Best Time to Visit

Gyeongbuk Andong Hahoe Village 계절 봄 가을

Andong Hahoe Village is best visited in spring and fall, when the weather is mild and pleasant for walking. To slowly explore the village, you will usually need about 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes.

Within the day, it is recommended to arrive early in the morning. In the late afternoon, the viewing time may feel short, making it difficult to explore at a relaxed pace. In particular, foreign travelers may need time at the entrance to figure out transportation and walking routes, so starting early is more convenient.

Weekday visits are the most comfortable, while weekends and public holidays can be relatively crowded. If you want a quieter atmosphere, Tuesday through Thursday mornings are ideal.

Visiting hours are April to September 09:00-17:30, and October to March 09:00-16:30. In winter and early spring, closing time is earlier, so it is best to avoid visiting late in the afternoon.

How Long to Stay

If you tour Hahoe Village quickly, it takes about 1 hour. Normally, it is best to allow 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours as you walk slowly along the village paths. If you plan to visit nearby sights such as Byeongsan Seowon as well, set aside about half a day for a relaxed itinerary.

How to Get There

Andong Hahoe Village is a little outside central Andong, so if you are using public transportation, it is easiest to first use Andong Station as your reference point.

Subway

There is no subway in Andong. For foreign travelers, the most practical method is to first take KTX or a regular train to Andong Station, then transfer to a bus. From Seoul, many people use trains via Seoul Station or Cheongnyangni Station, and from Busan or Daegu, trains via Dongdaegu Station are common.

Bus

Take a city bus from Andong Station to Hahoe Village. Based on collected information, Bus No. 210 is listed, and some sources also mention No. 46, so it is best to check the latest timetable at Andong Station or at the bus stop before departure.

Buses to Hahoe Village may not run frequently, so it is safer to match your train arrival time with the bus schedule in advance.

On Foot

After getting off the bus, continue to the entrance of Hahoe Village. Vehicles do not enter the village directly; in general, you get off at the entrance parking lot and enter by shuttle bus. If you are traveling only on foot, the distance is considerable, so if you have a lot of luggage, using the shuttle bus is recommended.

Tip: Bus timetables departing from Andong Station may change, so check the latest information at the station tourist information center or on the notice board at the stop.

Photo Spots

  • Pine forest path at the entrance to Hahoe Village: Taking photos in the pine forest along the road leading into the village naturally captures the atmosphere of a traditional village. Shoot toward the inside of the path and toward the village. Morning light is soft and quiet, making it ideal for portraits.
  • Alleys of traditional houses inside the village: In the alleys lined with Joseon Dynasty buildings, try framing tile roofs and earthen walls together. Shooting straight toward the end of the alley creates a strong sense of depth. Late morning to early afternoon is the brightest and clearest time.
  • Area around the sandbar: The wide sandy area and riverside scenery are signature views of Hahoe Village. Shoot toward the village so that both the river and the village are visible together. In the afternoon, warm colors come out well, making it great for landscape photography.
  • Buyongdae Observatory: This is the best viewpoint for seeing the entire Hahoe Village at a glance. Look down toward Hahoe Village and capture the curve of the river together with the rooftops of the village. It is about a 5-minute drive from Hahoe Village. Sunset is the most beautiful time.
  • The curve of the Nakdonggang seen from Buyongdae: Rather than focusing only on the village, include the wider landscape shaped by the river. If you photograph the river’s bend together with the village, the geographic character of Hahoe Village stands out clearly. Late afternoon is recommended for the good shadows and sense of depth.

Night View

Gyeongbuk Andong Hahoe Village 야경

Hahoe Village itself is a quiet place best enjoyed for its traditional hanok houses and village atmosphere, and rather than a flashy permanent nighttime illumination spot, its charm lies in the serene mood around sunset. If you explore from late afternoon until just after sunset, the rooflines of the hanok houses and the village paths feel even more atmospheric.

The recommended time is from sunset to early evening. After touring the village, it is most practical to head to Woryeonggyo in Andong city center to enjoy the night view. Woryeonggyo has beautiful lighting and a pleasant atmosphere, making it a representative nighttime course often combined with a visit to Hahoe Village.

In particular, the spring months of April to June are a good time to enjoy the nighttime mood. Also, during the period when Andong's representative night event, Hahoe Seonyujulbulnori, is held, you can experience a special nightscape. We recommend checking the event schedule and operating status in advance before your visit.

Practical tip: Hahoe Village can have quiet and dark sections at night, so rather than staying until very late, it is convenient to tour at sunset and then move on to city night-view spots.

Seasonal Guide

Andong Hahoe Village changes greatly with the seasons, so it is worth visiting in all four seasons.

  • Spring: It is a great time to enjoy cherry blossoms along the cherry tree path around the village. It is nice for walking and taking photos with the hanok scenery, and the weather is relatively mild, making it suitable for a walking trip.
  • Summer: The cherry tree path turns into a deep green tunnel, creating a cool atmosphere. Since the sunlight is strong, it is a good idea to prepare a hat, water, and comfortable shoes.
  • Fall: The trees along the road form a tunnel of autumn colors, making it one of the most beautiful seasons. Thanks to the cool weather, it is great for enjoying walks through the village alleys and along the river.
  • Winter: It is a good time to experience the calm and peaceful atmosphere of a traditional village. It is often visited as part of an Andong winter trip, and if the performance schedule matches, you can also see Hahoe Byeolsingut Tallnori.

Special seasonal highlight: Hahoe Seonyujulbulnori is a traditional fireworks performance held on the first Saturday of every month from May to November, and if your travel dates match the schedule, it is definitely worth seeing.

Travel tip: Foreign travelers should note that temperatures vary greatly by season, so bring a light outer layer in spring and fall, sun protection items in summer, and warm clothing in winter.

Local Tips

Do not stop at Hahoe Village alone; also visit Byeongsan Seowon, about a 10-minute drive away. It is located between the Nakdonggang and Hwasan, making it a great place to enjoy the quiet harmony of hanok and nature.

Byeongsan Seowon is well-known, but surprisingly not very crowded, so it is a good place for a relatively peaceful walk and photos. If you prefer a serene atmosphere over busy tourist spots, it is an excellent choice.

Local recommendations also include Yekki Village and Jire Art Village. They are a good match for travelers who want an emotional stroll and an artistic atmosphere.
