Best Time to Visit

Mallipo Beach is best visited from late spring to early autumn, but if you want to enjoy the sea most comfortably, June through early September is especially ideal. Because the water is relatively shallow and the waves are generally calm, it is a good fit for families.

Within the day, early morning or around sunset is recommended. The sunlight is less intense than at midday, and the beach feels more comfortable. If you prefer a quieter atmosphere, morning or late afternoon is a good choice.

Weekdays are best. On weekends and during holiday periods, visitor numbers rise sharply and the area tends to be crowded, especially around midday. If you want a more relaxed experience, choose a weekday morning or late afternoon.

How Long to Stay

If you are only enjoying a beach walk and the sea view, 1 to 2 hours is enough. A typical visit that includes a cafe stop or a meal is about 2 to 4 hours. If you want to combine it with a nearby fish market or a drive around the Taean area, setting aside half a day to a full day is practical.

How to Get There

Rather than going directly from Seoul, the easiest way to reach Mallipo Beach is to travel via Taean. For foreign travelers, it is convenient to use Taean Terminal as the reference point.

Subway

There is no subway that goes directly to Mallipo Beach. First, take the Seoul subway to the departure point for express or intercity buses, then use a bus bound for Taean. In Seoul, it is common to head to Express Bus Terminal Station or the Central City Terminal area. Since you may need to move inside the terminal, it is a good idea to check the station exit number together with the on-site signs.

Bus

From Taean Terminal to Mallipo Beach, take a local bus; the trip takes about 25 to 30 minutes.

  • Departure: Taean Terminal platform 11
  • Direction: Sowon-bound
  • Get off: Mallipo Beach stop

Bus schedules may change, so at the terminal, check again for the bus to Mallipo Beach or for platform 11, Sowon-bound.

Walking

After getting off at the Mallipo Beach stop, you can walk to the beach. Just follow the signs around the stop toward the beach. If you do not have much luggage, the distance is not difficult.

Practical tip: Whether local buses accept cash or transit cards may vary by region, so having small amounts of cash ready can be more convenient.

Photo Spots

  • Entrance to Muddak Island at the far right end of the beach: Move to the far right end of Mallipo Beach, where you will find the starting point leading to Muddak Island. If you frame the shot facing the sea and the pedestrian bridge, you can capture the path connected to the coast. Just before or after sunset is the best time.
  • Middle of the sea pedestrian bridge: Stand near the middle of the 180 m sea pedestrian bridge leading to Muddak Island and take your photo. Facing toward the beach, you can include both the path over the sea and the coastline in one frame. Late afternoon to sunset offers soft light and the most beautiful photos.
  • Entrance to the forest trail on Muddak Island: The key spot is the beginning of the 155 m forest trail that continues after crossing the pedestrian bridge. If you shoot toward the inside of the forest path, the atmosphere of the wooden trail comes through well. Morning or near sunset is ideal.
  • Flower spot on the autumn walking trail: In autumn, silver grass, chrysanthemums, and other fall flowers bloom along the walking trail and throughout the forest, making it great for photos. Try shooting from a low angle so that the flowers and the trail are visible together. Morning or late afternoon gives soft natural light.

Night View

The biggest attraction of Mallipo Beach at night is the combination of ocean views and lighting effects. In particular, when you go up to the Mallipo Observatory Tower, you can take in the wide beach and the sea at a glance, and at night the color-changing lights add an even more dazzling atmosphere.

At night, you can enjoy a laser show and scenic lighting, offering more to see than a simple beach walk. After visiting the observatory, we also recommend walking down to the coast and strolling along the illuminated waterline.

The recommended time is from just after sunset until around 9 p.m. While a little light still remains in the sky, the sea scenery and the lights are both at their best; once it is fully dark, the laser show and night lighting appear even clearer.

At night, the atmosphere is relatively romantic and cool, making it a good fit for couples, families, and travelers who want to take photos. However, the laser show and lighting hours may change depending on conditions, so it is best to check on the day of your visit.

Seasonal Guide

Mallipo Beach is a place where the atmosphere changes distinctly with each season. It is even better if you enjoy the beach scenery together with the nearby Cheonripo Arboretum.

Spring

Spring is a good time for walking as flowers begin to bloom. After enjoying spring flowers and the fresh gardens at the nearby Cheonripo Arboretum, it is nice to take a leisurely walk along the pine forest and white sand beach of Mallipo Beach. During cherry blossom season, the surrounding roads and garden scenery are especially beautiful.

Summer

Summer is the most popular season at Mallipo Beach. The wide white sand beach stretching about 3 km, the relatively gentle water depth, and the cool pine forest make it ideal for swimming and beach relaxation. Swimming, beach walks, and sunset viewing are the main activities, and themed walking trails such as Hydrangea Road and Solbaram-gil are also worth exploring.

Autumn

In autumn, the beach area and the arboretum turn vibrant with fall colors, creating a calm and scenic atmosphere. It is quieter than in summer, which makes it great for walking and photography, and the cool weather is comfortable for long walks by the sea.

Winter

In winter, it is a good place to enjoy a quiet sea view. The crisp air unique to the cold season and the peaceful beach are appealing, and if there is a winter light event operated at nearby gardens or tourist spots, it is worth visiting as well. The wind can be strong, so bring warm clothing.

Travel Tips

The beach, Cheonripo Arboretum, Cheonripo Beach, and Baengripo Beach are close to one another, so they are good to visit together. During the busy summer season, there are many visitors, so an early visit is convenient.

Local Tips

After enjoying the beach, also stop by Mallipo Observatory, which is a 3-minute drive away.

On navigation, search for 'Mallipo Beach Observatory'.

Mallipo Beach is a famous attraction known as the 4th scenic view among the 8 scenic views of Taean.

The beach has a white sand stretch of about 3 km in length and 100 m in width, making it a good place for a light coastal walk.
