making a reservation, check the date of use, zone type, capacity, check-in and departure times, and cancellation policy on the same page. The inquiry phone number listed for the 2026 reservation product is Nanji Camping Site at 02-373-2021.

After arriving at 28 Hangangnanji-ro, use the public parking lot rather than a campsite-only parking area

The street address is 28 Hangangnanji-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul. Previous Seoul Metropolitan Government guidance explained that the campsite has no dedicated parking lot and that visitors must use the public parking lot at Nanji Hangang Park. It also stated that campsite users receive a 50% parking discount. However, parking fees and the way discounts are applied may change, so check both the Public Service Reservation page for your departure date and the on-site parking information.

For public transportation, a practical option is to connect by bus or taxi from the World Cup Stadium Station or Digital Media City Station areas. If you have a lot of camping equipment, entering the address into a taxi and traveling directly is preferable to walking a long distance from a subway station. The Nanji Information Center can be reached at 02-3780-0611–3 and may be used for inquiries related to the Han River parks.

Those prepared for wind, noise, and shared facilities when staying inside a Han River park

Nanji Camping Site is an outdoor facility within a Han River park, so it is not suitable for travelers seeking a quiet hotel-style room or a private bathroom. The glamping zone also uses shared restrooms and showers, while the barbecue and campfire zones require visitors to finish cleaning up and leaving within their designated sessions. If you are camping outdoors for the first time, it is a good idea to bring windproof clothing, a power bank, lighting, and items for rainy weather separately.

User posts on the Seoul Metropolitan Government camping photo board include both complaints about facility maintenance and positive comments about the spacious sites and nearby exercise areas. Since the condition of grass and vegetation and the state of facility maintenance may vary by season, you can reduce uncertainty by checking the notice on the reservation page and calling Nanji Camping Site at 02-373-2021 just before your visit to confirm operations.

The recommended duration is five hours for the barbecue zone only, three hours for the campfire zone, and approximately 20 hours for an overnight stay in the general, free-camping, or glamping zones, from 15:00 until 11:00 the following day. After an overnight stay, you can continue along the walking paths and riverside routes of Nanji Hangang Park, but leave enough time to pack so that you do not exceed the departure time for your reserved zone.
