90 Minutes at Seopjikoji, the Volcanic Cape Facing Seongsan Ilchulbong

Seopjikoji is a cape formed along the coast of Goseong-ri in Seongsan-eup, where you can encounter black volcanic rock, grassland, and a lighthouse within a short walking route. Although it is free to enter, it is best to allow 60 to 90 minutes, taking the wind, sunlight, and parking congestion into account.

Clues to the ‘Seondol Tuff Cone’ Remaining at the End of Seongsan Peninsula

Seopjikoji is a cape on the coast of Goseong-ri, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. ‘Koji’ means cape in the Jeju language, directly reflecting the name of a landform that projects toward the sea. The reference address is 107 Seopjikoji-ro, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, and there is no admission fee.

This is not simply a coastal walking area but a place where visitors can read the complex volcanic formation process. Nearby Seondol Rock is interpreted as a remnant of the eruptive dike that formed the Seondol tuff cone, and a stone altar approximately 4 m high and about 9 m on each side also remains. The altar has been designated as a Jeju Special Self-Governing Province monument.

A 60–90-Minute Route with Views as Far as the Sea Opposite Seongsan Ilchulbong

For a first visit, the simplest option is to enter from the parking area toward the coast, walk along the grassland and shoreline, and make a round trip to the high point with the lighthouse. Excluding photography and breaks, about 60 minutes is sufficient; allowing time to slowly view Seondol Rock and the coast, around 90 minutes is appropriate.

Seongsan Ilchulbong is on the nearby eastern coast, making it easy to combine with Seopjikoji on the same day. However, Seopjikoji is a cape for observing the landscape while experiencing the sea breeze, not a place for going down to play on the beach, so it is better to prepare slip-resistant walking shoes and a windbreaker first.

Even with Free Admission, Do Not Mistake It for Being ‘Open at All Times’

The outdoor area of Seopjikoji is a tourist destination with free admission and no separately announced regular closing days. However, coastal access or sections of the route may be restricted during weather advisories such as typhoons, strong winds, or heavy rain, so it is safest to check Jeju’s disaster and weather announcements on the day of departure.

The official tourism information page is Visit Jeju, and general tourist inquiries can be made through the Jeju Tourism Information Center at 064-740-6000. No separate phone number for an independent ticket office or regular operating hours for Seopjikoji itself have been confirmed, so rather than planning a nighttime visit, it is safer to walk during daylight hours.

Why the Walk After Sinyang-ri Entrance Stop Is Long, and the Roles of Rental Cars and Taxis

Direct public transportation connecting right to Seopjikoji is limited, and even from Sinyang-ri Entrance, known as the closest stop, there is still some distance to the site. If you have luggage or are traveling around sunset, it is practical to connect to a taxi from Seongsan Transfer Stop or the Seongsan Port area.

Rental car users can enter ‘Seopjikoji Parking Lot’ or ‘107 Seopjikoji-ro’ into their navigation system. Parking spaces are available around the site, but during periods when visitor demand for Seongsan Ilchulbong, Aqua Planet Jeju, and Phoenix Jeju overlaps, you should allow for the possibility of waiting. No official fixed parking fee information has been confirmed.

Distinguishing What Remains from the Sets That Disappeared After the Drama ‘All In’

Seopjikoji became widely known as a filming location for the 2003 television drama ‘All In.’ The set was damaged by Typhoon Maemi, and the related facilities have changed since then, so it is better to make the coastal landforms and grassland themselves the destination rather than expecting the drama set to remain intact.

Large tourism and accommodation facilities such as Aqua Planet Jeju and Phoenix Jeju are currently located nearby. Travelers who want to see only the natural landscape will find it more efficient to separate Seopjikoji from their indoor facility schedule, visit in the morning or two hours before sunset, and connect it with Seongsan Ilchulbong and Sinyang Beach.

What to Prepare Before the Spring Canola Flowers: Strong Winds, UV Rays, and Uneven Paths

Seopjikoji has little tree shade and many exposed coastal sections. Regardless of the season, prepare a hat, sunscreen, and water; on windy days, it is also advisable to bring a hat strap or windbreaker. Photo equipment may shake in the wind, so take particular care when using a tripod.

The main entrance is relatively easy to access, but as you approach the tip of the cape and the high viewpoints, there may be paths combining unpaved surfaces, slopes, and stones. Wheelchair and stroller users should safely limit access mainly to the flat areas around the parking lot; the entire coastal trail should not be considered uniformly barrier-free.

The Practical Meaning of ‘Wind’ and ‘Parking Lot,’ Repeated in Reviews

Visitor reviews published in 2025 repeatedly cite the views toward Seongsan Ilchulbong, the combination of the lighthouse and grassland, and the visibility near the summit as advantages. They also mention the limited shade, strong winds, and the possibility that parking may be inconvenient during peak season.

Therefore, late afternoon, when the sunlight becomes milder, may be worth considering; however, if your transportation home is by bus, check the last bus and the time required to reach the stop first. On windy days, a short round-trip route of around 60 minutes may be more suitable than prolonged photography.
