Yurim Park Walking Route Connecting Bandoji Pond and Gapcheon Stream

Yurim Park is a free urban ecological park located in front of Yuseong-gu Office in Daejeon, on the delta where Gapcheon Stream and Yuseongcheon Stream meet. In one place, visitors can see Bandoji Pond, shaped like the Korean Peninsula, Yurimjeong Pavilion, waterside decks, a lawn plaza, and seasonal flowers. In autumn, it becomes the main venue for the Chrysanthemum Exhibition.

How did the 57,400㎡ site in front of Yuseong-gu Office become Yurim Park?

Yurim Park is an urban park created in front of Yuseong-gu Office in Daejeon, around the delta between Gapcheon and Yuseongcheon. The site covers approximately 57,400㎡. Daejeon Tourism classifies it as an ecological environmental attraction and includes it among the Yuseong-gu TOP 10 tourist destinations.

In 2007, Lee In-gu, honorary chairman and founder of Kyeryong Construction, donated 10 billion won from his personal fortune to give back to the local community on the occasion of his 77th birthday. The park was developed from January 2007 to June 2009 and then donated to Daejeon Metropolitan City. It is currently owned and operated by Yuseong-gu Office, Daejeon Metropolitan City.

Facilities to see first at the Korean Peninsula-shaped Bandogi

Bandogi in the center of the park is an artificial lake shaped like the Korean Peninsula. Around the lake are a waterwheel, the pavilion Yurimjeong, and waterside decks, so this is not simply a park for viewing lawns; it is designed for walking along the water.

The main facilities include Bandogi, a multipurpose lawn plaza, a flower garden, an outdoor stage, a central plaza, a ground fountain, Rainbow Bridge, and walking and jogging paths. When taking photos, grouping the lakeside, Rainbow Bridge, and Yurimjeong into one route helps ensure that you do not miss the differences between the facilities.

Seasonal changes created by some 60,000 trees and 130,000 plants

Yurim Park is home to approximately 60,000 trees and 130,000 plants. Because different trees suited to each season were planted during its development to express Korea’s four seasons, the vegetation seen in the same location varies depending on when you visit.

In spring, visitor reviews mention tulips and seasonal flowers, while a chrysanthemum festival is held in autumn. According to information from Yuseong-gu, tens of millions of chrysanthemums decorate the streets of Yuseong in October, with chrysanthemums and sculptures arranged around Yurim Park.

Choosing between buses and Wolpyeong Station from Daejeon Station to Yurim Park

If you use Daejeon city buses, search for “Yurim Park” bus stop as your destination. Yuseong-gu information indicates that the park is a 10-minute walk from this stop. The trunk buses serving the stop are routes 102, 106, 108, 113, and 706.

If you use Daejeon Subway Line 1, you can get off at Wolpyeong Station. After getting off at Wolpyeong Station, you need to walk approximately 20 minutes to Yuseong-gu Office, so the bus route is more practical if you have a lot of luggage or are visiting in midsummer. For foreign visitors, entering the official address “27 Eoeun-ro, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon” together with “Yuseong-gu Office” in a map app is less likely to cause confusion than searching for “Yurim Park” alone.

Time, fees, and parking information actually needed at this free park

Some sources describe Yurim Park as open at all times and throughout the year. Admission is listed as free, so visitors do not need to buy a ticket at a separate ticket office. However, the park’s official operating hours, closing days, and fee schedule could not be confirmed.

Parking around the park can be planned around the Yuseong-gu Office parking lot. The first hour is free, and vehicles displaying a disability permit receive the first two hours free. After that, 300 won is charged every 10 minutes. Paid operating hours are 08:30–18:00 on weekdays, while no parking fee is charged on weekday nights, weekends, or public holidays.

Travel reviews mention a linear parking area approximately 500 m long, but this is not an official parking guide for the park itself. Since no recommended viewing time has been separately provided, it is safest to plan either a short walk covering only Bandogi and the main facilities or a longer walk extending to Gapcheon.

How to continue walking from the flat paths to the Gapcheon riverside

Travel reviews describe the walking paths at Yurim Park as generally flat, with evenly maintained surfaces, making them suitable for strollers. However, the availability of detailed accessibility facilities such as dedicated wheelchair entrances and accessible toilets, as well as English information or an audio guide, has not been officially confirmed.

The park connects directly to the Gapcheon walking trail. Along the riverside path from Dunsan Bridge over Gapcheon to Yurim Park, you can see a variety of plants. Yuseong-gu’s dedicated bicycle paths form an approximately 37 km circular route along Gapcheon, Yuseongcheon, and Jinjamcheon.

For cyclists, pedestrian paths and bicycle paths are separated, and the public bicycle service Tashu is reportedly placed at various locations. Information indicates that nighttime landscape lighting comes on along the Gapcheon riverside after dark, so you can divide the lake walk and riverside walk between daytime and evening.

Why the operating periods of the chrysanthemum exhibition and ground fountain should be considered separately

Yurim Park serves as the central venue for the Yuseong Chrysanthemum Exhibition in October. During this period, chrysanthemums and sculptures are arranged throughout the park, and it is also used as a cultural space for events such as hands-on activities, performances, and drawing contests, which may create more congestion than during a normal walk.

The operating dates and hours of seasonal facilities such as the ground fountain, along with event-specific queues and access controls, have not been confirmed. Therefore, if you are visiting for the chrysanthemum exhibition, check Yuseong-gu information for the event period separately. If you want a quiet lake walk as usual, it is better to avoid the peak exhibition period.

The park also contains Literary Village Library, a specialized small library centered on the theme of literature. Visitors expecting only outdoor facilities might overlook the library, so it can be included in an itinerary that combines a walk with an indoor cultural space.

Four things first-time foreign visitors may easily miss

First, although the park is in front of Yuseong-gu Office, it is not directly next to Wolpyeong Station. You need to walk approximately 20 minutes from Wolpyeong Station to Yuseong-gu Office, and the bus also requires a 10-minute walk from the stop, so include this final travel time in your schedule.

Second, although ticketing and reservations are not indicated for this free park, the areas available around the outdoor stage and central plaza may differ on days when performances, hands-on activities, or drawing contests are held. Third, whether photography is prohibited, whether any facilities accept cash only, and whether English information or an audio guide is available have not been confirmed, so do not assume that they are available.

Fourth, Yurim Park is not a place limited to Bandogi and the lawn plaza; it connects to the Gapcheon riverside path. For a short photo itinerary during a visit to Daejeon, combine the lake, Yurimjeong, and Rainbow Bridge. For a longer itinerary, combine the Gapcheon walking trail and Literary Village Library to match the layout of the site.
