Walking Along the Terrain of Seojungcheon Valley and the Rocky Ground on the Meochewat Forest Trail
The Meochewat Forest Trail is a fee-based forest path connecting the pasturelands, stone walls, hinoki and cedar forests, and Seojungcheon Valley in Hannam-ri, Namwon-eup, Seogwipo. The 6.7 km main route and the 6.3 km Sorongkot Trail each take around two and a half hours, so it is best to set out with plenty of time before closing.

The Starting Point of the Hannam-ri Stone Fields Revealed by ‘Meoche’ and ‘Wat’
The name Meochewat Forest Trail comes from the Jeju language. ‘Meoche’ refers to a place where rocks are piled up and scrub grows thickly, while ‘wat’ means a field. In other words, the rocky fields and scrubland terrain of this area remain reflected in the trail’s name, and the entrance is located at 755 Seoseong-ro, Namwon-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.
The trail begins in a pasture meadow and continues through an old stone-wall path, a bamboo grove, a wildflower path, groves of joroknamu and hinoki cypress, and the forest tunnel of Seojungcheon Stream. The Jeju Tourism Organization selected this site for the nature and forest healing category of the 2024 Jeju Wellness Tourism destinations.

Choosing Your Time First: The 6.7 km Meochewat Forest Trail and 6.3 km Sorongkot Trail
The main Meochewat Forest Trail course is approximately 6.7 km long, with an estimated duration of about 2 hours and 35 minutes. Official tourism information divides the entire forest trail into three courses: Meochewat Forest Trail, Sorongkot Trail, and the Seojungcheon Stream Trail. The Seojungcheon Stream Trail is listed as taking approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes.
The Sorongkot Trail is described as approximately 6.3 km long and taking about 2 hours and 40 minutes. In the cedar forest section, the remains of an old house site at Meochettgol, where residents lived 40–50 years ago, can still be found. If you would rather take a short look at the valley section than go on a long walk, the Seojungcheon Stream Trail is a practical choice.
- Main course: 6.7 km, approximately 2 hours 35 minutes
- Sorongkot Trail: 6.3 km, approximately 2 hours 40 minutes
- Seojungcheon Stream Trail: approximately 1 hour 40 minutes
- Information for all courses: approximately 13 km, 2–3 hours per course

Opening at 08:30 and Seasonal Closing Times: Why a Late Start Is Difficult
Meochewat Forest Trail is listed as open year-round. From March through October, it operates from 08:30 to 18:00, and from November through February, from 08:30 to 17:30. Admission is free, but if you choose a course lasting more than two hours, you need to count backward from the closing time.
For example, to finish the 2-hour-35-minute main course by the summer closing time of 18:00, you should begin walking no later than 15:25. After rain, dirt paths and areas around the valley may be slippery, so it is better to prepare running shoes or trekking shoes with good traction.

Points Easy to Miss at the Seojungcheon Forest Tunnel and Jebangnamgiwon Shelter
The main course starts at a stone-wall path and continues through a bamboo grove and hinoki forest to the Seojungcheon forest tunnel. At the Jebangnamgiwon shelter and observatory along the trail, telescopes for viewing the village are provided, so there are clear places to pause rather than simply walking through the forest and turning back immediately.
Visitor reviews repeatedly praise the area for being quiet because it is not crowded, while also noting that you should pay closer attention to trail signs on cloudy days or when walking alone. A phone battery, water, and simple snacks are best considered essential supplies for courses lasting more than two hours.
18-Seat Hinoki Foot Bath and 11:00·14:00 Picnic: Experiences Requiring Reservations
Experiences other than walking operate separately. The Café Meochewat hinoki foot-bath experience lasts approximately 30 minutes, and a foot bath and medicinal tea set costs 12,000 won. Indoors, there are 18 seats in total: a wet foot bath for 1–15 people and a dry foot bath for 1–3 people. The outdoor foot bath is available for groups of at least 10 and up to 36 people.
The picnic program operates at 11:00 and 14:00 and costs 30,000 won. It includes a mat, cushion, rattan basket, medicinal-tea egg sandwich, one beverage, steamed brown-rice puffed snack, and a foot-bath experience after the picnic. Advance reservations are required for the guided forest trek, which lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes and costs 100,000 won for up to 10 people.
Rental-Car Route Starting from the Parking Lot at 755 Seoseong-ro
The address is 755 Seoseong-ro, Namwon-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, and the main contact number is 064-805-3113. For individual visitors, a rental car or taxi is the simplest way to reach the entrance, which is located on a mountain road, and parking is available on site.
For public transportation, official tourism information does not specify a particular bus stop, bus number, or walking time. Before setting out, you should check the day’s bus schedule and the stop where you will get off in a map app. Restrooms are available, but since the courses are long, it is best to use them at the entrance before starting.

Plan Your Energy Before Combining It with Mulleungari Oreum and Dongbaek Village
Jeju Dongbaek Village and Mulleungari Oreum are often mentioned as nearby destinations to combine with Meochewat Forest Trail. However, the main Meochewat course alone takes approximately 2 hours and 35 minutes. If you also plan to visit an oreum on the same day, you will need to make adjustments, such as choosing the shorter Seojungcheon Stream Trail or skipping the experience programs.
No official detailed information has been confirmed stating that the entire route can be traveled with a stroller or standard wheelchair. Visit Jeju includes an accessible-tourism tag, but because the courses include stone walls, valleys, and unpaved forest paths, visitors using mobility aids should call 064-805-3113 before visiting to ask about sections accessible that day and access to the restrooms and parking lot.

A Preview in Eight Photos of Meochewat’s Forest, Stone Walls, and Pasture Terrain
Photos on the official tourism page show the forest paths and surrounding scenery of Meochewat Forest Trail, while visitor review photos supplement them with the atmosphere of the actual walking sections. Photos should not be treated as the final basis for judging path width or ground conditions. If rain or strong winds are forecast, it is best to call ahead to confirm whether the trail is operating.
The official website is https://www.meochewat.com, and schedules for the picnic, foot-bath, and guided programs can be checked on the reservation page. No video search results were obtained because the daily search limit was exceeded, so the YouTube list has been left empty.
