A Sejong Village Enterprise Started by Five Farms in Ssangnyuri

Ssangnyu Grape Garden Cooperative is a village enterprise in Sejong Special Self-Governing City. The cooperative was formed mainly by the grape-tree garden rural experience center and fruit farms in Ssangnyuri, Yeonseo-myeon, Sejong, with sources introducing its contributing members as 11 people from five farms.

A Korea Tourism Organization travel article introduces the cooperative as having 14 members. Most are neighboring residents living in Ssangnyuri and Yeonseo-myeon, while several are women in Sejong City whose careers have been interrupted. About five key members, including representative Kim Gyeong-suk, guide visitors and run the programs.

A 200 m Grapevine Tunnel Planted in 2015

The grapevine tunnel, the main feature of the present site, began with its planning and the planting of saplings in 2015. According to a Korea Tourism Organization travel article, the tunnel is more than 3 m high at its tallest point and stretches for 200 m.

Several picnic tables and huts with triangular roofs are placed inside the tunnel. Therefore, this is not simply a place to look around a vineyard; it is best used as a rural experience center where visitors can walk through the tunnel, relax, and continue with hands-on activities.

An Experience Center Where Grapes Ripen in August and September

August and September are introduced as the grape-ripening season. Grape tasting, grape packing, and farm tour programs are listed at 20,000 won, while the autumn wild-grape picking experience is offered from September to October for 15,000 won.

Because the grapevines are tall, visitors may need to use ladders during harvesting. If children are joining, supervise ladder use closely. Rather than visiting with only harvesting in mind, confirm during the reservation process whether the program includes packing and a farm tour.

Programs That Change with Spring, Summer, and Winter

Spring activities include making azalea flower pancakes, strawberry muffins, fried acacia blossoms, and potato pancakes. In summer, visitors can pick blueberries, plums, and grapes, harvest vegetables, play in the water, and make fruit bingsu. The garden also has a swimming pool equipped with swings.

In autumn, activities include picking wild grapes, digging up sweet potatoes, and making grape jam. In winter, visitors make roasted sweet potatoes and red-bean porridge. Making grape soap, making tofu, and experiencing grape-aging barbecue are introduced as programs available year-round.

Reserve for Two or More and Choose Fees by Program

Reservations are required before visiting, and experiences can be booked for two or more people. No separate general admission fee has been confirmed; instead, fees are listed by program. It is therefore safer to select the experience you want and reserve by phone rather than simply expecting on-site admission.

  • Grape tasting + grape packing + farm tour: 20,000 won
  • Grape vin chaud: 30,000 won; reserve 3–4 days in advance, minimum 8 people, available from September
  • Wild-grape picking experience: September–October, 15,000 won
  • Make-your-own grape vin chaud: year-round, 20,000 won
  • Barbecue experience: 25,000 won

Grape vin chaud is made by boiling fruit and spices in grape wine or grape juice. At Ssangnyu Grape Garden, a small amount of lemon syrup and ginger syrup is added. The vin chaud kit is introduced as including wine, glasses, dried fruit, and spices.

Operating Hours Are Listed Differently as 10:00–17:00 and 10:00–21:00

Tourism information updated on June 26, 2025, lists operating hours as 10:00–17:00, with preparation time from 12:00 to 14:00. In contrast, a Korea Tourism Organization travel article lists hours of 10:00–21:00, with a break from 12:00 to 14:00, so the operating hours differ between sources.

The closing day information also does not match. One notice lists every Sunday and the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays, while another introduction lists Mondays as the regular closing day. The main contact number is 044-867-0050, the additional contact number is 010-8374-0191, and the email address [email protected] is also provided. When making a reservation by phone, confirm the visit date, time, and availability of the desired experience.

Plan a Full-Day Visit, but Exclude the Grape Table Meal for Now

A Korea Tourism Organization travel article recommends choosing two or three activities and taking breaks in a thatched pavilion or wooden platform while eating a packed lunch or snacks, making it suitable for a full-day itinerary. Visitor reviews also say it is a good place to spend a day with children experiencing activities and playing. Some reviews note that the summer heat can be exhausting, so an itinerary with less midday activity is advisable.

Grape-leaf dolma was selected as an experience program through a Tourism Dure pilot test, but the grape table meal program is currently listed as unavailable. The former official website, https://grapevillage.modoo.at, is no longer operating as of June 26, 2025, because Naver's modoo! service has ended. Reservations must therefore be made by phone or email rather than through the website.
