Two Summer Days When Jiseopohang Becomes a Giant Water Playground
At the eastern tip of Geoje, when you stand at Jiseopohang, seawater flows gently into the inside of the breakwater. Every year, around the end of July, the waterfront park and the Geoje Marine Leisure Sports Center area are filled with the sounds of water guns and water cannons, and that is the
Just looking at the program names tells you what kind of festival this is. The daytime is filled with the Water Festa and Speed Challenge, where water guns and water cannons pour everywhere, the Paper Boat Shipyard Contest, where you make paper boats yourself, launch them for real, and race them, and marine sports experiences such as yacht, kayak, paddleboard, and dinghy yacht rides. When the sun sets, the atmosphere rises sharply with "Ocean Night," where a DJ sprays water while hosting, along with celebratory performances and Waterbomb. On the 2026 stage, names such as Park Seo-jin, Koyote, Mirani, and tripleS appeared. From trot to K-pop and EDM, the lineup is designed so that generations do not overlap, making it a format where the whole family can each catch at least one stage they like.

A Foreign Traveler's Day: From Arrival at Jiseopohang to the Night Stage
First, the most important thing. This festival is free to attend. You can come and go in the waterfront park without a separate admission ticket, so there is no need to worry much about advance reservations. However, some programs such as the Water World and marine sports experiences may require on-site registration or may involve waiting, so if water play is your main goal, I recommend arriving in the morning and securing your spot first. For the Waterbomb-style stage, competition for the front row gets fierce as evening approaches.
Geoje is an island, but it is connected to the mainland by bridges. However, Jiseopo is not a place with dense public transportation, so the practical way to get to Jiseopohang is to come by intercity bus from Busan or Tongyeong to Geoje (Gohyeon or Jangseungpo), then take a city bus or taxi. A rental car is the most convenient, but during the festival period there may be road restrictions and parking shortages around the venue, so it is better to check parking locations in advance and leave a little early. If you plan to stay until the night performance ends, it is more comfortable to book lodging nearby. In popular years, nearby accommodations were fully booked early.
There is no need to think too hard about what to wear: clothes that can get wet. Bring something to throw over your swimsuit or rash guard, aqua shoes or slippers, a spare set of clothes, and a large towel. Since it is a harbor in midsummer, the sun is very strong, so bring waterproof sunscreen and a hat. I strongly recommend putting your phone in a waterproof pouch. Water sprays can come out of nowhere. Payment is handled at food booths such as the Food Festa and the local coexistence play zone, but due to the nature of local festivals, some booths may accept cards while others may take cash only. If you prepare a little cash, you will not be flustered at the front of the line.

The English guidance is not plentiful, but here is how to enjoy it anyway
Honestly, this festival is aimed more at local residents and domestic travelers than at foreign tourists. So it is hard to say that there are abundant English signs or interpretation services. But the good news is that you do not need language very often, because the event is centered on water play and music performances. You do not need interpretation to run around in front of the stage with a water gun and get soaked. Programs like paper boat making or kayak experiences that require the host's explanation can still be followed well enough with observation and gestures, and the people around you are generally friendly and willing to help.
For maps, Naver Map or KakaoMap is more accurate than Google Maps in Korea, so download one in advance. Around Jiseopohang, nearby sights include Jiseoposeong, the ferry dock for Jisimdo, and Gujora Beach, so if you combine the festival during the day with the nearby sea in the late afternoon, you can make the most of your day.
Things to know in advance to avoid wasted trips
- Weather variable: This festival was canceled in 2025 due to damage from heavy rain. The southern coast in summer is greatly affected by the monsoon and typhoons, so be sure to check the latest event status and schedule through the official channels before you depart.
- Crowded times: For daytime water play, the morning is more relaxed, while the evening main performance and Waterbomb get very competitive for the front row. Decide when to arrive based on what you want most.
- Return route: If you stay until the night performance ends, public transportation may stop running. Taxi requests also surge at that time, so it is safer to prepare a rental car or nearby lodging in advance.
- What to bring: Spare clothes, a towel, a waterproof pouch, aqua shoes, a little cash, and sunscreen. Since you will be walking around in wet clothes, also plan where to change and where to store your belongings.
If you like getting soaked while having fun and want to enjoy K-pop and trot stages all at once, this festival can be a great day on a summer Geoje trip for families or groups of friends. If you want quiet healing instead, you can enjoy only the morning water play and head off to a nearby beach. I recommend grabbing a water gun and getting completely soaked at Jiseopohang.
