Seongnam's Educational Library from 1983 Met on the Hill of Huimangdae Park

Gyeonggi-do Seongnam Education Library is a library located in Huimangdae Park that opened in 1983. It established its current layout after undergoing interior remodeling and the addition of a youth space in 2021. Since there is a steep slope when coming up from the Line 8 station, taking Bus No. 88 can reduce the burden of the climb. It is well-organized for different purposes, ranging from browsing materials to using the 24-hour smart library.

From Gyeonggi-do Provincial Seongnam Library in 1983 to a New Name in 2025

This library opened on July 5, 1983, as the 'Gyeonggi-do Provincial Seongnam Library.' In December 1984, the children's and housewives' reading rooms were expanded, and from March 1986, a mobile library service began operating. As an institution that has expanded the public reading foundation in the old downtown area of Seongnam, it is an excellent place to observe the regional support functions of an education office library rather than just a simple reading facility.

In March 2018, it changed its name to 'Gyeonggi Seongnam Education Library' and introduced a smart library in December of the same year. A new youth space was created during the internal remodeling and reopening in December 2021, and from March 1, 2025, it will use its current name, 'Gyeonggi-do Office of Education Seongnam Library.' The total building area, including the main building and the annex, is 3,825.43㎡, and the site area is 6,633㎡.

Steep Section at Exit 4 of Dandaeo-geori Station (Line 8) inside Huimangdae Park

The address is 26, Gongwon-ro 370beon-gil, Sujeong-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, located inside Huimangdae Park. The main phone number is 031-730-3500, and the fax is 031-734-4393. It is about a 15–20 minute walk from Exit 4 of Dandaeo-geori Station on Line 8 toward the park, but the official guide recommends transferring to a bus due to the steep slope of the park entrance.

If moving up stairs and slopes is burdensome, it is practical to take bus number 88 from the Sinheung Station/Jonghap Sijang Stop (06204) at Exit 2 of Sinheung Station or the Sanseong Station/Jugong Apartment Stop (05091) at Exit 3 of Sanseong Station, and get off at the Huimangdae Park Stop (05089). It is a 5–10 minute walk from the stop to the library. From the direction of Bundang or Moran Station, you can take buses 33, 51, or 340 to the Seongnam Post Office Stop (06206) and then transfer to bus number 88.

'Wisdom, Dream, Sea' Open Until 22:00 on Weekdays and Children's Space 'Light'

Admission is free. The resource space 'Wisdom' (Jihye), the youth space 'Dream' (Kkum), the information space 'Sea' (Bada), and the community space 'Garden' (Tteul) operate from 09:00 to 22:00 on weekdays. On Saturdays and Sundays, the resource, youth, and information spaces are open from 09:00 to 17:00, while the open learning space 'Garden' can be used from 09:00 to 22:00 even on weekends.

The children's space 'Light' (Bit) is open from 09:00 to 18:00 on weekdays and 09:00 to 17:00 on Saturdays and Sundays, so you should not assume it is open until the evening on weekdays to view children's materials. The library is closed every Monday and on public holidays, and there may be temporary closing days designated by the director for resource organization. It is safer to check the monthly schedule on the official website before heading out.

24-hour Smart Library and Different Uses for 'Garden' on the 1st Floor

The Smart Library in the outdoor booth operates 24/7, year-round. You can borrow and return books even after the main building is closed, but Smart Library materials must only be returned at that specific booth. Since an RFID card is required rather than a standard membership card, you should check at the information desk during your first visit to see if one can be issued.

For general reading purposes, the 'Garden' (Tteul) community space on the 1st floor is an open learning space available for free use. If you need to use a laptop, there are 16 seats in the information space on the 3rd floor, which can be used up to 3 times a day for a maximum of 3 hours per session after making a seat reservation. Copying and scanning services are available in the resource space on the 2nd floor and the information space on the 3rd floor, and document printing and fax transmission are also possible on the 3rd floor.

Document Work on the 2nd and 3rd Floors Starting from 50 KRW for A4 B&W

Visitors who need copying or scanning services should prepare a payment method in advance. The fees for A4 are 50 KRW for single-sided B&W, 100 KRW for double-sided B&W, 300 KRW for single-sided color, 600 KRW for double-sided color, 100 KRW per scan, and 300 KRW per fax. Payment can be made with credit cards, Samsung Pay, payOn, deferred payment transportation cards, and T-money, excluding transportation-only T-money cards.

As of June 30, 2026, the collection consists of 253,347 items, including books and non-book materials. Among these, literature-related materials are the most numerous at 98,170 items, with 120,410 general domestic books, 42,757 domestic children's books, and 14,929 e-books. If a desired book is currently on loan, you can reserve up to 3 books per person, and regular members can request up to 3 desired books per month.

Out-of-Library Loan Membership Procedures for Foreigners Residing in Gyeonggi-do

To borrow materials, you must register for an out-of-library loan membership. Eligibility includes people with a resident registration in Gyeonggi-do, those working or attending school in Gyeonggi-do, and overseas Koreans or registered foreigners residing in Gyeonggi-do. Registered foreigners should prepare identification such as an Alien Registration Card or a Domestic Residence Report Card.

The procedure involves signing up on the website and then having your documents verified and membership card issued at the 1st-floor information space. If you only intend to use the electronic library, you can switch to a regular membership through non-face-to-face authentication for Gyeonggi residents or Gyeonggi students. Borrowed books can be extended once per volume for 7 days from the day after the due date, but extensions are not possible if there are overdue items or if the material has been reserved by another user.

Visiting Routes to Huimangdae Park: Recommending Bus 88 over Parking

There is a parking lot, but official guidance recommends using public transportation as the space is narrow. Especially on weekends, since the demand for the library and Huimangdae Park may overlap, if you plan to visit briefly by car, it is better to call 031-730-3500 just before departure to check for parking availability. Parking fees are not confirmed in the official information.

A stay of 10–20 minutes is suitable for the Smart Library to quickly borrow or return books, while a schedule of 1–2 hours is appropriate for browsing the resource space and choosing books to read. If you include a walk in the park, you can take advantage of the library's location inside Huimangdae Park. However, the route walking straight up from Dandaeo-geori Station is steep, making a transfer to bus 88 more realistic for wheelchair and stroller users or visitors with mobility difficulties.
