To the Nakdong Riverside with water guns: the height of summer in Dalseong, Daegu
Daegu in July is famous as one of the hottest places in the country. That is why the city went all in with a "let's get splashed and have fun" event: the youth festival Dalseong Water Splash. It was the first water festival held by a local government in the Daegu area last year, and because the response was so good, the second edition in 2026 will be held at Gangjeong Goryeongbo The Arc Plaza, where the Nakdong River and Geumho River meet. The subtitle is "Daily LOGOUT, Dalseong Splash TIME!" and if you actually go there, it is exactly that. It is basically a summer festival in a Waterbomb style, where a DJ and singers on stage shoot water cannons while thousands of people fire back with water guns.
What I like about it is that this is not just a water fight, but a festival created directly by young people. The main stage lineup includes names like Chungha, Zion.T, Nucksal, Kim Hwan, and DJ Subin, and the stage is also filled by Daegu youth artists such as Keimyung University's theater-musical department, the Bisa cheering squad, and local street dance teams. More often than not, people go to see famous singers and end up even more impressed by the performances of local young artists.

Be sure to get your ticket first — it is free, but reservation is required
The first thing to know: this festival is free for anyone aged 13 and older, but you cannot simply walk in; you must secure a seat through online advance booking. All seats are standing, and the area is divided into zones. ZONE 1 is for Dalseong County residents only (the county residents zone), so it does not apply to foreign travelers, and you should aim for the free zones (such as ZONE 2 and 4), which anyone can reserve regardless of region. The free zones are limited advance reservations in the hundreds of seats, so they tend to sell out as soon as bookings open, and it is best to log in early on the opening day.
Booking a ticket is not the end. After reserving online, you must exchange it on site for a physical wristband ticket in order to enter. The ticket booth opens in the early afternoon, and the main performance starts at 5:00 p.m. If you reserved two tickets, both people must go together to receive the wristbands, so make sure to coordinate time and place with your group. You will need an ID for age verification at entry (a passport for foreigners), and children aged 12 and under are restricted from entering the free zones, so be sure to check the age requirements before booking.
- Free, but the free zones require online advance reservation — limited quantity, so watch out for early sellouts
- Online reservation -> exchange for a wristband ticket on site for entry
- Bring a passport or other ID for age verification (all seats are standing)
- Water gun, extra clothes, waterproof pouch (for your phone), slippers, or shoes that can get wet
If you are going on foot, prepare for the transport challenge and the trip home
Honestly, Gangjeong Goryeongbo The Arc Plaza has amazing scenery, but it is not very convenient by public transportation. Daesil Station or Gangchang Station on Daegu Metro Line 2 are the closest stations, but the walk from the station to the plaza is quite far, so taking a taxi from Daesil Station for about 5 minutes is the realistic option. Buses such as Seongseo 2 pass in front of The Arc, but the intervals are long, so if you do not time it well, you may end up waiting a long time. Temporary shuttles or traffic guidance may be announced separately on festival day, so check the official channels before you leave.
If you come by car, there are three parking lots at The Arc, so under normal conditions there is plenty of space, but on summer peak-season weekends they can be full by the afternoon. On festival day, of course, it is even worse. That is why I always say you should plan your way back in advance. Since the performances continue into the evening, taxi competition becomes fierce near the end. It is more comfortable to install an app like Kakao T in advance or make the basic plan to go back to Daesil Station with your group and take the subway.

How to make the most of it on site — youth market, food trucks, and water play
The festival site is not just about performances. Around the plaza, there is a youth market run by local young entrepreneurs, and browsing handmade goods, accessories, clothing, and aroma products is part of the fun. You can also walk around the face-painting experience booth and the Dalseong Youth Innovation Center event booth. If you get hungry, grab coffee and snacks from food trucks operated by local young people. Most places accept cards and mobile payments, but some small market stalls or food trucks may only take cash, so bringing a bit of cash in small bills will save you from trouble.
This is not a festival with extensive English guidance. But a water festival does not really require language, does it? When the water starts spraying from the stage, you just shoot back with your water gun and go with the music, so you can still enjoy it easily by reading the atmosphere. Since it is an outdoor event in midsummer, bring a hat and sunscreen for the sun and heat, and because you will get completely soaked, extra clothes and a waterproof pouch for your phone are essential. Restrooms and other facilities are located near the The Arc building, so it is a good idea to check the location in advance.
In short, this festival is perfect for travelers in their 20s and 30s who want to enjoy a K-pop stage and water play at the same time, as well as anyone who wants to experience Daegu's true local summer. As you aim your water gun at strangers in the heat, Daegu will somehow feel much closer to you.
