Within the day, visiting from around sunset to early evening is recommended. The view over downtown Daejeon is especially nice, and the atmosphere is more comfortable than during the day. At midday, the sunlight is strong and the uphill walk may feel hotter.
Weekday visits are the most pleasant. On weekend and holiday evenings, there may be more visitors, so it can get somewhat crowded. If you want a relatively quiet time, Monday to Thursday evenings are best.
In short, weekday sunsets in spring or autumn are the most comfortable time to enjoy Dae-dong Sky Park.
How Long to Stay
If you are only looking at the view and taking a few photos, 30 to 40 minutes is enough for Dae-dong Sky Park. If you slowly explore it together with the mural village, it usually takes 1 to 2 hours, and if you include nearby walking courses or surrounding attractions, it is best to allow about 2 hours or more.
How to Get There
Dae-dong Sky Park is on a hill, so the last stretch involves walking uphill. Comfortable shoes are recommended.
By subway
Take Daejeon Subway Line 1 and get off at Daedong Station. The most commonly recommended exit is Exit 7. After leaving the station, follow the alleys and uphill roads. Some visitors also use Exit 5, but since the on-site signs may not be very clear, using Exit 7 is the safer choice.
By bus
At the ‘Daejeon Station/Central Market’ bus stop in front of the west square of Daejeon Station, take City Bus 605 and get off at the Woosong Daedong Campus stop. After getting off, it is about a 10-minute walk to Dae-dong Sky Park.
On foot
After getting off the subway or bus, you need to pass through narrow alleys and uphill roads to reach the park. The route can be a little confusing, so it is most convenient to open your map app and search for “Dae-dong Sky Park”.
Photo Spots
- Plaza in front of the windmill: The best place to capture the park's iconic windmill together with the cherry blossoms. Stand facing the windmill and frame the blossoms behind it. Late morning to early afternoon offers soft light and bright photos.
- Hillside path beside the windmill: A point where you can capture the windmill and the surrounding cherry blossom path in a wide shot from above the hill. If you set your composition slightly downward while facing the windmill, you can show both the flowers and the height differences of the hill. Spring mornings are the clearest.
- Daejeon city view point: From the viewpoint near the windmill, you can overlook downtown Daejeon at a glance. Shooting toward the city center is good for landscape photos, and around sunset is ideal for capturing the sunset glow and the city skyline together.
- Background of Dae-dong Sky Village on the way up to the park: On the road leading to the park entrance, you can take photos of the village scenery below the hill. Shooting toward the village brings out the narrow houses and hillside atmosphere. Late afternoon light is warm and makes the photos better.
Night View
Dae-dong Sky Park is one of Daejeon's representative night-view spots and was selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's ‘100 Night Tourism Spots’. When the sun sets, soft lighting turns on throughout the park, and colorful lights blend with the surrounding scenery to create a different atmosphere from the daytime.
Especially at night, a music fountain show is held together with the lights, allowing you to enjoy an even more dazzling view. The lights reflected toward the Yudeungcheon area are also impressive, and the various family-name sculptures in the park look unique under the night lighting.
The recommended visiting time is from just after sunset until around 9 p.m. Rather than going too late, it is better to visit in the early evening when the lights are most visible, so you can enjoy both a walk and photography.
There is also space around the lawn plaza where you can rest for a while, making it suitable for sitting down and enjoying the night view. Since it is near Daedong Station, it is also convenient to stop by as part of an evening itinerary.
Seasonal Guide
Dae-dong Sky Park is a scenic viewpoint where the sunset, night view, and views over Daejeon's old downtown are especially beautiful throughout the four seasons. For foreign travelers, the best schedule is to see the mural alleys and the view during the day, then enjoy the sparkling windmill and the city nightscape from sunset onward.
Spring
In spring, it is nice to take a light walk along the uphill road and the surrounding paths. During cherry blossom season, it is a great time to take photos together with the nearby city scenery, and the sunset on clear days is especially beautiful.
Summer
In summer, the tunnel section near the Sky Park Cafe is mentioned as a point that evokes a rose-filled atmosphere. Since it is hot during the day, a late-afternoon visit is recommended, and after sunset, enjoying the night view becomes more comfortable with the cool breeze.
Autumn
Autumn is the easiest season for climbing the uphill road and stairs thanks to the cool weather. During foliage season, the warm-colored city scenery and the sunset go especially well together, making it a great time for photography.
Winter
In winter, the cold air often makes the night view look clearer. At night, the windmill lights and sparkling atmosphere stand out, making it a good season for atmospheric photos. The wind can be strong, so prepare warm clothing.
Year-round Highlights
Dae-dong Sky Park's signature points are the yellow star-shaped sculpture at the end of the stairs, the colorful pinwheels, and the windmill that lights up at night. After the renovation in November 2024, the photo spots became even more distinct, and many visitors now come from all over the country to take photos.
Recommended visit time: Arrive 30 to 60 minutes before sunset → enjoy the daytime view → take sunset photos → enjoy the night view
