Photo Spots

  • Double cherry blossom path at Bulguksa entrance: The path around the way from the ticket booth into the temple grounds is the most popular spring photo spot. Stand along the flower path and shoot with Bulguksa behind you, and the pink double cherry blossoms will fill the background. Early morning is the quietest time and the light is soft. This is especially good for an April visit.
  • Plaza in front of Dabotap: This is the iconic tower photo spot of Bulguksa. Stand a little distance away from the front of the tower and photograph it straight on or slightly from the side to highlight its three-dimensional form. In the morning, the light is relatively bright and clear for photos.
  • Around Seokgatap: A great place if you want a neat and quiet atmosphere in your photos. Step back a little so that the tower and the courtyard are both visible, and try shooting while including the direction of Daeungjeon. Late morning to before noon has less complicated shadows.
  • Below the steps in front of Daeungjeon: A good spot for capturing the grandeur of the building. If you shoot from below the steps toward Daeungjeon above, the scale of the traditional architecture comes through well. In the morning, it is easier to get frontal light, giving the colors a clean look.
  • Temple walking path where the towers and spring flowers are visible together: Look for spots around the main towers where flowering trees and temple buildings fit into one frame. If you shoot with the flowers in the foreground and the towers in view, you can create a photo with a strong seasonal feel. Early morning or late afternoon is good for avoiding crowds.

After sunset, Bulguksa Temple’s night landscape lighting turns on, illuminating the serene temple buildings and surrounding scenery with a gentle glow. Rather than a bright and flashy style, it is characterized by a calm and mysterious atmosphere, making it well suited for photography or an evening stroll.

If you used the Bulguksa Temple parking lot, you can also go down the lower area and see the double cherry blossom night lighting. It is especially atmospheric in spring.

There is no regularly confirmed information about a separate night festival, but Gyeongju has night lighting installed at many cultural heritage sites, so it is nice to enjoy the night scenery of nearby relics after visiting Bulguksa.
