Think about the moment you open a wardrobe door. Even in that brief instant when you choose what to wear, we imagine something. "A Wardrobe of Imagination," held at the newly opened My Art Museum One Grove branch in Magok, is a fashion exhibition that looks into that very "moment when clothing begins." What impressed me most was that it does not just show finished, glamorous dresses; instead, it leads you through the process of how designers drew inspiration from a single flower or a folded sheet of paper. Based on the fashion archive that Eland Museum has collected for nearly 30 years, you can see original outfits by 20 world-renowned designers all in one place, including Alexander McQueen, Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Martin Margiela, Issey Miyake, and Valentino Garavani. The exhibition runs from April 24 to August 23, 2026.
From Flowers to Space, 8 Rooms Following the Starting Point of Inspiration
The exhibition space is divided into eight keywords: Flower, Heart, Food, Origami, Object, Art, Space, and Imagination. Each room explores where designers draw their ideas from, and I kept finding myself focusing less on the clothes themselves and more on the question of why these clothes came to be. In the food corner, for example, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac's "Pasta Collection" was on display, and it was fascinating to see clothing that really began with noodles. At the end of the exhibition route, works by Alexander McQueen, often called the "designer's designer," are placed like the highlight of the show, so when you leave after seeing everything, it feels as if you've read an entire story.

For Foreign Travelers: From Booking to Entry, and Then a Magok Walk
The first thing to arrange is the ticket. On-site purchase is possible, but weekends and docent time slots get crowded, so online booking is recommended. The regular price is around 20,000 won for adults, and there are often discounted tickets on platforms such as NOL Ticket, Naver, and Kakao, so searching in advance can save you almost half. If you complete payment through online booking, card payments and simple payments are both available, so there was no need to carry cash separately.
The directions are not difficult. The exhibition is located inside the One Grove complex at 165 Gonghang-daero, Magok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul. The Magok area is served by Subway Lines 5 and 9, as well as the Airport Railroad, so coming in from Incheon Airport via the Airport Railroad is especially convenient. Once you get off the train and enter the complex, restaurants and cafes are gathered together, making it easy to grab lunch or coffee after the exhibition. English guidance is not especially extensive, but since the exhibition is visually focused on clothes and inspiration, it was still easy to enjoy even without reading every explanation. Korean docent tours are also offered, and I recommend checking the exact times on the booking page and planning accordingly.

Things to Know Before You Go
Since this is an indoor exhibition, weather has little effect, but if you visit in summer, you may get tired from the heat while traveling to Magok, so it is a good idea to bring a bottle of water. Comfortable clothes are enough, and since you will walk quite a bit moving between rooms, wear light shoes. There are many photo-friendly spots, so make sure your camera or phone battery is well charged. Because the exhibition is inside a complex, access to restrooms, lounge areas, and food and beverage stores is good.
- Tickets: On-site purchase is possible, but online booking is better for discounts and avoiding lines
- Admission: Regular adult price is around 20,000 won, with lower online discounted prices available
- Docent: Korean guided tours are available; check the times on the booking page
- What to bring: Comfortable shoes, a charged phone, and water in summer
Who I Would Recommend It To
If you are interested in fashion or design, and especially if you enjoy stories about the process of making something rather than just the finished result, this is definitely an exhibition you will enjoy. Just being able to encounter the clothing of masters you might otherwise only see abroad, right in the middle of Seoul, is reason enough to visit. The trip to Magok may feel a little far, but once you move through the rooms one by one as if opening a wardrobe door, you will not regret the time spent getting there.
